Re: Evangelion and Personality Disorders.
I saw this quote in the Paranoid/Schizo interview Anno: That's the same thing as I [myself] becoming an adult. I'm often asked if Shinji-kun [represents] an old version of myself, but that's not the case. Shinji-kun is my current self (laughing). I act like a fourteen-year-old boy; I'm still childis...

Re: Why do people like Rei Ayanami?
I think Asuka is a great character but I had family a lot like her and I feel “safer” around Rei.

Re: A very old documentary on Teilhard de Chardin shows an apocalypse that is strikingly similar to the Third Impact
Here is an old documentary about a Jesuit priest named Pierre Teilhard de Chardin https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K-OWt4rHM5A In the documentary, all of humanity gets merged together into a single superconsciousness. Many of the images are strikingly similar to the what appears in the End of Evange...

Interview with a girl with simple schizophrenia, negative symptoms but no or few positive ones. Kinda reminds me a little of Rei.

Re: Mother is the First other: The Human Instrumentality Project and Lacanian Psychoanalysis
Hey so not only do I think you guys are right the show mentions “Klein space” in ep 20. I never noticed that before. Great find folks. Rewatching it does make more sense through that lens.

Re: Mother is the First other: The Human Instrumentality Project and Lacanian Psychoanalysis
Curious, I always saw more influence of Kleinian psychodynamics in the Instrumentality. The whole "breaking of the ego boundaries" and confrontational analysis presented on episodes 25 and 26 reminded me very much of my supervised practice. I did some reading, I think you guys are right, ...

Seele thinks the Ego is sort of constructed thing for dealing with other people, it wouldn't necessarily be death but a return to a state of infancy.

Re: Netflix English Dub Discussion
It's not awful per se, but given the hype, the opportunity and the investment, it had all the room to be so much more than simply "okay." Yea, the old dub had more "Energy" as did the sub. I really do like some of the voices but the dub itself is just kinda ok. but I am totally ...

Re: Netflix English Dub Discussion
Dub seems ok so far, I like Asuka and Rei's voices. I wouldn't say I like them as much as the old but they do seem a bit more real to me. On the other hand the Translation is awkward and everything seems a bit too subdued.

Mother is the First other: The Human Instrumentality Project and Lacanian Psychoanalysis
So this is a VERY provisional thing I am writing. Its not much but I hope to build on it in the future. I figure I would share it though to get feedback and maybe someone might find it useful. The Human Instrumentality Project and Lacanian Psychoanalysis Throughout Neon Genesis Evangelion SEELE, the...

Re: The Tree of Life Significance
Clarke would be proud of this series for sure. That said, I definitely wouldn't call SEELE pseudo-Religious. The thing they're praising may not actually be a divine being of otherworldly origin (well, it is, but not in that sense) but they definitely act like the worst depiction of religion possibl...

Re: Was Yui nearly as bad as Gendo?
A lot of what Yui does seems to only make sense if 3I is inevitable, which from her dialog seems to be the case (Or at least she seems to think it is) so as horrifying as 3I is, I think thats the best she could do. It had to happen and thats the least awful way. anyway her stated actions seem to be ...

Gnosticism and Science fiction have a long relationship. I'm actually writing a short article and Gnostic parallels in Lain. Its worth pointing out Gnosticism and Kabbalah have a close relationship, as do most wester mystic traditions.

Their are two roads to immortality cult classic that survives the generations and major success that influences everything. Animation aside NGE has the advantage that their is nothing really "like" it. so it will be popular with people who like that stuff unless more and better come out ou...

Re: First half or Second half of EoE: Which was better in your opinion?
25' great set up, seeing Shinji fall to his lowest lows is awesome. Violence porn, god help me I love it. everyone who needs to is killed off is neatly. Great pacing with the action. actual pacing action scenes is almost a lost art in Hollywood today so I give credit to old movies that do it. 26' ni...

Re: Do You Think Rei Was Un-Tanged Shortly After "Kimochi Warui"?
Based on my interpretation of Rei's character in Neon Genesis (at least the original anime series, my views of Sadamoto's manga differ), I highly doubt she would return to human form. Rei is clearly uncomfortable simply existing, she's the soul of a god forced into a fake body, a clone of someone w...

He would really have to have some STEM background to run NERV, connections be damned, without some formal training he wouldn't even know what was going on or how to delegate. I mean look at the Manhattan project as the closet analog. At the high levels you wouldn't find anyone without "Doctor&q...
