Re: Okay, let's try to figure out how sapient entity types work.

I would say at the end after Shinji pulled Rei out of him and everything turned blue the AATF was over hence Shinji separating from Rei. It's depicted more as a process from what I can tell. When Kaworu shows up, he asks, "Is it okay for A.T. Fields to hurt you and others once more?" -- a...

Re: Okay, let's try to figure out how sapient entity types work.

Additionally I would point out how Kaworu never once appears while the AATF is live. Why would this be other than his soul being incompatible? Kaworu appears before Gendo after Lilith spreads her AATF, and again before Shinji to enable his decision to let ATFs return (meaning, they had not returned...

Re: Okay, let's try to figure out how sapient entity types work.

Why not make an FAQ thread with links to the various threads where the common topics people are tired of were already discussed? I'm too tired to do even that. (Not mere bluster -- I don't even have the energy to work on the Eva2 translation at the moment.) But if someone else wants* to slap togeth...

Re: Okay, let's try to figure out how sapient entity types work.

You've got something of mine at the end of your post but it wasn't linked to my name or the post being responded to. I've fixed it this time, but for the future please make sure all quotes are properly attributed. You'll probably also get more answers by combing through the archives, just FYI. These...

Re: Okay, let's try to figure out how sapient entity types work.

The CI posits the Evas are a magnification of an ego and ego = ATF. Not actually what it says. Polished-up version: Evas are vessels for souls that abandoned human form -- egos magnified through embodiment as giant human beings. Possibly still off a little, but whatever the case the magnified ego (...

Re: "You know you're obsessed with NGE when" thread

Quite the opposite. If there weren't laws protecting intellectual property, people would just steal each other's ideas and not come up with new ideas of their own. Copyright laws promote creativity! I don't see how. So-called "derivative works" are no less likely to be lacking in creativi...

Re: Neon Genesis Evangelion: Digitally Re-Created VHS Subtitles

Although saying it was probably always intended to be Lilin may be a bit bold considering how much has changed from NGE to Rebuild. Can you think of a single example, between NGE and NTE, where a shared key name or term had (A) the Japanese remain the same BUT (B) the official translation or romani...

Re: The End of Evangelion: Fansub Amalgamation

The pronunciation (and nautical nomenclature) also corresponds to the English word "keel," so what indication is there that it's from German and not English? The character is pretty obviously supposed to be German (at least culturally, so he could be Austrian like his namesake Konrad Lore...

Re: Neon Genesis Evangelion: Digitally Re-Created VHS Subtitles

Also, I would've complained about Lilim/Lilin but I forgot that supplementary material and spin-off manga call the 18th Angel Lilim. Lilin, however, is the official romanization for the Rebuilds, as shown in the phony trailer for You Can (Not) Redo which was shown after You Can (Not) Advance. While...

Re: [Game] Neon Genesis Evangelion 2: Another Cases

Some stuff's been happening IRL and I haven't gotten too much done the past couple of weeks. Seems like the rest of you have been busy as well, so no real issue, I suppose. Meantime, I have grabbed some Japanese grammars plus a handbook on the Kansai dialect (*shakes fist at Toji*) and I'll keep try...

Re: Neon Genesis Evangelion: Digitally Re-Created VHS Subtitles

Typo fixed.

The ending 'wa' was in the actual script, though you're right it's omitted in the final. Fortunately it doesn't change the meaning at all.

Re: The End of Evangelion: Fansub Amalgamation

What evidence suggests Kiel is more accurate? Lorenz's first name is written in katakana as キール, the pronunciation of which corresponds to the German name "Kiel". In German, a name spelled "Keel" would be pronounced sort of like the name of a certain bitter leafy green; one woul...

Re: Neon Genesis Evangelion: Digitally Re-Created VHS Subtitles

Is Kaoru unequivocally incorrect? It's spelled "Kaworu" both(?) times it appears in the show/EoE, and is almost without exception spelled "Kaworu" when you see the romanization in any official printed materials. So: yes. But if we have anyone here who is fluent in Japanese and E...

Re: Everything is Rockin'! [RML Thread 4]

This feels a bit weird to say, but as of yesterday I am a married woman! It was a pretty untraditional marriage, done pretty much solely for the legal benefits. Neither of us give the custom any symbolic weight, and we care so little about the ceremonial aspects that we went out of our way to avoid ...

Re: So was Ritsuko REALLY off her rockers in EOE?

Between these options: (A) A supercomputer system that has, up until precisely this point, worked very mechanically and reliably decides all of a sudden to become 1/3 self-aware and override its own programming solely so that Naoko's ghost can give Ritsuko the finger and (B) Ritsuko, whose mental he...

Re: Tactical Control Room Assets

The storyboards make reference to Macs when digital assets are required, but nothing so specific as a program. Maybe look into what kinds of CAD programs were available for the Mac in the mid 90s. Sorry I can't be any more helpful than that.
