Re: What anime are you watching right now? Summer 2016 to now

I'm halfway through Box of Goblins . Very intriguing, but also quite convoluted. The characters talk A LOT* and the show is full of references to Japanese culture and language like Mushishi and Bakemonogatari, it's not particularly easy to follow. Overall it is definitely a series with lots of perso...

Re: Debate the quality of Rebuild here. [2]

I think is quite an overreach to say that somehow Misato had any real role in Shinji's decision at the end of the second rebuild movie - probably he didn't even hear her. I think that scene wants to tell you more about Misato (and highlight the cruel irony of Shinji's choice) than about what Shinji ...

@AGCT It's absolutely clear that he didn't try to drown himself at the beginning of EoE. It was sweat.

Re: Last Movie You Watched

I watched Annihilation too yesterday, really enjoyed it. I think Garland did a good work in adapting what was the first part of Vandermeer's trilogy in one coherent movie, with its own ending. The movie got progressively better - the final act is amazing - and Barrow's (Portishead) work for the soun...

Re: Will Anno Try To Top The "Hospital Room Scene"? Can Anything Be As Messed Up?

Yeah that sounds quite realistic in the context of the NTE, definitely tamer than NGE

Re: Does Sadamoto ship Shinji and Asuka?

I always got the feeling that Sadamoto never truly "got" the gist of Anno's story. I find the ending of the manga quite awful. Overall I appreciate only his artwork (often stupendous), Kaji's backstory, and the scene with Ritsuko trying to strangling Rei, quite violent and unexpected, but ...

Shinji's last words in Ep. 21

At the end of the episode Shinji sees Misato crying in the kitchen, as she just learned of Kaji's fate. It is implied that Shinji did not listen to Kaji's message, as he is showed listening to the SDAT and stopping only when he hears Misato's cry (this would open another question, when and how he kn...

Re: Introduction, Toxicity of AsuShin and other things

Or maybe Anno sees that the relation between the two has been meaningfully fleshed out in NGE+EoE, and that NTE is an occasion to try something new.
It seems more likely to me.

Re: Stuff that you would like to see in Evangelion 3.0+1.0

I'd like to experience the same feelings of fear, depression, and wonder that I felt the first time I saw the fight-less mid-part of Q, and also that sense of anything-is-possible-at-this-point present in EoE.

and after that, a 12 episode show on the events of the time skip asd

well the movies nowhere say or even imply that the Evas have a soul.

@Reichu, how do you relate your argument to Naoko's attempt to salvage Yui? Do you think Rei had already "emerged" by then?

That post on rpg.net is really good, definitely worth reading, especially for NTE detractors.

Re: Stuff that you would like to see in Evangelion 3.0+1.0

Just rewatched 2.22 and 3.33 this morning-afternoon.... From the 3.0 trailer I think I’m more curious now about Kaji (and possibly it could relate to who killed him in the tv series). Even if they show the assassination of Kaji (and even if they show the identity of his killer) I don't think this w...

Re: Anyone else feel dislike towards EoE nowadays?

The first time I watched it, EoE felt almost like a betrayal. But EoE is now an integral part of Evangelion for me too, something that elevated it from being an amazing anime series to a life-changing work of art. Without EoE there is no Evangelion. While I still appreciate it, through the years the...

Re: Official "Hello/Goodbye" Thread!

Hi everyone. I've known evegeeks for years, any time I rewatch Eva I regularly end up back here. Hoping that in 2018 it will be finally possible to watch the last Rebuild movie (and talk about it) I finally decided to join the forum. I'm European, and I've been live in East Asia since 2010. Eva real...
