Re: Disney's Live Action Little Mermaid.

From what I remember, redheaded Ariel wasn't original to the Hans Christian Anderson tale either. They forced their perceived "diversity" into that story by making Ariel a redhead in that film too. (And it was weird that this was considered diversity, but whatever.) Seeing as how dark-skin...

Thanks for the birthday wish! I don’t know how I ended up being 32, but I’ll take it one day at a time.

Re: Asuka isn't Justified

^ While interpretations of the show itself that involve actively shipping the characters are certainly things that exist, I think they misread how Evangelion presents human character development throughout the show. The show explicitly and blatantly piles so many psychological issues upon all of its...

Re: Your favourite phallus

The "Shamshel is a dick" thing was always a misreading of the design. Shamshel is actually a disembodied VAGINA (abdominal segment) with a uterus (thoracic segment) and oviducts (arms & whips) on top. The episode is about Shinji struggling against female authority, after all... (And y...

Re: Shin Eva - Official Social Media

I would like to say Yes but having seen how toxic being "the Number One Fan" of anything makes people I'd have to say no. Love the series and the films and they changed my life for the better. But Number One Fan in the world? That's a level I could not achieve. I'd probably be closer to a...

@Tines and Urses Arctos I didn’t understand 14-year-olds’ hormones and sex drive when I was 14, and I understand it even less now. Who in God’s Name knows why Asuka and Shinji feel the feelings they do about each other.

Re: Asuka isn't Justified

When you say "justify," are you seeking a narrative justification, or a moral justification? The TV series goes a long way into explaining why everything Asuka does is predictable for someone with her hangups, but I agree that there's no moral justification for her actions. The TV series d...

Re: Tim Miller's Terminator: Dark Fate (2019)

Exactly, most movies have flashforwards about the future, mostly showing HK's and T1's, some are about the future, and also prominently feature these "dumb" bots. But they do manage to send highly advanced alien-tech-esque scifi back to the past? When and where did those get developed? Wh...

Re: New info re: Episode 20 continuity error?

While I concur that Ep 20 has a more-than-usually obvious continuity error, I am suspicious of the idea that Khara trying to mitigate that with by simply fudging the English translation ever so slightly. It's not that I think that Khara/Anno is a paragon of truth or honesty, but rather I can't imagi...

Re: My Anxiety for Evangelion

Find a specific artistic element to admire about the show and focus on that for a while. (Cinematography, score, animation, etc.) It’ll help you to take your focus away from the visceral experience of watching the show, placing it more towards enjoying how all of these different elements come togeth...

Re: [Film] The Trailers & Upcoming Films Thread

So, one of the Wachowskis directing is a very good sign for me. Say what you will about some of their movies being bad, but they are never boring. When one of their movies doesn’t work, it fails in entirely new and exciting ways. The Wachowskis already got one miss outta their system with Jupiter As...

So, planetary corification seems unlikely if the Impact’s epicenter was only in Japan. I know there aren’t any concrete rules that we know of for this sort of thing yet, but it just seems more likely that if Seele or Nerv or whoever was planning a planetary transformation that they would have set up...

Re: The Vatican Treaty is still in effect.

I personally love how 2.22 haters were bitching about how the Vatican Treaty was “an obvious plot contrivance in order to force Mari into the story,” and now still have to deal with this piece of actual world building having real narrative integrity to the story for both Shin Eva and the series as a...

I think the real puzzling part isn’t that Paris has Eva stuffs, but rather that most of it is underground. We don’t know if they have a GeoFront yet (or even what that is in the Rebuilds), so the desicion to make it all underground is a bit weird, practically speaking. There could be a lot of narrat...
