FML general thread [8]

Yeah. You read right. This is for everything that doesn't have anything to do with Eva.

Will this horrible month EVER end?! Just saying that it has felt extremely long and I literally cannot wait for August to roll around the corner so that maybe I can stop this mental torment.

Well, my son just sent me a message basically saying "you're not this dad, my mom's boyfriend is!" - part of me wants to believe that his mom is telling him what to say, but maybe I'm just telling myself that because I don't want to deal with the more depressing possibility that this is his actual, unique opinion, and not something sculpted by years of motherly brainwashing.

Somehow, when I ask my family and friends about what I could've done differently seven years ago when she decided to take him and run off, they all tell me that I did the right thing by not fighting her for custody (or pressing charges for kidnapping). Did I do the right thing?

Well, my cat is sick, liver problems caused by something, we're not sure what. He didn't eat, barely moved.

My father and I had had to take him in a bike, that wasn't fun. Still, he's in the vet now and is going to stay there for some time. It's best that way, if he stayed home he would have just slowly died.

I'm leaving soon, so my family will have to take care of the rest.

Yeah, I'm hoping for the best. He's had a similar liver problem a few years back and he recovered, so he should be alright.

I'm so sorry I hope he improves as my cat had health problems some time back but she came through so I hope they can help your moggy in some way also there's an elderly cat online called Grandpa Masion who has serious health problems but he outlived his prognosis.

Well, my cat still hasn't recovered and euthanasia is now a serious possibility. If it does come to that I'll be there, I have to.

There is still a chance he might recover, but I'm now more prepared if he doesn't. It'll hurt, but it'll be okay.

Also, writing this makes me feel better, so there's that.

Sorry to hear your kitty has yet to make a full recovery. Hopefully he'll surprise everyone and beat the odds.

Finally got a job, and I like the work itself, but they've loaded way too many hours onto me and I simply can't adapt / recover quickly enough. Graveyard shift, on my feet for most of 9 hours, physically demanding (not compared to construction work, maybe, but compared to NEETdom, oh yeah). The biggest problem I've encountered is that my ankles swell up and the associated muscles become twitchy. This makes me unable to sleep reliably until basically evening the next day, by which time the swelling has gone down. Which means I only start getting deep sleep mere hours before the next shift -- obviously a huge problem for those two days in a row they're making me work, and a spanner in the works for trying to maintain any kind of actual sleep schedule.

I wasted all morning earnestly attempting a combination of bandage wraps, ice packs, and elevation. No good. I wonder if I'm going to have to go through a checklist of like fifteen different things to try on my dumb legs so I can sleep. Doing all fifteen in a row will work, y'see, because they'll take so long to do that by the time I'm done the result will be the same as if I hadn't done anything.

Guess most obvious thing is to ask for one less day (as in get rid of the consecutive ones) but knowing my success with jobs this would only delay the inevitable anyway.

My cat passed away in the night today. I was already prepared for it. I'm just happy I was with him for a week before he died. When I was excavating in Tavira, I was afraid he'd already be dead when I came back.

Clint had a good life.

And thank you to all of you that hoped for his recovery. It made me really happy.

I'm so sorry for your loss, I always feel that its better for them to pass away at home surrounded by loved ones, than at the vets, because its the place they grew up in and had all the love.

If it is not due to a pre-existing medical condition, you may want to consult a doctor for that. IIRC swollen ankles (and feet) can be a symptom of heart disease :(

Foolishly, I had dramatically misdiagnosed the problem. I'd forgotten one of my medications interacts with basically everything, and it exacerbated my caffeine usage to the point that I was getting restless leg syndrome. I'm being much more careful now and the problem is basically gone.

So now the biggest issue turns out to be my knees and thumbs. Fuck my thumbs especially. Need to stop being a lazy piece of shit and see a rheumatologist about this stuff. There's arthritis on both sides of my family so I'm pretty much boned there.

Sleeping during the day ON PURPOSE is still a total pain in the ass, also.
