Re: Impact trigger disrepancy

You're quite right. Some of the things he says do seem to be true. His description of what the Human Instrumentality Project is supposed to do jives with everything Seele and Gendo have said about it, although he then leads Shinji to the conclusion that it's Gendo's doing instead of Seele's own pet...

Re: Did Asuka and Misato really hate Shinji in 3.0?

Do Asuka and Misato HATE him? No. Are they pissed at Shinji? Yes. The real question is if they have a right to. Shinji's made his mistakes and done a lot of evil shit, both by accident and not, but the trade-off is Misato's more or less been using him for the past three movies. She projected all of ...

Re: Impact trigger disrepancy

Again, that implies Kaworu had malicious intent and we know from the original series and in 3.33 he really didn't NEED Shinji's help to trigger 4th Impact. If he wanted to he could have easily done so himself by hijacking EVA-13. But he's not the focus here--I'm more concerned with his line about ma...

Re: Impact trigger disrepancy

Yes, except Kaworu clearly states he wants to undo the events of Third Impact, and is genuinely horrified when he realizes too late what removing the spears will do. He didn't want Fourth Impact to happen and killed himself to stop it. It's almost as if he'd been used and lied to by somebody else--o...

Impact trigger discrepancy

There's no way Shinji Ikari was the one who killed all those people. Okay, hear me out. In 2.22, we see (Near)Third Impact from start to finish. EVA-01 transforms, absorbs Zeruel, cracks open the Doors of Guf and then is stated by Ritsuko to be preparing to end all life on the planet. However, it la...

Re: Did anybody in NERV honestly care about Shinji as a person?

Not after he went on a rampage and threatened to destroy Nerv Headquarters in a childish rage. That was Rebuild, not the original, and that happened after NERV threw one of their pilots under the bus. Anime!Shinji didn't kill anybody but Kaworu and Kaworu begged him to do so. And honestly I'm surpr...

Just about everyone cares about Shinji, they just have other priorities and very different ways of showing it. Yes, even Gendo.

If Gendo cared he wouldn't have abandoned him in the first place, or shot down every reconnection attempt, no matter how feeble.

Did anybody in NERV honestly care about Shinji as a person?

I do wonder this, not in a shipping or sympathetic sense but just as a statement of fact. From day one Shinji was only present because they had a use for him. They're a military organization run by a grade-A bastard with no heart, that's how they function. But the rest of the series is what I wonder...

How was it that Shinji was the only person that didn't know?

Like, having read the manga and seen Rebuild, looking back I have to wonder how Shinji was the only person that didn't know Touji was the Fourth Child or Kaworu was the final angel. Everyone who met Kaworu knew from the get go something was up with him, even Rei 3, and she was almost a zombie up...

Either Tabris, due to being a really lame antagonist (would have been better off had they actually BUILT UP to him being the last angel) or probably Ireul---that one was just there so we could get some exposition about NERV's background, not that the audience was that worried about it.

Shinning isn't evil, just insane and in desperate need of help from someone who isn't evil, two-faced or as messed up as he is.
Gendo is thoroughly evil because he made him this way on purpose.

Shipping shouldn't be taken but so seriously, but you wouldn't know it from all the essays on places like tumblr. It should just be something fun- pair up two characters you like and go from there.

SEELE, definitely. This whole mess started because of what they did to Adam and later Yui.

In addition to other things, it could help prevent recklessness on the part of the (rather immature) pilots - they're less likely to do anything that might damage the EVA if it means hurting themselves in the process. Considering one of those pilots was Asuka, we all saw how that turned...

So why exactly did they design the Evas to hurt the pilots?

Was it ever explained exactly why the pilots feel pain whenever the EVA is damaged? And more importantly why they designed the things that way? I mean, that's the silliest possible way they could have designed the interface system---that's like someone building a hyper advanced truck that sm...

Why does Kaworu count as an Angel and not Rei?

They're essentially the same thing, a Seed of Life trapped in a human shell, with all the power that comes with it. So why is Rei not considered an Angel?

Was Third Impact inevitable?

I've heard this a few times from a few sources, but I've yet to understand. Was 3I doomed to happen no matter what after Adam woke up? Between SEELE, Gendo, the Angels, Rei, Kaworu, and so on there's at least a half dozen triggers in the plotline, but plot contrivances aside was the end ...

That's what I figured, but I have heard more than one person blame him for the whole mess. Not to mention apparently there is at least one continuity where Kaworu outright expresses guilt for Second Impact...which if so makes him more human than he realizes.

Should Kaworu be held responsible for Second Impact?

I've thought about this for a while now...and I can't quite answer yes or no. On the one hand, Kaworu is as much a victim of SEELE and Gendo's machinations as any of the other children. He's probably the most selfless member of the cast, in the anime at least, and literally died to s...
