You’re not going to know anything until they want you to know. All their talent are most likely under NDAs prohibiting them from talking about the project.

Also, since it’s a worldwide release, they probably want to make sure all their ducks are in a row before making any further announcements. They’ve already given themselves a delivery window of 3 months beginning March 20th, so there’s still conceivably several months to go before the exact release date is announced.

I would anticipate a press release possibly at the beginning of March announcing who is in the English dub cast.

Have you ever seen reports on their dubbing of other shows? I think the lack of them is pretty weak evidence.

^ I've never seen any, and honestly, we won't know if they redub it or not until it's released or we hear otherwise from the horse's mouth as it were.

The thing I'm most excited for with NGE's Netflix release (other than a ton of teenage kids watching funny meme get in robot A Cruel Angel's Thesis show and being psychologically scarred forever) is the revitalization of Eva merch in the US thanks to the popularity boom the series will have. Yeah yeah I get that's the entire message of Neon Genesis but fuck you I want to go into Hot Topic and see a 7" Zeruel plushie for $80.

^ I dunno, Eva is not exactly first watch friendly. So while there might some increase in Eva related internet traffic i think there is also a bit of overestimation to its general popularity. Unfortunately Eva is more commonly known through memes than its content and message, so i'm personally keeping my expectations for the netflix release low.

Bit unrelated but reading this thread i don't quite understand this whole dub vs sub thing. Unless folks are fluent in the language, you're still getting a translation one way or the other, and both dubs and subs have gotten things wrong.

The problem is not the dub per se... The problem arises when poor VA's are cast, when alien SFX are added and when entire lines are crafted out of thin air...

You are getting the acting performances envisioned/directed by the show's creator with sub (which in Eva's case is excellent).

Definitely third-ing how Spring does not necessarily mean a March release. I'm sure news will come out once all countries are on the same page, if it's a simultaneous international release. (Assuming there's various international dubs being recorded, some countries might be taking longer than others to get everything wrapped up.)

^ Netflix does like doing simultaneous releases, so if there are any holdups with redubs, the release would most likely be pushed until everyone is ready.

Regardless of whether or not they redub it, Vic Mignogna will not be in it.

It's unlikely he would've been in it. He was only in the Director's Cut episodes, and I don't even know how many lines he had.

Yeah, he and Monica Rial played Aoba and Maya respectively for the DC dub, which is now... awkward. I guess it could've been worse, seeing as how they were minor roles- but it's a shame Jason Lee didn't return.

Either way, I hope for competent voice actors this time around, across the board. A competent dub can make or break a resurgence in popularity of Eva in the Anglosphere, I feel.

^ Rial would not be my choice to voice Asuka, she'd make a better Misato, or better yet Ritsuko. But that is exactly what I meant about us making it awkward, and that scene in and of itself is creepy without anything else wonky being added in.

What if the reason there hasn't been any dub casting announcements as of yet is that Mignogna was actually cast as Shinji and now they're having to furiously backtrack, cast someone else, and rerecord all of his lines?

Probability of that actually being the case is negligible, but it still crossed my mind.
