I find it to be ore like a Nirvana, on the commentary, someone used the phrase "spiritual orgasm," which is actually not too far to how it would be. I remember reading that the male orgasm is actually accompanied by about 1/100th of a second completely devoid of thought.
The purpose of writing is to inflate weak ideas, obscure poor reasoning, and inhibit clarity. With a little practice, writing can be an intimidating and impenetrable fog!

Yeah? What about the female one? :D

Personally, I think "spiritual orgy" might be the better comparison.

i can see that it would be hard to write about nothing

Well, the whole point of the story is that things START happening there... (Well, that's hardly the "whole point" of it, but you know what I mean.) But, still, a damned bleak scenario. Once you know the ins and outs of the place, it becomes pretty damn boring.

Shinji didn't seem too bored wandering through everyone's memories and minds.

Third Impact would be idealistic, as no one suffers anymore. They don't find pleasure in it, either, but it's the ultimate existence. In other words, nothing happens, and nothing exists.
Shinji, however, simply wanted to live, at the cost of pain, becauses he also wanted to find something enjoyable in the world.

And here's my one-sentence summary
Because, in the end, we know that it's true.

Not long ago I had it out with Gundumpilotspaz on this very issue in THIS thread. (I think I won because he stopped posting first.) I linked to the post where I first questioned his statement that choosing instrumentality would have been a happy ending, but the entire thread is excellent.

Why do i like eva?

for one its the greatest thing to happen sence the 1 impact and it shows me what a human life can acomplish when backed into a corner which show why the human race has lasted so long it reaches into the farest depts of my mind and soul to show that inner darkness that exsicts in every thing every time i see it shows me that trying to know every thing is useless and through the vast expance of knowlege there is a black cold hole that sucks up every thing learned and then i have to start at the begining agian but the show also gives hope that someday humans will find peace in there banishment and become one with each other starting over as one.

( didnet say anything about run-on sentences lol)
Don't ban me for a limited time! Either ban me for good or let me be. (I only hold grudges for a few years lol)

I like Neon Genesis Evangelion because it goes to apocalyptic extremes to covey the dangers of one's attempt to continually run away from their problems and from themselves.
FROM EVANGELION:
"Acts of Man are greater than acts of God!"

"I'm saying that I love you."

NOT FROM EVANGELION:
"You are excrement. You can change yourself into gold."

I first watched NGE (the original TV anime series) when I was 14, and I was going through a lot of the same issues as the characters, which made them extremely relatable. It's actually quite difficult to only give one reason why the show is so great, but that's one of the biggest reasons I like it so much (anything you watch as a child or up to that age has a big impact on you, especially if it relates to things happening in your life).

edit: Shit, I didn't realize this was a 12 year necro-bump, my bad.

Even with all the great aspects Eva has - from it's story-building to it's action scenes to the beautiful images -, it forever has a place in my heart for realizing that I am who I am and saved me from committing suicide.

Honestly, simply the fact how they are able to make a story so complex, certain parts of it are still being disscussed about to this day and how the issues of certain characters are relatable to experiences I went through in my life.
It was a long, long, roundabout path...

I love Eva because it made my ♥ beat and my mind race at a time I was capable of neither.

I concur. I've got to make sure I remember this quote.

Director Black's reason is also very emotionally stimulating.

It gave me hope in a time where I hated the mere thought of it.
