Re: How Evangelion Gets Away With Being Terrible

The argument of "why create X" is always the laziest argument to make. NTE exists because Hideaki Anno felt a need & desire to make it. That's all the reason you need to create anything. What he said about the films back in 2006 matter little in the long run. Whether it was mere hype -...

^ And that, silvermoonlight, is why a lot of pedophiles & rapists get to keep making movies in the film industry. Because even though he "should die in a grease fire" people are willing to look away & okay them & their enablers getting paid as long as they get their 90 minutes ...

^ PSA: The writer/director of all the Jeepers Creepers films is an actual convicted pedophile who videotaped his rape of one of the underage stars of his early films.

Don't share or support his work.

Re: [Film] The Trailers & Upcoming Films Thread

I still like Jennifer Lawrence (she's great in mother! ) but the problem is she's routinely miscast because she's the It Actress EVERYBODY wants in their movie. Also I think it's unfair to say that she's in everything because the truth is she isn't - since her big break in 2012 she has only appeared...

Re: If Shinji were to die in the final film.

3.0 is the first time Anno's work in the universe has moved towards subtlety. After the pretty straightforward 1.0 & the scream it loud emotionality of 2.0 Anno takes a strong turn into internalized conflict with the supporting cast. Even NGE is very loud & in your face when it comes to emot...

Alien Series Rank for Me: 1. Alien 2. Aliens 3. Alien: Covenant 4. Alien 3 5. Prometheus 6. Alien: Resurrection. And even Resurrection is a movie I hold dear to my hear and have watched too many times to count. We don't speak of the AVP films. Oh & Sion Sono's TAG is on Netflix streaming if you ...

Re: If Evangelion had a clearer approach, would it lose its charm?

NGE is a classic case of "Lighting in a Bottle". That magic moment when the right artists at the right age - Anno & his peers where all young & thirsty for success after some tough years - are all congregated in the right space - Gainax - at the right time - mid 90s - and had the ...

Re: What anime are you watching right now? Summer 2016 to now

Is New Game! any good? The art seems solid & I like stories about a workplace environment but from the clips I've seen I'm getting the vibe that: A) There isn't much focus on the actual work. B) It's another anime show that exists in a strange post-apocalyptic utopia where all men have died off ...

Re: All Evageeks should watch HBO's True Detective

Jeremy Saulnier is a quality guy. Only got to meet him for a few minutes but Blue Ruin is a perfect example of the tone he would bring to a third season. As long as the writing is up to snuff - the writing of this season has not been as rushed as Season 2 was which basically ended up shooting with a...

You don't let the man who made The Book of Henry direct your super blockbuster. No matter how many garbage Jurassic World's he's directing (of which Trevorrow had 0% to do with the films success, people were going to go see the first Jurassic Park movie in over a decade no matter who did it) Either ...

Re: Evangelion's site and Facebook/Twitter covers updated with new images - First teases of Shin Eva

I have zero hopes for a teaser. I don't think Khara would just unceremoniously drop something like that anytime in the near future. Now if Khara & the official Evangelion website start hyping up a showing of 3.0 on Japanese TV that will could complete with a new post-credits teaser. Otherwise th...

A Writer's Strike would really wield some interesting & debilitating hits to the film industry now that the "Cinematic Universe" thing has become the centerpiece of the business. An incredibly shitty sequel can sink a franchise, but an incredibly shitty movie can damage your Cinematic ...

Re: Superhero/Comic Based Films & Tv - Vol.2

Honestly, Warner Brothers has made a million mistakes with the DC Universe but a big one in my opinion has always been casting Ben Affleck in the role of Batman. He can give a fine performance mind you but for the past decade it's been common knowledge that Affleck's true focus is on becoming a powe...

Re: Evangelion's site and Facebook/Twitter covers updated with new images - First teases of Shin Eva

I like that we're at the point with Final that whenever I see a recent post has been made on the Final boards I can get excited thinking something new has had happened. Even when there is nothing new I like that little rush. Maybe tomorrow? It is the 10th anniversary of Evangelion 1.0: You Are (Not)...

Looks like Ben Affleck's next directorial project is NOT going to be a Warner Brothers picture. Since he used to be part of the "Untouchable" directors (WB is/used to be famous for being director friendly, until Christopher Nolan starts losing them money they'll give him a blank check for ...

Re: Star Wars

Star Wars fans will never quit. They've had since 1983 to walk away. There hasn't been an above average movie in the series since. Also you can't underestimate the generational power of Star Wars. It's a series that people grow up with and then pass that joyous infection off to their kids.

Re: Star Wars

Disney ain't gonna play risky games with Star Wars. The fans have proven after 40 years they don't like change. Disney is not going to provide much change. Most likely for at least the next decade the furthest they'll stray from the main series will end up being Rogue One... which was a fan pandery ...

Re: Netflix's Death Note Live Action Adaptation

Thanks. I am shocked though to see a lot of people online sympathize with the anime version of Light. I found him an odious person devoid of positive character traits by the end of the first episode. He represents the worst of humanity. I'm left wary of viewers who watch the entire show & then w...
