Re: Eva Anatomy & Physiology: 2018 Edition

I like it as a Doyleist explanation for why Eva-02 might look that way (even if the split-soul thing was reverse-engineered from the idea of giving an Eva four eyes). Watsonian-wise, it's rather weak, IMO. First, it doesn't address Eva-02's other oddities. The simplest and thus best explanation wou...

Re: Is blood heavier than LCL?

Thanks for the clarification, I'm unsure if Lilith's womb is a portal to a cosmic womb, however. For the record, the use of the Black Moon as a womb just ties in with the motherhood and life symbolism that's a huge part of Evangelion. It's never established that Lilith has a literal biological womb...

Re: Significance of the fans surrounding Kaji and Misato?

At the risk of being that guy... is it even necessary that fans have symbolism attached to them now? The fan in Misato's room has a perfectly valid reason to be there: it's perpetual summer and really, really hot. That's why she's often in such light clothing outside of work. It gets tied in with th...

Re: Eva Anatomy & Physiology: 2018 Edition

Something actually occurred to me about the four eyes thing. When we see Unit-01 still connected to Lilith, she's featureless, and doesn't seem to become the shape we recognise until post Contact Experiment. Meanwhile, Adam's progeny show us that AT Fields can manipulate physical form beyond the ins...

Re: How do I convince my stupid friend who won't watch end of eva because of the first scene

The harder you try to force somebody to do something the more they'll push back and the more they'll resent you. I don't think this is the best path to tread down.

Also I find people who judge their friends based on perceptions of their intelligence tend to overestimate their own.

Re: Eva Anatomy & Physiology: 2018 Edition

So I feel super duper dumb for not noticing sooner, but the Evas in the Graveyard clearly have artificial spinal columns, made of the same wires that form the arms. This would kind of suggest their entire central nervous system has been gutted out for the cybernetics needed to make Synchronisation w...

Re: Post-3I Yui: Monument or Mother? Mk. II [Split]

You know, now that I think about it, this does make an increasingly amount of sense in the context of Yui's worldview. She's incredibly forward facing, with most of her dialogue relating to the future or the cosmic long term. Given how much she seems to believe in humanity as a whole, wanting to ens...

Re: Favorite crazy Evangelion theories

The soul thing, if you take the interpretation of Yui choosing which souls she took. I suppose choosing the progeny of Adam makes sense, it's super unlikely a Seed was only equipped with 14 souls after all. But I feel like this is growing into its own thing and should be splintered into another thre...

Re: Favorite crazy Evangelion theories

See I've always preferred the reading of the scenes het becoming a new Seed, and yet I see people decrying that interpretation as being fundamentally wrong, in so small part because that would mean she kept some of the souls instead of letting them return, which feels... kind of wrong.

Post-3I Yui: Monument or Mother? Mk. II [Split]

The crosses don't represent souls. The little red dots do, and those expressly fell back to Earth. What the crosses represent is the Way to God, the desire for human transcendence, as voiced by Gendo in episode 21 while a shadow cross appeared ominously behind him. In EoE, the formation of these cr...

Re: Favorite crazy Evangelion theories

3.0+1.0 will be literally a combo of Eva 3.0 and 1.0, one playing after the other. Stable time loops are cool yo. Anyway, this isn't a specific theory, but TV Tropes seems to interpret some of the scenes from NGE and End in odd ways. Notably, it interprets Asuka and Shinji on the beach at the end a...

Re: Lilith and Yui's Contact Experiment, and Related Subjects

Going back to the topic of Yui, the fact she fully merged into Unit 1 while Kyoko did not intrigues me. Yui being a voluntary case explains her end, but I wonder if she can explain anything about Kyoko having her soul divided. Is that meant to mean she was of two minds on the ordeal?

Re: The Tree of Life Significance

There are indeed still people who claim Evangelion is Christian propaganda. Those people are ridiculously wrong, but still. JHWH is generally considered otherworldly in the sense that He is an eternal entity, one without beginning and end, who is considered omniscient, omnipotent and omnipresent, an...

Re: The Tree of Life Significance

Clarke would be proud of this series for sure. That said, I definitely wouldn't call SEELE pseudo-Religious. The thing they're praising may not actually be a divine being of otherworldly origin (well, it is, but not in that sense) but they definitely act like the worst depiction of religion possible...

Re: The Tree of Life Significance

Well, the story does potray a version of heaven... Before the protagonist rejects it as an escapist illusion Which is about as un-Abrahamic as you can get. Yui's words are clearly meant to show that Heaven isn't a specific place, some promised land you have to give your life just to enter. It's a s...

Re: Some interesting details about Asuka

How is this misconception still going on. You can partly blame TV Tropes for presenting that misconception as the standard interpretation of the scene. Anyway, to actually talk about Asuka and Shinji, to me it's pretty clear how they feel about each other, but I sure wouldn't call them a healthy co...

Slightly off-topic but did is it ever stated anywhere what the NGE version of Bakelite even is? It differs way too much from the real world proto plastic to be the same stuff.

Re: The Tree of Life Significance

I think it's pretty clear from the use of religious terms and names to describe what is ostensibly Alien Biotech (the Spear being a control rod as the most obvious one) that Judeo-Christian symbols should also be interpreted in that light. Nobody actually thinks Adam and Lilith were spouses born fro...

Re: Lilith and Yui's Contact Experiment, and Related Subjects

My comment was more about the great disparity between research to artificially create the soul for the Eva body and an AI designed to substitute for the pilot, which would seem to be very different from each other. I'm more wondering how a ultimately led to b.

Re: Lilith and Yui's Contact Experiment, and Related Subjects

Wait, the Dummy Plugs are the result of trying to create artificial souls? They don't really seem to be anything of the sort given their job is to replace the pilot. Also, if the MP Eva's are anything to go by they don't even generate very strong AT Fields without the aid of an S2 Engine. And yeah, ...
