Re: One recurring complaint about EVA I've heard a lot.

The argument you seemed to be making is that because a viewer is western instead of Japanese, and because western philosophy informs their opinion in such-and-such a way on the film, any opinion they might form on the ethical or philosophical dimensions of a Japanese work is, somehow or other, just ...

we Re: Theory: Asuka is a Cyborg

It's not concept art. It's genga -- the finalized artwork, before digital inking and coloring. The colored pencil work is a guide for the digital colorist. You have to square away what Ritsuko says then with information that's provided later. Asuka's eye patch is infused with Angel-sealing hex glyph...

Re: Theory: Asuka is a Cyborg

Cybermat: Did you miss the image BlueBasilusk posted showing that Asuka's limbs are intact after the 9th Angel incident? Also note the comments on Occam's razor and the law of conservation of detail. The film already provides an implied explanation for Asuka's strength. Where amidst Asuka being abso...

Re: The most disturbing moment in Evangelion

Pwhodges , do you forget that even back in NGE, "human" was much more inclusive than "Lilin"? I'm not overplaying a thing. This stuff had always been there. Honestly surprised you waited this many years to react to the idea that Asuka's no longer traditionally human. It's been a...

Re: The most disturbing moment in Evangelion

Asuka and Mari most certainly did. Ritsuko's panicked gobbledygook lays it all out. You even see Asuka get pushed deeper into the plug. Being able to function as a Lilin doesn't mean she still is one. It feels like you have an issue with NTE's implied transhuman concepts and are fighting against wha...

Re: The most disturbing moment in Evangelion

Ritsuko establishes over and over in 2.22 that excessive plug depth turns the pilots into something else. The "curse of Eva", which Asuka has, is strongly implied to be the result of this. Asuka refers to humans as "Lilin" at the end of 3.33, which only makes sense if she isn't o...

DoTA is perpetually being misused as a crutch for intellectual laziness of the highest order, and it can bite my shiny metal ass.

"How did Asuka survive that?"

She's no longer a Lilin when it happens.

Re: One recurring complaint about EVA I've heard a lot.

Cultural considerations aren't "optional" when trying to interpret works that weren't made with your values in mind, unless you couldn't care less about the thing actually making any sense. Why bother with a Japanese work at all if the western POV is all you care about?

Re: Do people still hate Evangelion 3.33?

CT: It doesn't really take that much imagination to see why Misato and Asuka act the way they do. Fantasizing about horrible things happening to them really misses the point. HORRIBLE THINGS HAVE BEEN HAPPENING TO THEM for fourteen whole years -- and you're cross because they aren't being enthusiast...

Re: Ramiel versus Zeruel

How do you propose an entity without any limbs goes about socking Zeruel in the head? BTW, not sure if "slower and dumber" is quite what was being gone for there. Zeruel had been protected by ATF up until then, so getting punched, kicked, grinded against an elevator shaft, etc., was likely...

A sense of retribution like yours would eventually land you in prison in most countries. Just sayin'.

Re: FML general thread [8]

Ugh, that genuinely does suck. Did you not notice the problem until it was too late to save anything? Keeping a cooler around -- medium-large size is good, if you live in a tiny place like me and my bf -- is a good precaution. Something happens to the fridge (aside from a regional blackout), you can...

Huh! Somehow I managed not to notice the Angel Tower / GojiTail thing, even though I'm the one who added most of the stuff about the former to the wiki! That's really nifty. The "swerving light beam" can probably be traced back at least as far as the God Warriors from the Nausicaa ma...

Any freaking out should have been done when Di$n€¥ outlined their plans to bomb the Earth with SW films until it ceases to be sufficiently profitable. Re: FML general thread [8]

Exercising your powers of observation just a little seems like far less trouble than getting amped up and disappointed over nothing. I wonder if you don't just enjoy engaging in and then complaining about your easily avoided feats of fan-masochism. From over here, it feels far more likely than the a...

Ray, you know it's called 3.0+1.0, right? And even if it were called 4.0, it wouldn't be 4.44 until the video release.
