Watched Bakemonogatari because it was on Netflix, had often heard about it, had liked Madoka (despite having some gripes with the script, but that's Urobuchi) and knew nothing about it, which was exciting.
I have fallen in love with this series. I don't like every aspect of it, especially some of the more questionable sexual content, but I love the whole.
Episode 12 is the best. It's just perfect.

Also watched Nisemonogatari (got it on bluray from the UK). Really great, but damn...that was something. Toothbrushes lol.

Will keep watching...but the BDs are pricey.
Shinji: "Sooner or later I'll be betrayed... And they'll leave me. Still... I want to meet them again, because I believe my feelings at that time were real."
Ryuko: "I'm gonna knock ya on your asses!"
-Asuka: THINK IN GERMAN!!! -Shinji: Öh... Baumkuchen...
Hayashida: "As game developers, our work is special. All of us here can put smiles on very many people's faces with our work."

I was going to warn you about Nise, if you're not into the fetish soft porn side of Monogats, lol. But it seems you've already seen it.
I really like Monogatari as well... Shouldn't ZokuOwari be out on BD sometime soon?

∆ I got a LOT of warnings about Nise lol.
The thing is, Nise is so fully what it is, that I was able to take it as that and enjoy the craziness. Whike in Bake I felt more surprised by those elements.

I think I would say the Nadeko episodes in Bake are worse than anything in Nise. They made me consider dropping the show (though I knew I had to keep watching). Thank God I didn't.

I think Nadeko is best girl.
Senjougahara is also cool. The snail brat made me almost drop the show whenever she turned up. So annoying. The Monkey is bearable, Hanekawa also is ok, but her plight is so weirdly artificial and there's so much spotlight on it, I got tired of her pretty fast.
In later seasons, much, much more interesting people will be introduced - the trade off is less visual experimentation.
Honestly I don't really care for the Harem aspect, I'm mostly there for the visuals, and the way they convey the story.

Yeah, what instantly made me fall in love with the show is how every shot is gorgeous.
I think Mayoi (snail girl) is actually funny. But you know how it is with comedy, it has to click with you.
Love Senjogahara.
Hanekawa I still have to see more of. I'm sure the prequel stories will show more of that.

Oh, also really cool how there are so many openings.
Platinum Disco is stuck in my head lol.

In later seasons, much, much more interesting people will be introduced - the trade off is less visual experimentation.

The first thing sounds good, the second not so much. I'm sure it'll still be really good looking though.

And I don't care about the harem either. I like how the show is self aware about that and uses it as comedy.

Great comedic timing in general too. Something like the scene of Suruga undressing in episode 2 of Nise is made so funny by the timing. "I'm already naked"
Shinji: "Sooner or later I'll be betrayed... And they'll leave me. Still... I want to meet them again, because I believe my feelings at that time were real."

Oh man, can you believe it? I watched those shows when they were airing.... Time sure flies... But I still remember all the scenes you are talking about. If that isn't a testament to.... something... I don't know what it is, lol.
Platinum Disco was all the hype back then... Oh my, I get mega nostalgic right now. I kinda envy you that you can experience the show now. Keep me updated!

If you're ok with how Nise looked, you'll be fine. While the director for Bake disappeared for 6 years to work on the Kizu movies (brilliant spectacle pieces), another director took over from Nise onwards. So expect the show looking more "conservative" like in Nise albeit with less crazy animation highlights.

Although I already loved the series, I have been finding that reading the books (as they come out in English translation) has given me a more nuanced view of some of the more controversial scenes in particular. It has also enhanced my enjoyment of the whole.

Keep me updated!

I will!
Nekomonogatari (Black) would be next. It'll be some time till I watch it. But if everything goes according to keikaku, I'll have watched up to the end of Season 2 by may.

I gotta say, it had been some time an anime clicked with me like this. There is something I really like about it.

(Till now the show somehow completely passed me by. Had no friend talk about it either.)

disappeared for 6 years to work on the Kizu movies

Yeah, the trailer for those looks amazing. I think I could watch them already, but I think I'll go by anime release order.

Although I already loved the series, I have been finding that reading the books (as they come out in English translation) has given me a more nuanced view of some of the more controversial scenes in particular.

It's actually pretty rare for me to go for an adaptation first. In this case, I think I'll keep watching the anime first, but if you say the novels are good I'll probably check them out at some point too. Seems like many are out in English.

I watched Nekomonogatari Black. Really liked it. Despite being a prequel with the broad events known, it was interesting.
The gore was more grounded in this one, was actually pretty disturbing (the arm scene my dude).
The show continues to be stunning visually. And the really idiosyncratic editing is so funny to me, like the short shots nearing the eye of X character, accompanied by that weird sound.

EDIT: SHAFT is celebrating the Monogatari anime's 10th anniversary.

EDIT 2: Watched part 1 of Second Season, Neko White.

On the same day of the Eva release date, another miracle happens:

Shinji: "Sooner or later I'll be betrayed... And they'll leave me. Still... I want to meet them again, because I believe my feelings at that time were real."
Ryuko: "I'm gonna knock ya on your asses!"
-Asuka: THINK IN GERMAN!!! -Shinji: Öh... Baumkuchen...

It's been frustrating that those haven't come yet (though there have been super-expensive special editions).

The English books have finished - that's to say I got Zoku Owarimonogatari just a few weeks ago (yes, I know that the series continues in Japanese...).

Yeah, I just couldn't afford those.
