Re: "I need you" - Who Said It to Who

I skimmed your post and didn't see anything disputing the facts of what I said, just statements that you personally dislike it followed by your own ideas about the phrase Do you have any explanation for why, in both instances of the phrase's appearance, it comes right before a scenario directly invo...

"I need you" - Who Said It to Who

I think I figured out who says this line to who, conclusively. In one of the earlier scripts for EoE the "I need you" title screen was placed directly before a live-action sequence depicting a world where Shinji didn't exist and Asuka had hooked up with Touji. Some people have used this as...

Re: What is the significance of characters strangling each other?

Recently I've been thinking that Shinji strangling Asuka is the act which actually signified global instrumentality's beginning. If you rewatch the scene with that in mind, the timing of 'Kom Susser Tod' is pretty conspicuous. I don't mean that the strangling was some part of the instrumentality rit...

Re: Rebuild is shallow tangent

 This is why threads like this are never a good idea. They basically exist for frothing-at-the-mouth keyboard pounding. I didn't make this thread, I commented the first post as a reply to a thread which was something like "what were your thoughts on Rebuild" and somebody moved i...

Re: Rebuild is shallow tangent

Overall, most Western audiences seem to enjoy focusing on the attractive female characters (especially the pilots) over Shinji, the actual main character to the show. It's cute that you think this is an exclusively western thing. Go on 2ch's eva board and count the number of threads about Shinji vs...

Re: Love in evangelion

To get a kiss may or may not have been her intention by falling asleep next to him; but she was asleep, this we can tell by the "momma" line and her tears' that interrupted Shinji kissing her. Recall that she also said that she was just testing him when she supposedly "revealed"...

Mr. Tines#868332 wrote:the last we heard of her was "If I have to be with you I'd rather die."

Her instrumentality scenes were full of denial.
Her final act was to respawn at his side and caress his face. These are not the actions of somebody who doesn't want to be with him.

Re: Animals and vegetables in Instrumentality?

We call it 'human instrumentality' because there's no other name for it, but that was simply the name for what SEELE wanted to bring about. It isn't actually what happened. 'Human instrumentality' stopped being the gameplan as soon as Rei took Lilith's body and gained control over the proceedings. I...

Re: [Theory] Why Angel contact with Lilith would be fatal + SEELE's version of 3I

I think the angels' plan was to to destroy Lilith's body in order to prevent humanity using it for instrumentality. They would've also needed to destroy EVA-01 since it's part of Lilith's body I guess. "A replay of Second Impact will happen if Angels contact Lilith" was just NERV's way of ...

Re: Love in evangelion

^ I think it's more accurate to say they don't know HOW to love. Or more likely, how to give love and accept the consequences from it. Humans naturally know how to love, it's just a feeling. That doesn't mean the love will be productive People place the label of 'true love' behind some goal line of...

Re: Mari Breaking the Loop?

Okay then. Give me proof that the SDAT player has any significance other than as a sentimental item for Shinji, and as a tool to escape reality. Give me proof that the rebuild films are a continuation of the series. I already talked plenty about the SDAT in previous posts. As for the idea that rebu...

Re: Mari Breaking the Loop?

The idea that Mari has tinkered with the SDAT, likely to further her goals, is very likely. I explained why thoroughly back on page 1. And it's an interesting idea which could lead to rewarding directions of thought. Good discussion of Evangelion theories happens when participants are acting as coll...

Re: Mari Breaking the Loop?

The idea that it has been modified at all is pure conjecture. And it's not even clear to me that Mari fits the definition of a spy (nor that sabotage is the job of a spy in any case). Both are so clear that I legitimately don't understand how you can fail to see them unless you're willfully denying...

Re: Mari Breaking the Loop?

You're going to have to elaborate on this. How does the SDAT have enough importance to be targeted? How is it clearly more than what it is to anybody within the story? The audience is given a pretty good idea that it's important, this is why it receives more screen time than some of the prima...

Re: Mari Breaking the Loop?

Apart from the absolutely massive coincidence of Lilith landing on Adam's planet - something she was specifically designed NOT to do. And the coincidence that, out of the c. 1095 days Gendo had to summon Shinji, he does so on the exact day that Sachiel shows up. And the coincidence that, of all the...

Re: Mari Breaking the Loop?

Another possible, much simpler explanation is that she simply damaged the SDAT by landing on it, which causes it to display different track numbers, and would explain Shinji's confusion Evangelion doesn't let silly coincidences influence important plot points. I can tell you with absolute certainty...

Re: Mari Breaking the Loop?

The tinkering clearly takes place while she has her back turned to him and is supposedly fumbling for her glasses. It's also really obvious that she tinkered with the SDAT, it's no coincidence that this scene happens and the very next frame is it transitioning to track 27 and Shinji going 'huh? That...

Re: Love in evangelion

You're right that much of the argument depends on varying definitions of what constitutes love. Personally I think unhealthy love is still love. And I think that affection for the kind of person someone is, and a desire to form a relationship which benefits that person, is the basis of what most con...
