Oh, his eyes are bad, alright. But so is everything else. He doesn't even look animatable. I can't imagine this thing moving at all.

I am clearly in the minority on Detective Pikachu movie. Everything about is giving me major Super Mario Bros: The Movie vibes. But, maybe Sonic the AHHH GOD NO GET IT AWAY FROM ME!!!! movie is closer in spirit to that Bob Hoskins/Dennis Hopper mess. I'll concede at the moment the Cute Gold Rat movie looks more promising than the Monstrous Blue Rat movie.

I can understand the concept of a live-action Pokemon movie or even a Mario movie. (You know, an actual good one.) But Sonic has historically been Bad For 3-D™ for a really long time, say nothing of a live-action setting. His design seems to look the best when the artists are fully utilizing the flat aesthetics of traditional pencil animation and illustration. Even the character design in good 3-D Sonic games can't seem to design shoes for him that don't look way too big. (How does he not trip over his own two feet in these games?) The monstrous size of his shoes is far less detracting to the core concept of the character when the illustrations are confined to a 2-D space.

And making his feet/shoes smaller in 3-D is clearly the wrong decision as well, because look at them. It's part of what makes this thing look like bootleg Sonic.

The fact that I hate Tarantino and he keeps making things I want to see only makes me hate him more intensely.

I love Tarantino's movies, so I'm really looking forward to this one as well, even if going by the trailer I'm a little left cold.

^ I've heard from a friend involved in the production that it's Tarantino's best script in ages.
One of the more impressive things about IN HOLLYWOOD at the moment is how closely they've guarded what the movie actually is about & what the story is. Tarantino scripts are very sought after things and he's been burned before because all his scripts starting with KILL BILL have been leaked online super early in production. He almost decided to drop THE HATEFUL EIGHT because the first draft of his script got leaked online. It's impressive that even at this date the production has been able to pretty much keep the story secret.

Tarantino is the only one doing spoiler culture right. JJ Abrams keeps disappointing us with worthless red herrings and pointless plot cul de sacs as tantalizing spoilers.

JJ Abrams should be tied to a giant magnifying glass and pointed at the sun so that he may become one with the lens flare, and thus stop working to perfect the stupid man’s idea of a smart movie.

Man,you guys are way harder on Abrams than I would be.
That said...I only truly remember Star Wars VII. I have watched MI3, Super 8 and both Star Treks. But man, it's been a lot of time.
I love Star Wars VII though despite some flaws. He did a good job there, and I'm looking forward to what he does with SW IX (and if he'll be able to overcome some of his filmmaking flaws).

Tarantino's Django and Hateful 8 were amazing. Django I'd actually put besides Pulp Fiction in my ranking of his films. I need to rewatch Hateful 8..

I still can’t get over how everything in VII is either a reference to ANH, or just the same thing but a lot bigger.

That's true, but I looked past that and just enjoyed the characters.
I also genuinely think Kylo Ren is one of the best written characters in the saga.

He is but not until VIII. The second one was downright daring compared to JJs movie.

VIII is the better movie, but I think I enjoy VII more.
It just is like that, I guess. Probably many little things that factor into it.

This seems to be an age of directors who are talented visual stylists but don’t k ow how to tell a story. Large parts of VII look gorgeous.

The first duel between Rei and Kylo Ren is magnificently executed but it’s hard to watch it without thinking “this is taking place on the really big super mega death star that has been shoved inside an ice planet because ice planets are cool and star warsy”

It’s a movie that tries so hard to be itself that it’s distracting.

Among the people who use the Internet, many are obtuse. Because they are locked in their rooms, they hang on to that vision which is spreading across the world. But this does not go beyond mere ‘data’. Data without analysis [thinking], which makes you think that you know everything. This complacency is nothing but a trap. Moreover, the sense of values that counters this notion is paralyzed by it.

And so we arrive at demagogy. - Hideaki Anno, 1996

We should all just wait with baited breath for the true nightmare of Sonic the Hedgehog when it comes to disappointments.

Also, JJ is an okay technical Director but not a good storyteller. At least, not lately. He’s the traditional Hollywood sense of the word “polish” being applied to various projects and stories throughout the industry. It’s not a bad gig if you can get it. If he does anything more (like his Mystery Box) then it just looks like he’s trying too hard.

He polishes that shit up so bright you can’t even look directly at it.
