Re: One recurring complaint about EVA I've heard a lot.

But the "classical Japanese society" in Shin Godzilla failed hard and it was the main character's "reckless" actions that led to the creation of the task force (composed by outsiders). Neon Genesis Evangelion's message too was about the realization of self worth and the possibili...

Re: One recurring complaint about EVA I've heard a lot.

What I was trying to say is that a confrontational artistic product is intrinsically bounded to be interpreted based on the culture of the viewer and it doesn't make it wrong if the author intentionally leaves it open to interpretation, more so if the author has an history of highly valuing the desi...

Re: One recurring complaint about EVA I've heard a lot.

Intellectual laziness is not considering all the possible interpretations and blindly accept your own as the only "truth". The movies themselves doesn't provide any judgment on the choice Shinji made, they only provide a punishment for its consequences, which is slightly different. The onl...

Re: One recurring complaint about EVA I've heard a lot.

I was talking about us western viewers obviously, it's normal to think that it was something good.
Anno, Khara and the Asian Fandom may have another interpretation having a totally different language and culture but it doesn't make it "more right".

Re: One recurring complaint about EVA I've heard a lot.

I don't know...For example, I noticed that many users here blames Shinji for caring only about Rei and not giving a tought about whole world. I'm not a huge expert, I'm only on my second year of philosophy's study at university, but Shinji's actions, in light of the knowledge he was given about Eva...

Re: Do people still hate Evangelion 3.33?

Mari seemed to have no problems at all with Rei Q and Shinji, she was casually talking to them trying to convince them to do the right thing.

Re: Do people still hate Evangelion 3.33?

Q is much more gentle on Shinji and the viewer than EoE is, it pulls him in a much worse position after Kaworu's death but the ending has a melancholic but overall extremely positive tone. EoE is not so gentle.

You were lucky, it could have happened while you were on a vacation and you would have found all sorts of maggots and flies partying hard in there.

Re: The game of Shogi: a view on characters and plot in Rebuild

You know that one of your friend being a clone of your mom and dead is a bit hard to believe when that same friend is talking to you in that precise moment, right? The timing of all of this is extremely fortunate but Gendo is that kind of character that has everything "planned" and all goe...

Re: The game of Shogi: a view on characters and plot in Rebuild

I'm not talking about him influenting the outcome. I'm talking about Gendo knowing enough about WILLE members that he could just lay back and let them do his work. He doesn't needed to do anything. He just expected them to act petty towards his son. It doesn't require masterful thinking to suppose ...

Re: How Evangelion Gets Away With Being Terrible

I don't agree on any of point or interpretation in that video. The fact that you think Rei is supposed to be "a love interest" in 2.0 makes me wonder if we saw the same movie, and the comparison between the scene the scene with Shinji and Yui in EoE it's just wrong. How can a scene like th...

The game of Shogi: a view on characters and plot in Rebuild

I found a two part article on an italian Eva site, links at the bottom, about the game of shogi in the three movies. Some parts of it were already well known, like Gendo = King/ruler of humanity, but there were also details and connections that I didn't read here. Here's a quick summary. Some terms ...

Re: What was Seele's original goal for Fourth Impact? Eva Q

I don't believe they wanted individuals to become gods, but for individuals to be gathered into a single godly being. The Infinities were a part of this process. This would explain why the FoIs are desperately reaching for Lilith's head, as sperm would to fertilize an egg; the Infinities were going...

Re: Anyone else feel dislike towards EoE nowadays?

But don't you think that Gendo had what's coming to him? And maybe Asuka too? Death is never a right punishment, no one has the right to chose if a human being should die, especially in the name of justice. I can concede that being eaten by Yui was fitting in a narrative but I didn't see it has som...

Re: Anyone else feel dislike towards EoE nowadays?

Ah, I see. That's the best part though! I mean, isn't EoTV really just one long introspective sequence? Or is more the contrast between action and introspection that's the problem? I think it's mainly the switch from action to the credits and then introspections that slow down the movie a lot, basi...

Re: Anyone else feel dislike towards EoE nowadays?

I'm actually not sure what you mean here in regards to pacing. Mind elaborating a bit? I was just referring to the extremely long introspective sequences that made up pretty much all episode 26'. Episode 25' was more action based, SEELE attacks NERV, Asuka has a kick ass fight, Misato is risking ev...

Every question that starts with "Anyone else feel..." can be answered with a "yes", we are 7 billions on this planet so you are never the only one to feel or experience something. That said I'm not a great fan of EoE as a movie. It is a product with a strong artistic value and it...

Re: Why didn't Shinji finish Asuka off in EOE?

I don't think Shinji had any real intention of hurting Asuka, but anyway the reason why he stopped doing whatever he was doing and started crying was very clear: http://www.stevegilham.com/nge/farewell-yui.jpg http://www.stevegilham.com/nge/farewell-asuka.jpg Asuka gave him some love for the first t...
