Re: Mari Breaking the Loop?

Honestly, the biggest, in-universe strike against Sequel/Loop Theory as portrayed in that image is the fact that all of the adult characters call the Impact that turned oceans into blood “Second Impact,” which all of the characters agree happened 15 years before Eva Jo. Seeing as how this means that...

Re: Godzilla & Kaiju General!

Godzilla 1985 has one thing over the Japanese version, and that is participation from at least one member of the 1950's production. Toho wanted Ishiro Honda to direct, but since the Japanese studio system finally ended, Honda didn't feel any need to direct a film in a series he said should have ende...

Arima and Miyazawa broke the loop in Eva with Kare Kano music in Eva Jo. That is all.

Re: Mari Breaking the Loop?

I’m not against new ideas. Those ideas just need to be verified within the text, and not be contingent upon what some other future text might say. I personally am entertaining the theory that Mari is a miniaturized, self-sustaining, fully autonomous Evangelion Unit. (This is why she likes LCL so muc...

Re: Pacific Rim

^ I agree, but Hollywood seems to be on the hunt for the grimmer titles in whatever genre it's attempting to harvest. (Ghost in the Shell, Akira, Death Note, ect...) So I don't think Gundam is in as much danger of a needless American remake as Evangelion is. Also, Eva is one of the first of the gian...

Re: Superhero/Comic Based Films & Tv - Vol.2

The trailer is nothing but money shots all strung together. I have no idea what the story is, and we usually get a glimps into it this late on the game.

To be fair, 3 hours of nothing but money shots would be an improvement on MoS, BvS, and Squad Goals. Wonder Woman still might be better, though.

Re: Blade Runner franchise

Nobody told me that 2049 was gonna be the best movie all year. Everything about it is so great. By gods, it was great! While I don't agree with those who think it surpasses the original, I can actually see where they're coming from. I’ll say it is better than the original, for I have long since agre...

I feel weird to have been a part of an online forum for most of its existence. Gosh - I've been here half its life, and while not a newbie, I don't feel like part of the "old guard" either! I almost feel a part of the "Old Guard," but really the only thing that separates me from ...

Re: Pacific Rim

If studios are going to misunderstand Eva on very core principles, it's best for them to do it under the title "Pacific Rim." As Pacific Rim, it's unique and wonderful. As an Eva title, I would be somewhat upset.

Mech on mech battles. Not bad. I was kind of hoping that the sequel would be nothing but inter-continental wars with Jeagers, but that monster still looks cool.

Re: Universal Monsters shared universe films

“Bride of Frankenstein has been postponed” should be a sentence that is never uttered in film production. These are B-movie horror films. They do not require that much high-level attention and recourses.

Re: Sequel theory once again.

Well, if anyone had a chance to pull off that kind of revelation this late in the game, it’s Anno. But, conventionally speaking (both within terms of Anno’s work in particular and the overall habits of filmmakers), if NTE is all a dream then Anno probably would have hinted to Shinji’s world not even...

Re: Rebuild is shallow tangent

Well, we were just discussing NTE’s subtlety. Nobody was extolling NTE for its profundity. (Yet. It kind of takes a completed story in order to detect any profound declarations, especially when a series isn’t as episodically segmented as NGE was.)

Re: Sequel theory once again.

End of Eva aside (I disagree strongly with Archangel’s interpretation of the film), Sequel/Midquel theories are anticlimactic in NTE for a number of reasons; chief among all would be duration. “It’s all a dream” endings seem to work well in shorter stories. The longer the story, the more of a copout...

Re: Rebuild is shallow tangent

NTE’s larger budget doesn’t only give its audience more spectacular battle scenes, but it also gives audience more detailed character animation. As a result more nuanced things are conveyed through character blocking and movement than they were for the original TV series. Compare this to episodes 16...

Re: Eva's besides Unit-01: Souls or no souls?

I believe NTE Yui’s role in Unit 01 was specified as “control interface” or something like that. It was far less intimate than it was in NGE, anyway.

Re: Rebuild is shallow tangent

Regarding the fact that the New Theatrical Evangelion focuses on Shinji’s story and leaves everyone else as supporting cast memebers, I wrote in length about that here , but will only quote a portion of it in this thread. Basically, a lot of people are complaining because they have to focus more on ...
