Re: Gendo's silent line: new theory

One of the oldest obscenities in the book? That doesn't fit for Gendo, especially since he's not a cliche "bad guy" at all and he's willing to praise people, albeit grudgingly (Episode 12 - "Well done, Shinji" after bringing down the Angel Sahaquiel) . He shot Ritsuko only after ...

Re: Re:

Before Contact Experiment with Eva-01 by Yui, Yui made a wedding card with an angel with blue hair. Perhaps Yui, during Contact Experiment, materialized the idea of her daughter like that, and that's why Rei was 'born' that way. I always thought of the blue-haired angel being what Yui saw herself a...

Re: Apostles?

That is a very good explanation. Thank you, LPeyrani! I can now see why Netflix and the fans acted the way they did, even if it doesn't excuse them. "Big mess" is right. This will take a long time to set right, if that ever happens. In the meantime, I expect Cannarsi's career will be negat...

Depends on how you interpret that. Eva is a work with more interpretations than you can shake a Spear of Longinus at, and you'd have to do a whole lot of shaking to keep them shippers off yer back!

Re: Stuff that you would like to see in Evangelion 3.0+1.0

Facetious stuff mixed in with more serious stuff - Shinji's eyes turn permanently red and he gets to use eyebeams from his human body Asuka's eye under her eyepatch works just fine, but it's blue and it can eyebeam people. Asuka eventually upgrades to get four glowing blue eyes and four arms. Mari a...

Re: Apostles?

You're welcome! That does sound like a complex and messy situation, and since I don't know Italian I don't know how much the dialogue director was to blame for the bad dubbing. Was the translator directed by Khara to use more literal translations of the Japanese terms? I do know that Khara is now fa...

Re: Apostles?

Interesting that this apostle/angel translation fuss came up - the Angels in the old NGE proposal were literally called "Apostolos" as a straight translation from "Shito", because the Japanese word for Angel, "Tenshi" (which is so prominent in a Cruel Angel's Thesis) do...

Re: Asuka isn't Justified

Episode 6 makes a better case for Shinji having interest in Rei than anything else does with anyone else. I'm still disappointed that that strand turned into a dead end or, at best, a deliberate twist on the "brash interloper only causes a temporary set-back" storyline, in the same way th...

Re: Asuka isn't Justified

Even outside any "shit-tests", Shinji's attitude in general would put Asuka off. Asuka was genuinely impressed by Shinji's cello playing and said so, but Shinji promptly dumped on his own abilities by saying he had no reason to do it other than "nobody told me to stop", a respons...

Re: Stuff that you would like to see in Evangelion 3.0+1.0

And since the Michiyuki or the travel segment is the concluding section of the four-part Japanese Kishotenketsu narrative structure, which Rebuild seems to follow as much as the Jo-Ha-Kyu (see this old post ) for a little more context), I think we'll see Shinji, Asuka and Rei Q traveling the wastela...

I'd like to see old Dr. Katsuragi get his real name mentioned at last, unlikely though that may be...and I hope he's named Akira! :kaos_akuma:

Re: New info re: Episode 20 continuity error?

They plain forgot about what clothes he'd been wearing, so the school uniform just ceased to exist. Had there been genuine continuity instead of a goof, his school uniform (which is what his street clothes are) would have washed out of that plug rather than the plugsuit. Perhaps Ritsuko's line shoul...

Re: New info re: Episode 20 continuity error?

Now that I think about it, the possibility that the line was written that way to cover up a goof is actually valid now, given Khara's control over the translation. Is there a Japanese speaker we know of who can vouch for the validity of the new translation?

Re: Cruel Angel's Thesis - lyrics in instrumental section solved?

@Gui - Thank you! ^_^ You've got a good point about the composing team, and I am rusty with my knowledge of NGE's production timeline so I don't know if they had the time to insert that kind of thing into the lengthened version of Cruel Angel's Thesis. Whoever's point of view it might be, if you th...

Re: New info re: Episode 20 continuity error?

Welcome to the forum, Captain Crooks, and that's quite a fascinating first post! Thank you for pointing out something very interesting, indeed. The Japanese dub hasn't changed at all, but Netflix's subtitles were done by Dan Kanemitsu, who does the in-house translation work for Studio Khara. And in ...

Re: Cruel Angel's Thesis - lyrics in instrumental section solved?

Hmm....since "Faria" does double-duty as "Would I do it?" and "Would he/she/it do it?", I'm going to give a crack at the lyrics. Given what imagery turns up during the lyrics, including Eva-01 and Yui's disappearance, I'm operating on the assumption that they're literal...

@Gui - "Setameso", eh? That sounds like a fascinating find, I'm going to listen to both Ogata's and Takahashi's recordings as soon as I can. I'm busy as all hell right now so it's going to be some time before I get back to it. Does "Sera mesmo" translate into "is it really?...

Gui, thanks again for such a thorough explanation. The idea that it could be butchered Hebrew sounds fascinating! Gui and LPeyrani, these are Yoko Takahashi's live performances of Cruel Angel's Thesis, from 2017(I think) and 2006/7(? didn't look up the exact dates) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mj...

Re: Cruel Angel's Thesis - lyrics in instrumental section solved?

Gui - I found a version with far clearer singing in that section. The lyrics I posted earlier turned out to be off-base because of all the background singing overlays. The real lyrics seem to be more or less "Faria. Se ta mesmo. Faria. Oo-sei." So I tried to get this translated again onlin...
