Highschool of the Dead was the first anime I watched because I wanted and not because I found it on TV. I'll treasure it in my heart forever even if it remains incompleted. God bless the author.

Shinkai's new movie announced.

"In the film's story, high school student Hodaka leaves his home on an isolated island and moves to Tokyo, but he immediately becomes broke. He lives his days in isolation, but finally finds a job as a writer for a shady occult magazine. After he starts his job, the weather has been rainy day after day. In a corner of the crowded and busy city, Hodaka meets a young woman named Hina. Due to certain circumstances, Hina and her younger brother live together, but have a cheerful and sturdy life. Hina also has a certain power: the power to stop the rain and clear the sky. "

Can't wait to see them falling in love, fighting the obstacle that makes their relationship impossible and deal with some supernatural stuff with some very cool visual effects like in every other movie he's done before.

If it's any consolation, the illustrator behind it is still working on Triage X and said that he plans to end it with volume 21:

For those kinky minds out there interested, Critical Mass is re-releasing Anyone You Can Do, I Can Do Better on Blu Ray:

Hopefully, this means we see the rest of their catalog given the same treatment in the near future.

So it seems we're getting an adaptation of the "Do you even lift, bro?" manga (Danberu Nan Kiro Moteru?) from Dogakobo this summer -- https://natalie.mu/comic/news/316090 Are you ready for cute girls lifting cute weights? I know I am.

From a troll chart near you...

... soon to be an Amazon Prime anime from Wit Studio : Vinland Saga, based on the manga from the same author as Planetes. At the moment, it's not clear to me how far into the story it will get (i.e. will it stop before the long "Farmland Saga" detour?)

Looks like the not!Gochiusa episode of PasuMemo is going to be dropped from the BD release (it's already missing from the story page, and if I read it right, any streams should stop in a week's time i.e. after the last episode airs), and probably BD!ep1 adjusted to reflect that change, too -- so directly into not!Rozen Maiden.

The Akira thing is some insane news.
I still have to read the manga. I actually own it but can't deal with the pages being flipped. :(
Shinji: "Sooner or later I'll be betrayed... And they'll leave me. Still... I want to meet them again, because I believe my feelings at that time were real."
Ryuko: "I'm gonna knock ya on your asses!"
-Asuka: THINK IN GERMAN!!! -Shinji: Öh... Baumkuchen...
Hayashida: "As game developers, our work is special. All of us here can put smiles on very many people's faces with our work."

BNA
Pros: New Trigger Anime by the dream team that brought us Little Witch Academia? Count me in!
While I'm close to getting sick to the VaporWaveColourPalette (TM), right now I'm still squirting by the sheer idea of a Trigger powered show utilizing it.

Cons: Furries are not my kink.

Akira
I think it's great, they try to capitalize on Akira being in theaters, but the last GitS reboot was very middling (cool OST, though), and I'm pretty sure a TV show will never be able to compete with the sheer AESTHETIC of the original movie, which is never good. Would love to be proven wrong, though.

^ The Furries will come (ew) but is Yoh Yoshinari the kind of filmmaker who indulges that kind of stuff? Genuine question on my part. One of my favorite things about his Little Witch Academia work is that they were some of the best top-quality animation storytelling that didn't oogle or engage in direct fan-service.

As for the Akira news, I've never owned the film before but I will be buying that 4K. Curious about the TV series. So that plans to tell the entire manga. I've never read it, is it a good read and how long would someone anticipate a TV series to be? This news also makes the live-action Hollywood Akira even more pointless in my eyes but that's never stopped Hollywood before..

It kinda got lost in the Akira news but at the same panel they announced Katsuhiro Otomo is in production on his third feature length film*, a sci-film called Orbital Era. The story is described as "taking place on a space colony under construction, and follows the lives of some young boys surviving in this peculiar environment and society as they are tossed around by fate." I don't think they announced when to expect it BUT they shared a simple simple teaser.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GEOveeZuor0

I haven't really kept up to date on anime TV series but there's a lot of exciting new theatrical animation projects coming out over the next few years!

* Crazy his only feature films have been Akira & Steamboy. Because Akira and his manga work is so referential I just figured he was one of those filmmakers who had a large body of work feature film work that I just hadn't familiarized myself with yet.

I guess he was cancelled by the industry, 'cuz Steamboy bombed so hard. Also there was Memories.
ORBITAL ERA looks cool, I just hope they find a way to make the character models not look shit in CGI.
