Damn am I dark.

I know it's a movie.

But I can't force and ask from it to be better than it is.

I don't want to piss you off with that.

Not so much pissing me off as much as perplexing me with how over-the-top you're being regarding you're feelings towards 3.0 and Final

Either I'm stuck only with my view point towards Eva or that I don't see the good side of it.

And even if I want something good of it, it makes me not feel like I deserve it to feel so.

Every day over the years I thought of it over and over.

But I couldn't get to the conclusion why this would be without the worst to happen.

Funimation's theatrical run of the new Dragonball Super movie made $7+ million yesterday. Pretty damn impressive considering in most locations it only played once or twice a day. Though in one local theater in my area they're giving the film a full on theatrical run with five to six showings every day for the next week. I haven't done any further research but I think Funimation is keeping plans to run the film daily in most locations through the next week.

Now Evangelion can't compare to the awareness & popularity Dragonball has accrued in the States - it can't and isn't an argument worth having - but based on the success of this campaign I can easily see Funimation - who still should get/have the rights to 3.0+1.0 unless Netflix can convince them to sell their licensing rights for the first three films so all four can be on the Streaming Giant - doing something, though on a smaller scale, for 3.0+1.0 since it would be the next logical candidate for a theatrical run in their body of licensed materials.

Basically I'm saying keep an eye on Dragonabll Super: Broly & see how it does. I would anticipate based on its high success so far that whatever release Funimation has given that film, Evangelion 3.0+1.0 could likely get a similar release at about 60% of the DBS size.

https://deadline.com/2019/01/dragon-ball-super-broly-opening-day-domestic-box-office-1202536491/

Honestly, January is the PERFECT MONTH for Funimation to clean up at the US theatrical box office with anime releases due to the limited competition so if they were smart they'd be doing what they can to assure every future calendar year will have one major anime release running in theaters. The obvious candidate for January 2020 would be Makoto Shinkai's Weathering With You & depending on when it premieres in Japan, Eva would be the ideal January 2021 candidate.

My two cents.

SPOILER: Show
3.0+1.0 is actually three consecutively released movies. That would change things, if the NGE resembling 1.0 and 2.0 were less than half of Rebuild. It's not gonna happen, just throwing a crazy idea out there.

Releasing 3 movies back to back in consecutive years is a pretty tall order. They'd have to be working on at least two of them at the same time to pull that off.

The numbers might just indicate new projects. We know what 2020 is. Then a new project in 2021, 2022 and so on. If they're doing something each year I'd hazard a guess at a TV series of some kind or maybe a TV special/OVA. Won't necessarily be Eva-related.
Someday I hope that we'll be reunited if that is what's destined to be. Perhaps we'll discover that elusive bible. And then we will finally be free!

Deep down we all know that if 20-21-22 means 3 movies the reality will be 20-22-24 at best.

I think an Extended Cut of the movies is more likely.

I was thinking maybe each individual movie would be shorter. Like the Kizumonogatari project, a film made up of three films. The first one is only 60 minutes.
I haven't watched Kizu, so I don't know if the comparison makes sense regarding animation quality and stuff.

I was just making crazy speculation. :P But it does make me curious what he meant.

I think what gets released in 2020 will be the final film. Unless they're planning something truly insane Shinji's emotional journey doesn't have places to go for three more films.

Possibly it meant FINAL gets released in 2020. All four movies get slightly recut theatrical re-releases in 2021. All four films get home video releases in 2022.

Shrug. Until we know more everything is a guess. We probably won't have a clue what 21. & 22. meant until after the next films release next year.

UPDATE:
Funimation's theatrical run of Dragonball Super: Broly has pulled in over $22 million at the US box office. With a success like this I think a few people at Funimation would at least be considering the idea of giving the next Evangelion film a similar type run. It wouldn't make $22 million over six days but could maybe do half that with the right marketing. Are all Broly showings in English or did they do Dub & Sub?

January is a great time for anime runs. Hopefully Funimation is smart enough to repeat this business in the near future. Eva seems fit for it.

I have thought of something that seems rather obvious now. What if the release date for the film is july 29 2020?
That would be exactly four years after Shin Godzilla, it would make sense with the pattern of announcing something big each year that day and it would be in the middle of the summer Olympics.

Obviously I'm here wishing for a january release lol.

It's exciting to think we could get a trailer (with actual movie footage) this year depending on when the film comes out. Could.

^Wouldn’t be surprised if that happened.

Correct me if I’m wrong but late July has been a key time for Anno stuff lately. Shin Godzilla in 2016. Late July 2017 is when the Evangelion website updated with the poster. Late July 2018 is when the teaser trailer was released in theaters.

Could make sense.

Only question is would they want to release their film directly during the 2020 Summer Olympics which will be taking place in Tokyo at that time? (July 24 to August 9)

I thought about this too. Everybody was saying they would probably want to take advantage of the Olympics, but I don't know if they could distract from the film.
Maybe it would make sense to release the film some time before, so that the Olympics happen during its run.

I mean, maybe the film does get released early or late 2020, and this isn't on their radar. But seems likely it would be. I can imagine many fans or people interested in Japan in general going to see the film while on a trip there due to the Olympics.

Btw, totally different subject, I wonder if the film will release fast enough in the US to be Oscar eligible. Probably wouldn't get nominated anyway, since it's the fourth in a series and I can't imagine the Oscars caring. Would be so great for exposure (I don't care about the Oscars other than that). But they also ignored Shin Godzilla, which was one one of THE films in Japan that year.
Frustrating because, c'mon, of course it'll be one of the best (animated) films that year.
It would need to get distributed by Disney for the Oscars to care lol.

That "debacle" was over 5 years ago when Funimation had to explicitly follow Khara's demands & the process of giving non-Ghibli anime films a theatrical run was super Super SUPER new.
This will be with Toei/Toho after Funimation has given them several theatrical runs in the US and one of those - checks Dragonball profits online - did almost $30 million in a little over a week.
And again, as for "humiliation", it's simply that Netflix was able to outbid them/pay Khara's massive prices because Netflix has the deep pockets for it and somehow all this rampant spending is part of their masterplan to get out of being over $14 BILLION in debt & losing 21% of their stock value*. Unless Funimation sells their rights to the three other Rebuilds I doubt Netflix would pursue Final.

And don't hold out any hope for Oscar nom. Even if Final is the best movie ever for anyone in the academy to understand the film they'd have to familiarize themselves with the three previous films and since this ain't a Hollywood grown series they're not gonna do that.

*Really curious to see how Netflix plans to get out their massive debt that they keep adding on to since at the moment their business model is entirely unsustainable. Unlike their soon-to-be direct competitors like Disney, Netflix has the one revenue source - people paying a monthly subscription - and don't make billions off merchandize like shirts, toys or theme parks. Unless they drastically increase subscription prices several times over &/or cut their production of new material by 90% soon I'll be genuinely surprised if Netflix is still a thing a decade from now. At some point they have to pay back the debt they've acquired. But that's a conversation for another thread.

I was talking about Funimation saying No, not Khara or Toei/Toho.
Concerning the debt of Netflix.... Most countries still run stable with mega-debts... So why not a multi-billion dollar corporation? After all, we live in the Ghost in the Shell Timeline.

The moment Evangelion starts streaming Netflix will automatically make 14 billion dollars.
Seriously, they are massively popular, with smart strategies, it should work out.

Japan writes dates in YYYY/MM/DD format, so maybe 2020/02/02, which would make it the same both backwards and forwards. (20200202)
