I noticed that a thread has not yet been posted for this decently popular (and, IMHO, quite good) anime. For various reasons, I think it might appeal to a good-sized portion of the NGE fanbase.

For those Eva-fans who haven't seen it, it's a really good story of an underground resistance movement, headed by a son of the tyrant they're trying to overthrow. It deals with the theme of self-knowledge very well.

Let me put it this way: It's an anime that has several characters worthy of deep analysis (Lelouch, Suzaku, Mao, C.C.). It might not seem that way, at first glance, but it really is a very deep show sometimes. I think that's something one doesn't often see outside NGE. This is why I consider it one of my favorite anime of all time.
(By the way, it has mecha too.)

I don't suppose anyone else here has seen it yet (and would like to give their opinions)?

P.S.
SPOILER: Show
Some folks might think that, just because CG doesn't always take itself seriously, it means that it's not intended to have a lot of depth. While I agree that it can be enjoyed on a purely superficial level, and that some scenes are clearly meant to be enjoyed that way, that does not mean that there is not a lot of really high-quality writing and cinematography going on. If anyone would like any examples of what I mean by that, feel free to ask.

Ah. I did a quick search for 'geass' in the searchbar, but I didn't see any. I didn't realize that it organizes the results based on recency, and not on whether the word's in the title (though one can probably do that, if one knew how...). Ah, well. Sorry 'bout that :) !

I just finished watching Code Geass for the first time. It was pretty good. My favorite characters are Suzaku, Euphemia, Shirley, Villetta, and Ohgi. I didn't really care for Lelouch, C.C., Kallen, Rolo, Tamaki, Tohdoh, Nunally, and the Emperor. I really liked the relationships between Suzaku and Euphemia and Villetta and Ohgi. What is C.C.'s real name? I also saw the new movie dubbed last week and got art cards of Lelouch. Today I watched the birthday and Nunally in Wonderland OVAs. I was annoyed by the fact that they were barely even animated at all. I'm probably gonna watch the Akito the Exiled OVAs this week.

Been on my list for quite a while at this point, I should really get to it... but I'm busy with way too many Gundam shows xD

The movies function on their own terms. If people can't accept them on those terms, and keep expecting them to be NGE, then they probably should have realized a while ago that they weren't going to have a good time. ~ Words of wisdom courtesy of Reichu

Whew, that last reply is a bit dated to say the least - tldr Code Geass is one of my favorite shows at this point.

But that's not why I'm here. I'm just coming back from watching Lelouch of the Resurrection - not quite what I expected going into it, but a good movie nonetheless.
SPOILER: Show
Overall, the movie can be compared to Gundam 00 Awakening of the Trailblazer - a bit of a mess compared to the rest of the show, but in a good, fun way.
Not nearly as much of a mess as Trailblazer itself (and definitely not as much of a mess as the other movie in the Code Geass franchise that I like to compare to it), overall just two hours of clean fun with a bit weird pacing.

The only real criticism of the movie I have is that it didn't fully commit to anything, and instead tried to be too many things at once. A lot of good subplots in there - CC trying to get Lelouch back from his rather.... absent self, Suzaku being the new Zero, Kallen, Sayoko, Lloyd and Cecile being a special forces unit, the inner workings of Zilkhstan, and a whole bunch of other little things that could each have used some more time.

The same applies to the big battle itself - to me, it's rather obvious that Lelouch determining Shamna's Geass originally was meant to be a much longer sequence, but the bulk of it was cut to a short compilation of implied failures.

Also I'd have preferred to have a bit more character drama and bad memories coming back up after a year, but that's probably just me

Just rewatched the movie with a friend - I have to say, I found it quite a bit more enjoyable to watch than the first time around. My points of critic still stand - the pacing is too fast at times, a lot of subplots could have done with plenty more screentime, and there definitely is a lot of unused potential for good drama, but all in all, those were far less... ergegious than the last time around. I'm still hoping for a director's cut that expands on the scenes that were only briefly touched upon, but all in all it is a movie that I can recommend to anyone who enjoyed the show (especcialy R2)

I really loved anything about Code Geass, also Akito the Exiled.
Havent seen this movie yet tho, imo, it doesn't really fit in a movie.
As you mentioned, I expect it to be way too rushed in a movie.

I'll pick it up soon tho.

Don't get me wrong, I very much like the original premise and the first two movies - I just feel like the second half crashed and burned hard through the sheer amount of unprecedented plot magic
SPOILER: Show
Also Lelouch and Suzaku had zero business being there in the first place
