I've finally come up with a good idea for a new IP. Essentially it's going to be a Warhammer 40K-style grimdark space epic. I'm in the process of writing the lore for the various factions so that I have a solid base to build upon and can write cohesive and non-contradictory stories using it. That should take about a year or two if I work on it in my free time. After that, I can begin writing books. If the books do well, I hope to expand the franchise to include a tabletop war game (which is really the main goal). That's probably years down the road, though.
One thing I want to avoid doing is focusing too much on the human factions and overdeveloping them at the expense of underdeveloping the nonhuman factions (Warhammer 40K has a bad habit of doing that), so I'm trying to focus on all factions equally. I know what I've said so far is really vague, but I can't say much more about it because it's still in early development and I don't have anything copyrighted yet. Hopefully this will all work out and enable me to quit my retail job in a few years or so. That would make me very happy.
Final Fantasy VII is being remade, all's right with the world.
