Re: Wait so how did Asuka die in EoE?

the manga has a longer shot where Asuka's touching her throat in panic like she's unsure that she's alive for a moment. She's holding her throat in the anime as well, but it's harder to see because everything's dark and red. Guessing the implication there is that the sync was cut at the same time Z...

Re: Will Instrumentality Occur Entirely in The "Real World" of Evangelion This Time?

I was attempting to comment on the fact that you simply write "SEELE has no intentions of changing their human form", which does not communicate what's actually going on in EoE. They don't say "change", they say "give up" or "abandon", and they also qualify it...

Re: Will Instrumentality Occur Entirely in The "Real World" of Evangelion This Time?

In EoE, Seele are very much intent on leaving their human forms behind. They just aren't doing it for the purpose of getting on an Eva-Ark; they have something different in mind.

"Asuka clinging to a rock" -- I don't think anyone actually knows what that figure is supposed to represent.

Re: Wait so how did Asuka die in EoE?

We see Asuka's arm split in half before the cut away. How in the world could she have survived not only that but what happened next? 7 more stabbings, all of which would have been transferred to Asuka. Eva-02 falls limp with the 9th spear -- was probably in the core, and neither of the Soryus are co...

Re: Is Gendo Jealous of Shinji? (and will we explicitly see it?)

"Competing with the Patriarch" would be Shinji 'competing' with Gendo, not Gendo 'competing' with Shinji as Sadamoto would have it.

Re: Is Gendo Jealous of Shinji? (and will we explicitly see it?)

Jealousy? I can't think of anything that suggests it OR denies it, so I'll go with the answer "NOT ENOUGH DATA". If it does end up being in any way true, I'm going to hope Anno is better than to go for the character-assassinating "HOW DARE MY WIFE -- WHOM I SUPPOSEDLY WORSHIP UNCONDIT...

Re: Wait so how did Spoilers die in EoE?

I've also wondered who might have patched her up during her time in Instrumentality What do you mean by this? People are just souls in Instrumentality. before being revived on shore next to Shinji. Why do you think she was "revived on shore next to Shinji"? She just... materialized out of...

Re: Shinji's View of Asuka + NGE Card Game Canon Corroboration

I won't bother to completely regurgitate everything I've already put in this image A lot of the text is quite difficult to read (eye-pain to the point I gave up), so translating the giga-image back into text and screenshots wouldn't be a bad idea. This would also make sure your post still has most ...

...huh? Maya's reaction comes right after Eva-02 is impaled with the remaining eight spears. Asuka wasn't "eaten alive". Vicariously stabbed to death, yes.

Re: Wait so how did Spoilers die in EoE?

Maya's inability to tell Shinji what happened to Eva-02 and Asuka doesn't make much sense if Asuka was still alive at the time.

Re: If Mari is british...

In the Japanese version, Mari speaks English to keep Shinji from understanding her phone call, so the idea is that, in an English language dub, she could use rhyming slang to achieve the same thing.

Re: C.T.1290 versus Asuka. Examining the good and bad.

Asking questions for other people to answer does not seem to be giving you what you're looking for, and you know what they say about doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. So, at great risk of overstepping, I'd like to suggest a couple of things, from one autistic person...

Re: If Mari is british...

My enthusiasm for the idea is quite genuine. I would love to hear a fandub, performed by a talented young lass fluent in Cockney, of the scene in question. :nyao: Really is a shame the dub dropped the ball on this. Mari having access to the full compliment of British epithets in the heat of battle w...

Re: How Evangelion Gets Away With Being Terrible

Shikinami has the visual motif of the doll that's been stitched back together, supplemented by the Bardiel infection being represented by staples... But of course this has no bearing whatsoever on Shikinami's past, since she doesn't have one. At best, it's foreshadowing for how she'll need to stitch...

The fact that she doesn't use Cockney Rhyming Slang to keep Shinji from understanding what she's saying is one of the great missed opportunities of the 21st Century.

Re: "der Verlust" - Kyoko's Motivations

I would discourage putting so much of your post content inside giant images. If it's text, can it not be text in the post itself? That way, if a host like imgur goes down, much less information is lost. "Talk about unlucky, the proponent becoming the test subject herself." The wording mean...

Re: "der Verlust" - Kyoko's Motivations

Attendee A suggests that mental breakdown due to the contact experiment was why Kyoko killed herself, then corrects himself and implies that there was more to it than just that. Next scene is Langley and Kyoko's doctor (eventually Langley's new wife) talking in the room next to where Asuka is watchi...
