Shit it is three... my bad. I know why I forgot, it's been so long, and I want to say it's been 6 or 7 years, but I'm not even sure... now I'm just waiting for Tri to be finished so I can binge watch it all at once.

Anyway, the US version wasn't bad, I still think it's pretty great, and Kick It Up is still a great song (and that entire scene was greatly improved with that song included), but I was just using the mashed togetherness of the movie as an example of how Digimon was treated by its US distributor.

Although, Digimon had it better than Sailor Moon did in terms of fucky edits. Lesbians turned into cousins because lesbians were offensive to western culture while incest... wasn't... and season 5 never aired here because of the whole "boys turn into girls" thing. So it could have been worse. I mean how many people remember Monster Rancher?

I do. Still got the ADV Films tapes from back in the day. I also remember watching most of the first season on Fox Family as a weekend long marathon. The big plot twist being that Moo, the big bad, turned out to be Holly's father *Hello Empire Strikes Back ripoff  *.

For anyone who doesn't know, BlueAzureCrow has an abridged version of the Digimon Tri films, and I seriously suggest that any fans here watch them:

Ep1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4J7KStYleiI
Ep2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xSBLVwCCiN8
Ep3: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=48FwSZxYHZE
Ep4: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DzTY1mza9Qk

They incorporate the English Dub soundtrack, so it's honestly more nostalgic than watching the actual thing.

And Free sarcastic character quips and motivation analysis, for absolutely no digi-dollars down!

Be warned, they frequently get their videos pulled due to copyright objections, that's why there are "bordered" versions.

Digimon Adventure Tri Movie 5
This being shown on the big screen is just baffling to me, the poor level animation would barely be acceptable for TV-series standards. There is no theatrical quality in any aspect of its presentation. This is embarrassing for an anniversary project, compared to what Gundam and Pokemon are offering their fans in visual fidelity.
(What can I say, I’m a bling bling bitch, I like my entertainment to be beautiful)
But there is a silver lining, after the borderline incompetent writing of movie four, this time at least the writing is up to Digimon standards again. I do really love following those characters, and over all this resurrection doesn’t rape my childhood - which is something.

It still looks terrible, but man am I happy that at least the writing is competent again.

Toei is doing this with all of their "nostalgia" works, Dragon Ball Super isn't faring much better, although they have managed to make Goku's new transformation fight look at least decent.

But there is a silver lining, after the borderline incompetent writing of movie four, this time at least the writing is up to Digimon standards again.

I don't really agree. These episodes offered a more satisfactory answer for concluding Tai's crisis of Courage, but jokes were consistently lame, and it otherwise had the same ratio of flaws.

Highlights for me are still Joe's crisis of Sincerity in the 2nd episode set, T.K.'s crisis of Hope in losing Patamon in the 3rd, and Maki Himekawa's non-too-subtle contrast with Sora in the 4th in respect to their mutual crisis of Love.

In this one, it's basically implied that Himekawa:

SPOILER: Show
...will be raped. Because those same creatures that appeared to her threatened to make Kari the bride of their king, and Himekawa is too "damaged" to resist.

Further, with Kari and Meiko's partners "merging", we're being fed a connection between Kari and Meiko that wasn't really established in the earlier episodes, or really this one. Mei and Sora, or hell, Mei and T.K. have a more firmly established relationship than these two.

I also have to balk at Mei being called "Digidestined; just like us!"

She's digidestined, sure, but where's her crest, hmmm? Meicoomon only gets digivolutions due to plot hax of having a shard of the shikon jew--, I mean horcru--- I mean apocalymon.

She's basically on the same level as Willis.

Today I went back to my subbed Tri. viewing and saw episode 3 of part 3.

It was an almost exclusive Digimon partner episode and I loved every bit of not seeing the humans for a little while. Hikari turning into Homeostasis for the first time hearing her calm, serene voice out of M.A.O. was special. The whole reboot plan that Himekawa is cooking up seems to be like what John Hammond from Jurassic Park said about shutting down Isla Nublar's system, a calculated risk. So it's like damned if you do, damned if you don't.

New Digimon project coming soon. Since an Agumon image was teased in the message, it might as well be further continuation of the Tri. project...

Digimon Tri 6

It's sad man.

While the story-telling was at least competent, and the characters are still kind of entertaining to watch - everything else devolved into a disaster. The actual plot consisted of a series of ass-pulls.
(You are another form of the Digimon that attacked us recently, I'm so happy I randomly looked that up to make that twist land!)
(There happened some kind of error, while I made errors, so all the stakes are deleted now, lol!)

Frankly, it's insultingly terrible.
I mean, I know the plot is supposed to be a hurray and just show as many cool shinka as possible. And we get plenty of that, sadly the framework was so hastily cobbled together it just came of as botched.

The color palette devolved into shades of black for this drawn out finale. Animation was terrible as always, only this time I can count cuts that didn't where totally ugly on two hands. Even as a TV-show this (lack of) production value is embarrassing. I mean, look what Pokemon looks like now on a weekly basis!

To be fair, the last Episode does feature ok animation. But they've decided to throw out 3 versions of Butterfly in for good measure. Kick my nostalgia until it lies there, bleeding on the ground.

I was very forgiving to this reboot, because I'm a fan of the show. But fuck that, this was one step too far.
In the end, they should just have released the promotional posters, because this is tainting the reputation of my nostalgia.

That is really sad to hear as I really like the original series I remember watching it on 4kids.

It really is. To it's credit, the first two-three "movies" are not as bad. But on the whole this project is the definition of quick cash grab. Just watch the Shinka on Youtube and skip the rest. Also the newly recorded versions of Butterfly are beautiful.

Sad news in the Digital World today. Original Taichi actress Toshiko Fujita passed away recently after suffering from breast cancer:

Rest in peace and let's hope she's joined original Sora actress Yuko Mizutani in the afterlife.

I was checking out my Blu Ray collection of Tri when I found an interesting and satisfying element to the subtitles. When I put the ON option to the subtitles and then clicked on Japanese audio, the subtitles on the movie follow the original project complete with original native names and lyrics to the Butter-Fly opening song. IDK whether others have made this discovery like me but then again, what I am talking about is the 6 Blu Ray box set and not the individual volumes so maybe they stepped it up for the box set or not. Feel free to sound off.
