Re: Studio Khara Sues Gainax for 100 Million Yen in Royalties

Puts on my best Verbal Kint impression. "And like that - poof - Gainax was gone." ...or not. Let's see if this is real & not just Yamaga bluffing to appear in control. http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2017-06-23/gainax-begins-uru-in-blue-anime-film-production-this-month/.117938

Re: Star Wars

^ Ant-Man is probably the perfect film to bring up as a comparison. Both Marvel & Star Wars are product producing juggernauts that market themselves as "visionary friendly studios" but ultimately are driven entirely by the producers. Kevin Feige & Kathleen Kennedy are both the true...

Makes you wonder who the next Human Torch to be cast in a Marvel movie will be.

Re: Star Wars

Oof. That HAN SOLO movie is gonna be soooo bad*. Even the Kings of Bad Movie Ideas can't save it. Plus they were axed after more then four months of shooting with only two or three left. Everyone on that movie is about to get a healthy paycheck as the schedule for that film goes over & over &...

Re: How Evangelion Gets Away With Being Terrible

Nope. My issue is it's the usual pedantic view of " Neon Genesis is the greatest work ever created & every person who has ever watched it has fallen head over heels in love with it (not true, a good many people dislike & even hate NGE for completely rational reasons) so because Rebuild ...

Re: [Film] The Trailers & Upcoming Films Thread

Public Service Announcement: TRANSFORMERS: THE LAST KNIGHT comes out tomorrow. It's the start of an intended Cinematic Universe with a new movie every year done in the same vein. It also has a strict review embargo that doesn't lift until Wednesday OR Friday. Maybe just don't go.

Re: Superhero/Comic Based Films & Tv - Vol.2

^ Joss Whedon was a script doctor early in his career getting paid to do uncredited work on movies. He did some heavy work on Waterworld, Speed, the original X-Men and a few others. A LOT of people make a very good living doing that. You can google Joss Whedon + Waterworld to read some of his though...

Re: Anyone else feel dislike towards EoE nowadays?

Nope. It's the peak of Evangelion & has a comfortable place among my three favorite films of all time. It has not aged a day since I first saw it over a decade ago. It's gotten better with age.

Re: Godzilla & Kaiju General!

So the anime Godzilla: Monster Planet trilogies version of the big guy looks very similar to the American 2014 reboot. Interesting.

Re: Universal Monsters shared universe films

Tonally deaf film - it is a horror movie? An actioner? A buddy comedy? A Mission: Impossible sequel? A superhero origin film? An American Werewolf in London knock-off? - that is almost saved by the ridiculous over-the-top thing Russell Crowe thing is doing. A bad start for a super franchise - as an ...

Re: Universal Monsters shared universe films

This film was doomed because A) Alex Kurtzman is not a well-versed enough filmmaker to make a movie of this budget yet. B) He's also not a good storyteller in general. C) This might be Tom Cruise's first blockbuster gig where he wasn't really pulling the shots behind the scenes. Knock the guy for hi...

^ Yep. Justice League is most likely going to be a lost cause. It was a project fully up & running before BVS hit theaters with the exact same creative team repeating what they did on that disaster. There will be comedic elements added to JL for sure to act as "course correction" but t...

Re: Superhero/Comic Based Films & Tv - Vol.2

The easy takeaway from Wonder Woman is WB needs to focus on making their DC movies work as actual movies. Forms of entertainment that reach across to all audiences & entertain people. Not misogynistic hate-filled manifestos written to angry 12 year old boys. Once the hurdle that is Justice Leagu...

Re: Godzilla & Kaiju General!

I would have liked to see Gareth Edwards return but both mega blockbusters went phenomenally over budget so that would give any studio head concern. The blockbuster filmmaking in GODZILLA 2014 is some of the best large scale movie magic I've seen in like a decade. It's the closest anyone has come to...

*Throws up over the side of the boat* "Carrots. Why is it always carrots? I didn't even eat carrots?" A far more entertaining & visually impressive movie than people give it credit for. I also have a real fondness for Treasure Planet, took one of my first major girlfriends to that movi...

How does that make it impossible? What assumption is there to have that David killed off ALL the Engineers? For a species that we see has a history of sending their people off across the galaxy seeding other planets it seems presumptuous to assume ALL the Engineers are in that one city at that exac...

Re: What would you change about cinema/film history?

Lol at the ban joke. I'd be so bummed if that happened so hopefully not. Actually, now that you mention Del Toro I'll add one more change: The script & vision was not at all truthful to real H.P. Lovecraft - it's not the tentacles that make his work chilling - but I would have loved to see Guill...

SUPER excited for Luc Besson's Valerian & the City of a Thousand Planets. Already prepared to be crushed when it massively flops due to modern audiences having little to no interest in non-franchise/non-safe big budget cinema.

Star Wars would end at one film.
That's it.
One. Star Wars. Movie.
