Re: (Accidental) Gnostic Parallels in Evangelion

Gnosticism and Science fiction have a long relationship. I'm actually writing a short article and Gnostic parallels in Lain. Its worth pointing out Gnosticism and Kabbalah have a close relationship, as do most wester mystic traditions.

Re: How will future generations perceive Evangelion?

Their are two roads to immortality cult classic that survives the generations and major success that influences everything. Animation aside NGE has the advantage that their is nothing really "like" it. so it will be popular with people who like that stuff unless more and better come out ou...

Re: First half or Second half of EoE: Which was better in your opinion?

25' great set up, seeing Shinji fall to his lowest lows is awesome. Violence porn, god help me I love it. everyone who needs to is killed off is neatly. Great pacing with the action. actual pacing action scenes is almost a lost art in Hollywood today so I give credit to old movies that do it. 26' ni...

Re: Do You Think Rei Was Un-Tanged Shortly After "Kimochi Warui"?

Based on my interpretation of Rei's character in Neon Genesis (at least the original anime series, my views of Sadamoto's manga differ), I highly doubt she would return to human form. Rei is clearly uncomfortable simply existing, she's the soul of a god forced into a fake body, a clone of someone w...

Someone wrote something how Eva has heavy Lacan influence. Lacan was tremendously influenced by Hegal. I that that's one of the least explored areas of Eva.

Re: Grand unifying theory of Evangelion: Gendo the Janitor

He would really have to have some STEM background to run NERV, connections be damned, without some formal training he wouldn't even know what was going on or how to delegate. I mean look at the Manhattan project as the closet analog. At the high levels you wouldn't find anyone without "Doctor&q...

Re: Does Shinji deserve all the hate?

My personal opinion is that the vast majority of the Eva viewers don't actually understand it, in the anime fandom Eva is considered great in spite of its ending for example, not (also) because of the ending. I can't imagine how it's possible to dislike Shinji and like Eva at the same time, for me ...

Re: Does Shinji deserve all the hate?

I think people here gloss over some fairly horrible things he does. Jerk off scene the most obvious. He’s also really dependent on others. Your free to feel however you want about him but it’s not as if people only don’t like him just “cus he’s a wus!” And then this weird projection thing, people do...

Re: Ayanami and Autism

I've heard people suggest Rei is Schizoid. Emotional coldness, detachment or reduced affect. Limited capacity to express either positive or negative emotions towards others. Consistent preference for solitary activities. Very few, if any, close friends or personal relationship, and a lack of desire ...

Re: What would Evangelion be without Shinji?

People don't like being reminded of the flaws that exist within themselves. That is why so many people are "hateful" toward Shinji, because they don't want to admit that they've been like him. We don't want to admit when we're weak or vulnerable. He gets a lot of unnecessary hate by a lot...

Re: What would Evangelion be without Shinji?

Its worth noting you can think someone is an excellent character and not like them. I feel Their are people who like him, people who hate him, and people who think he's well written and not care for him as a person. Their are a lot of fictional characters like that.

Re: What would Evangelion be without Shinji?

Nothing, the vast majority of the show's substance is him. Even the other characters, some of which are very deep are developed in relation to him. With him no one remembers eva in 2000 let a lone 2017.

Re: Evangelion and Personality Disorders.

Woot! I definitely think he does have some avpd that's why he's so miserable because it makes his dpd more difficult. As for the house broken male thing, I dont mean that he did house who. I might be miss remembering, but didn't give up and just do as he was told before that. I'm thinking maybe the ...

AVPD or DPD

So it seems the common consensus is Shinji has AVPD, He defiantly has a lot of symptoms of Avoidance. I was Wondering however does he also have DPD or some kind of mix? He really depends on other people to make all his major life choices (Eva pilot, Cello), To validate him (something someone with pu...

Re: Observations on rewatching again in 2016.

I wouldn't say that Rei's speech solely switched his mindset. Through instrumentality, Shinji was able to experience a world where only he exists--a world without Eva (in other words: the real world , hence the live action scene). I'm almost certain that Shinji's epiphany would originate more from ...

Re: Observations on rewatching again in 2016.

What EoE does is display Shinji at his lowest point, unwilling to live or do anything, eventually coming to it's climax as he wishes the world would just die. By the end, he reaches an epiphany and decides that he finally is willing to live and do things. His character does a complete 180, and yeah...
