Their last one made me swoooon. I wasn't too crazy about anything after OK Computer until they released In Rainbows. My favourite was "Jigsaw". I like Radiohead when they write with a bit more of a pop sensibility, and aren't, like, birthing space whales and fucking nebulas to the ...

No, it was made in order to make a shitload of money. I guarantee you if the story did not coincide with the most popular website on the planet, this movie would not have been made. It had nothing to do with being made "for people who love films." It just so happens that "people who ...

Allemann , some kind of apology for the whole sexual harassment thing would be appreciated before you dive back in to this particular thread. Yes, I lean towards the "nurture" explanation for gender differences but "nature vs. nurture" remains an ongoing debate. How much is natu...

I'd like to thank Dr. Nick for the super interesting post. Gives me a lot to think about. No, I think that's just specifically you being you. From this statement it sounds like you've got a mild case of anti-Asperger's or something. Well, autism spectrum disorders disproportionately ...

Kaji's idea about women and men being divided by a vast ocean (or whatever) is pretty accurate. But it isn't due to biology. Yes, there are differences between boys and girls, but there are also a lot of differences within each sex. Men are, on average, slightly better at X and Y ...

I'm not fond of "Mysterious Ways" Aww... regardless, I'm posting the video from their 1993 Sydney concert (Zoo TV, also out on DVD) which I think is the best version ever. The lyrics could be about a sexy lady, or about God, or about God as a sexy lady. It almost makes me ...

Apparently my memory is shit, hehe. ^^; I just checked some videos and... I think I watched some mixture of sub and dub episodes and... well, we don't need a big digression and the fluidity of memory.

I only listen to Nine Inch Nails when I want to feel like I'm thirteen again. I get in those moods sometimes. ^^; My favourite tracks are probably "The Ruiner" and "Closer" (yes, it's a cliche) and "March of the Pigs". I was a young bright-eyed thing bac...

Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex ... Cowboy Beopop Amen. Like GasmaskAvenger hints at, I imagine (without having conducted a survey) that most "anti-dub" people have a problem with the actors, not with the actual concept of dubbing. Probably in a few decades the English mark...

What? I mean, does Rei start off just calling him "Ikari" and then eventually she warms to him and calls him "Ikari-kun" as a term of endearment? Or does she call him "Ikari-kun" from the first day she meets him? although I can tell the emotions in a voice in a foreign...

Tines-san (hahaha san ) raises a good point. I've seen that a lot, especially when the French are referred to. And in that Rei's betrayal thread I think we have a good demonstration of what I was talking about earlier. If the End of Evangelion were a novel, it might not matter if &q...

Be back later, getting the past 6-7 years of my life back. Tired of having wasted it on this crazy crap called Eva. I know what you mean. Evangelion has a bunch of things working against it. For one, animation is assumed to be for children or "families" in North America. Also there's the crazy Christian imagery stuff. And there's the stuff Xard's talking about. Sorry, I meant to say Xard-kuunnnnnn~!! It comes abo...

I just looked at some Japanese novels (translated into English) and to me it seems like a lack of honourifics isn't really a problem. There are plenty of ways to convey meaning because it is prose. We get a lot of internal thoughts and such. Of course, I don't actually listen to dubs...

Dr. Nick , I am sort of exaggerating with the Tokyo/Manhattan thing. Little bit of an Akira live-action joke. ^_~ I'm just leaning towards one position for effect. I don't actually disagree with you. If I go and pull out the oldest Japanese history books in my library they will use European...

In some cases I feel the dubs should actually have the English actors adding "-kun" and "-san" to the end of names. There really aren't equivalents in the English language. It isn't like "-san" is exactly like "mister". I wouldn't go around calling...

That's a good point about the meta stuff. It's why I'm consciously trying to be less fighty. Buckets of medication helps. I'd argue that the nature of Evangelion and the "outcast" nature of the fanbase makes conversations like this super essential. I think it is part of bei...
