Re: What anime are you watching right now? Summer 2016 to now
Okay, I've gathered my thoughts a bit on TTGL . I remember after episode 8, I was left asking myself "well what are they gonna do now?" Kamina was the lifeblood of the show; he stole every scene, he pushed everyone and everything forward, and I had thought the show would lose basically all...

Re: Dreams about Evangelion...
Had a dream recently after finishing Gurren Lagann where Kittan and his gunmen were part of Willie's team in 3.0.
3.0 SPOILER: Show
It was pretty funny in hindsight because he still hated Shinji along with everyone else. Which is to say that even in my dreams, Shinji never gets a break.

Also, I'd like to know some of your guy's honest opinion about me. I can take it. Do I always come off as a bit an asshole for having such a low opinion on Asuka? Or have a bad reputation of it? If you're wondering if you have a reputation of any sort just look at the thread title. Personally, I en...

That's funny. Me too.
SPOILER: Show
I've never seen anything like it. Can't really express the words right now. It was just a rollercoaster and every episode was a like a mini-rollercoaster. Amazing experience.
Watch it if you haven't already.

Re: Rebuild is shallow tangent
^ I’m noticing that anytime Anno decides to focus less on the waifu material and focus more on Shinji, things get dicey with American/Western audiences. It sounds like you're implying that they were designed to just be waifus from day 1. I feel like you don't really believe this, so I can't quite u...

Re: Rebuild is shallow tangent
Prove it if you can (and you can't, because it's impossible to prove that red is a better colour than green). In the realm of characters as a whole, NGE Shinji and NTE Shinji are far more alike than they are different, and it is reasonable to compare them if you wanted to. Not saying I agree with A...

Re: Mari Breaking the Loop?
Perhaps I wasn't clear:
There is a discernible difference between being dead-set on NTE being a sequel and merely being open to the idea of NTE being a sequel. When I say "close-minded", I am referring to a refusal of the latter, not the former.

Re: Mari Breaking the Loop?
Let NGE go... at least when discussing Rebuild. Seriously; there's liking something and then there's this... being such a fanboy that you can't enjoy the reboot without somehow linking it, in-universe to the original is sad. [...] And please don't try and explain how any of these are connected (the...

Blade Runner 2049 was a fantastic film. Ray's cautious pessimism can be assuaged.

Re: Sequel theory once again.
FOUR ENTIRE MOVIES worth of narrative cohesion and integral structure coaxes far too much investment from the audiences in order for a dream ending to even be interesting. And waiting until the very end of FOUR ENTIRE MOVIES to reveal to the audience that it was a sequel to something else entirely ...

Re: Rebuild is shallow tangent
NTE’s larger budget doesn’t only give its audience more spectacular battle scenes, but it also gives audience more detailed character animation. As a result more nuanced things are conveyed through character blocking and movement than they were for the original TV series. Okay... :chinscratch: I me...

Re: Rebuild is shallow tangent
The films require the audience to be more engaged as Anno is actually doing some subtle work for once while still making his broadest spectacle driven features yet loaded with action scenes. I am completely lost when it comes to this mindset. In what ways is NTE more subtle than NGE? (I'm not neces...

Archangel wrote:It's a sequel = boring
It's all a dream Shinji is having in the sea of LCL during End of Eva = boring and lame.
Is that necessarily so? I'd say it's all dependent on how these concepts would be utilized, more than anything else.

Re: How Evangelion Gets Away With Being Terrible
A single explanation can generate hundreds of interpretations. Human interactions are a fixed value of 0 and 1,they can be every value in between and can be read in many ways. Maybe I should have used "extensively documented" instead of "fully explained" to better explain what I...

Re: How Evangelion Gets Away With Being Terrible
I really disagree with this. As one of the regular posters here points out, NGE was often guilty of telling us its point instead of showing, e.g. Shinji's conversations with his subconscious self on the traincar. EoE actually tells you the point it's trying to make through Yui's monologue at the en...

Re: How Evangelion Gets Away With Being Terrible
I am not dismissing his claim that NTE isn't as good as NGE. I'm only challenging his logic getting there. I don't think NTE is as good as NGE either. Okay, that makes much more sense to me. Sorry for misinterpreting. But that doesn't keep NTE from being good or even impressive in its own right. I ...
