Basically. The game itself is innocuous, but it's kinda the "fast food" of gaming. Super basic and very ubiquitous as a result. So the fact that some gamers are drawing lines in the sand over or are otherwise extremely obsessed over it is kinda weird.

The comments I saw were about how younger players were suckered into excessive microtransaction payments. The game took over $1bn in the first year.

Yeah, as far as I know Fortnite has costumes and dances and stuff that you can buy for your characters. Nothing that big or game-changing really, just a lot of really shiny stuff that costs money. I've never played the game, so I don't know too much beyond that.

Not quite. Those pictures are by Louis Wain, when he was in a lunatic asylum. But he wasn't asked to draw them - he was an artist who'd always drawn cats, usually anthropomorphic, but became more experimental later in life. I had a book of poetry illustrated by him when I was young.
