Re: Superhero/Comic Based Films & Tv - Vol.2

I wonder if “I realized I didn’t have a story” means “I couldn’t figure out how to make a police commissioner’s plucky daughter who follows in the footsteps of the world’s greatest detective into a brainwashed killer ballerina who can’t get pregnant.” Nah, it's code for "Can't be inspired to w...

Re: Superhero/Comic Based Films & Tv - Vol.2

Whedon off Batgirl is somewhat vindictive for me, as I simply think that Whedon -- as a filmmaker -- is uninspiring and somewhat lazy. I read his awful Wonder Woman script that was rejected back in 2006. We don't need any of that in a Batgirl movie.

Re: Nier: Automata

Started the 3rd... “play-through”? (This is gonna be a very loosely-used term here.) Holy crap, guys. This is fantastic. I need to take a break from playing for a while and simply digest what just happened. I’ll post more about it tomorrow. I love this game. If there ever was any credence to the des...

Re: Nier: Automata

Double post, but I can't express enough how important to the world building is Emil side quest. Take a walktgrough if you must, preferably non spoiling one. And to complete it you MUST do it before 2B and 9S separate. That is before the giant sea machine boss. Can't do it. Not on the second play th...

Re: Controversial Anime Opinions

I'm not talking about lip sync, but rather dialogue rhythm. I generally don't care if the voice doesn't match the lip animation perfectly. But I do care if the natural cadence of the sentence is being compromised in order to make the lip sync with the animation. I can tell when an actor is intention...

Re: Controversial Anime Opinions

Do yourself a favor and never learn Japanese, since the version of Japanese spoken in most Anime sounds about as cringy/unnatural/wrong as their American counterpart. I don’t understand Japanese, and I can tell the Japanese dubs can make one cringe from time to time. My issue with the English dubs ...

Re: Nier: Automata

So, much of my first play through involved a lot of un-finished side quests. I still wasn't used to these open-world games. (Much of my contribution to this thread will have a tone of "Is this how you video game?" I apologize in advance.) I've been more thoroughly combing through and finis...

Re: Superhero/Comic Based Films & Tv - Vol.2

Well, they FEEL like they have to cram. You’re right about Marvel making most studio heads too self-conscious to do it right anymore. I will counterpoint the idea that it can’t be done, though. Logan and Deadpool prove that you can still make a “one-shot” movie and still have it please all of the cr...

Re: Superhero/Comic Based Films & Tv - Vol.2

Watching a Marvel superhero movie: “Hey, enjoy the movie. We’re really excited about what we’re dping with the characters. Tune in next time if you feel like it.” Watching a non-Marvel superhero movie: “HEY GUYS, WE’RE TOTALLY MAKING A SEQUEL TO THIS FILM. LIKE, SERIOUSLY YOU GUYS. JUST LOOK AT HOW ...

Re: Nier: Automata

Still playing through the game. The replay has you playing as 9S (the NPC side-kick character in the first play-through), and because he's a Scanner model and not a Soldier model, the gameplay is completely different. It's one of the first games I know of that actively encourages replays this much. ...

I didn't care when Rituko's cat died in NGE and I don't think they were a waste of time.

Nier: Automata

So, I started playing this game Thursday morning. I finished the game this morning (22+ hours in a weekend, I don't make good life decisions while playing video games) and it was an amazing experience. There's something like 26 endings to the whole thing, so now I'm replaying it. It's a fantastic ga...

Re: I'm scripting a film that's supposed to be revenge on American filmgoers

Every movie has already been made. There's isn't a single movie that hasn't been made at least 2 dozen times. (And those are the real original, off-the-wall films. The mainstream stuff has been made at least 200 times a decade.)

I say go for it.

Re: Superhero/Comic Based Films & Tv - Vol.2

Also, if Reeves superman movie were released TODAY. I doubt it would be any better received. The two good ones are good for their time, but haven't aged well. People expect more from their Superhero movies than they did in the 70's. You’re still lookin at it from the perspective of wealthy studios’...

Re: Superhero/Comic Based Films & Tv - Vol.2

I think Ray needs to rewatch the Schumacher Batman movies. On a loop. Until the next DC movie comes out. No post Nolan DC movie has ever lost money. They just didn’t make as much as they wanted. And yes, you can make a Superman movie on the cheap. They did it around 40 years ago (cheaper than they d...

Re: Superhero/Comic Based Films & Tv - Vol.2

Jesus Christ, guys. It's not like DC is dead or anything. It's only been 6 years since the last good DC movie, and less time has gone between The Dark Knight Rises and now than there was between Batman & Robin and Batman Begins. If The Amazing Spider-Man proved anything, it was that rushing rebo...

^ There wasn’t enough dark shadows in those movies, Chuckman. And nobody blubbered “MARTHAAAAH!!!” So clearly, you’re reading way too much into them. That’s just how movies work.
