Re: Shinji Post-Third Impact

Anno himself, despite his hopeful message, relapsed and fell into new depressions after EoE, so who knows what Shinji will have to experience after Instrumentality... That was after the TV series, not EoE, and it shows. Instrumentality becomes negative, and Shinji's final conclusion is much vaguer ...

Music performers

Do we have any official information on who performed the music for the original series, outside of the singers and arrangers? VGMdb lists performers for the first album, but I have no idea how accurate that information is.

Re: Why do some people not want to talk about 3.0/Q before the last movie comes out?

Because a lot of people, including myself, view 3.33 as a lot of setup with the payoff held until 3.0+1.0. Whether that setup will be good or not is another matter. It is worth remembering that the two films were meant to come out as one release, but that fell through (just like the last time they w...

Re: From Your Lips to the Author's Ears: Story Ideas

One change to Misato that I think could make for some very interesting stories: Misato knows about Instrumentality from the start, but not just that: she's for it and in on the conspiracy. This has the potential to change her relationships with Shinji and Asuka (and the rest of the cast, especially ...

Re: Flashing text (and Gerry Anderson influences)

Of course the video has already been made and uploaded so this is rather pointless, but episode 7 does bear a remarkable similarity to the Thunderbirds episode "Path of Destruction"...

Re: An Observation on the Evas

I don't mean to be a dick, but... have you ever compared Unit 01 vs Bardiel/Sachiel/Zeruel/Leliel to the MP Eva fight? Unit 01 was blindly tearing them apart, the only intent being to slaughter them to the point where they are beyond recognition, while the MP Evas not only took the time to circle a...

Re: An Observation on the Evas

I'm not quite sure what you mean by this. Yui explicitly rejects the dummy plug in episode 19, which doesn't make a whole lot of sense unless they are capable of acting as a pilot. (In other words, she accepted its control once because Shinji was present and it provided a means to protect him, but ...

Unit-00 is a thorn in the side of pretty much any theory regarding the Evas. In any case, my theory fits so well thematically with all the established maternal stuff involving the Evas that I'm extremely loath to give it up.

Re: An Observation on the Evas

...I can't really see any explanation that is simpler or better fitting with the themes of the series, let alone both Do you mean that the Eva is simply reflecting the pilot's state of mind? When an Eva goes berserk, it's not the bestial core of the Eva being freed or anything like that. It's a mot...

Re: An Observation on the Evas

Frankly, I never bought that berserk mode was the Evas' true natures coming out, or that dummy plugs actually exterted any control other than initiating it. There's a far simpler explanation that also ties in much better with the themes of the series.

It's Jikai Yokoku. Peaceful Times is the version with lyrics from 3.33.

Re: Content Submissions, Suggestions and Comments

Translating "全重連形" as "DMU type" in the Explanation of Evangelion translation is, I believe, incorrect. "全重連形" only refers, as far as I can tell, to a variation of the DD51 class. From looking at a machine translation of the Japanese Wikipedia page on the class, the dif...

Re: Shin Eva - Official Social Media

I mean, Toho and Toei, the two largest studios I. Japan, are working together for the first time. Just by that alone, the scale of Shin Eva has been bumped WAY up. To be fair, Toho and Toei are only doing distribution (and probably some cleanup/inbetweening, but that always gets contracted out to a...

Re: EoTV: An ending not of advancement, but regression?

Wait, isn't this a massive feather in the caps of those who say that Shinji accepts Instrumentality in EoTV, considering all the womb symbology involving it? There's also the matter of the "Goodbye mother" line, which is commonly interpreted (including in the Platinum booklets) as Shinji n...

Re: Flashing text (and Gerry Anderson influences)

The entire basic concept of NERV and the Human Instrumentality Commitee/SEELE is directly based on SHADO and the International Astrophysical Commission from UFO. And Gendo is certainly based on Straker in more ways than just visual design... In a case which is just visual design, NERV bridge and sec...
