I actually have the PS1 release of FF IX, which friends got me for a birthday, and I have yet to play it.
For those who don't know, PAL PS1 games run slower than other versions.
Can you increase the speed like you can in FF VII and VIII?
Although VIII, even with the speed maxed out was somehow really slow.

Yeah, I've watched some videos. I've become spoiled. I can't handle the slow tempo of VIII/IX anymore, lol. I don't even think a speed-up option would help, since I don't think that would make it any more fun.
It also always struck me as weird, because the ATB has become a farce in those games, as the Action element would be totally lost, since you have loads of time to think during the long animations.

Slightly off-topic, but tangentially related: I'm still not sure if I want Dragon Quest IX for exactly that reason. The game looks AMAZING, but the fight system is not really my cup of tea...

^ A little clipping there, but no biggie.

Anyone play FFXIV?
Since I've been absent I've played it quite a bit, currently learning to do the savage content, can get clears from 05s and 06s no problem. But I've been very unlucky with trying to clear 07s.... and lets not get started about Kefka.

So, uh. I'm writing a fanfic about my favorite and first FF from way back in '97 (cough: :buster_sword: ). I'm just wondering if this thread is active enough that I should post an AO3 link once it's finished? (CloTi and Zerith shipping in it because I've loved them from Day 1. I don't have a problem with Compilation of FF7 in theory, but my little fic ignores all that to zone in on Post-game.)

On that note, I highly recommend all FF7 fans check out the Beacause fan translation if you haven't. It 100% clarifies important plot points since the PSX translation sadly suffered from 1 guy looking at notes of Japanese text with no other context. (That's my understanding, at least.)

Replaying FFVII really emphasized, too, how it was going to be the same game as Xenogears before both games became their own. The main character having an identity crisis and his child self as "the coward" (Fei's words) being the voice of reason...

Do explain...
I'm currently in a self-made crusade through all of the Final Fantasy games... What about that translation? For when I replay FF7... :emogendo:

Cloud thankfully looks better.
Still not sold at all.
But happy for those hyped.

OG fan from '97 here, this hype train we're on makes no stops :toothy:

@Seele-01: The Beacause fan translation is great in that (as the name implies) it fixes confusing plot-related points since the original VII translation was one guy working with no context lines fed to him at a time. Exactly why we ended up with such gems as "Beacause, you are a puppet" and "This guy are sick" On the flip side, the PC version of the translation mod lets you keep the original game character names too, which I recommend because some of their choices were plain weird. ("Aeris" was always meant to be "Aerith" because the programmers improperly coded it into her Name Input Box, but "Leno" for "Reno"?! :uhh: Nope.)

About the trailer:

What's got me puzzled is a small number of hardcore-otaku Japanese fans apparently hate Aerith's look because she's "too western" (lolwut). When you contrast her Remake model (22 years old) with her Crisis Core model (16), she's an older version...exactly how she should look. But, the majority of fans love Aerith's Remake look, thank goodness. I really liked Cloud's 2015 look since his sickly appearance fits various plot reasons (no spoilers here), but hey, he looks great in the updated version so I'm not complaining!

On the other side of things, already fans are seemingly worried about Tifa's boobs, but she looked 100% perfect in her various CG renders in Advent Children and Dissidia 12 (plus her VII character sheet has her measurements, seems like she's a C cup?).

I'm not too worried since I'm sure both Aerith and Tifa will look great! As long as Cloud and Tifa to have their plot-related shoulder/chest scars (and Aerith with occasionally visible white Materia in her hair!), I'll be happy.

From what little we know about the PS5 so far, seemingly VIIRemake is going to be a PS4 title with everything "prettied up" for the 5 once it's out? Especially considering we don't have the proper details yet, if VIIRemake is going to be a 2-parter with DLC, or what exact plans they have for it yet.

Can't wait to see a Tifa reveal at either FFVII's L.A. Concert or next day during E3 :boingy:

Yeah I really don't get it. "She looks way older than CC!" Because she is older than CC! She's ALWAYS been 22 in FF7, not every female protag is 15 or younger you dips! Get over it lol.
I mean, predictability is the central attraction and the narrative hook that we've all come to expect from the Evangelion franchise. How come Anno can't realize this? Twice? - FreakyFilmFan4ever

Right? lol. Thankfully it seemed to be a small minority of folks that had a problem (you know how the vocal minority is with anything), so hopefully that means they won't change anything. It feels like with VII projects especially, Squenix does what they want creatively

One of the things I especially loved about VII is the fact that Cloud, Tifa, and Aerith were early 20 year olds. Alongside VII's various plot swerves, that was a refreshing change from your usual teenage hero video game/anime protagonists.

I may be remembering wrong, but I read an article on ANN about the PS5 that stated when the new system is released, any launch titles the system has will have matching PS4 releases. I like to think that FFVII will be one of those titles, but I can't say for sure.

*Nodding* My memory's fuzzy but I do recall some PS3 titles that almost immediately (so to speak) had PS4 releases as well, so that's definitely possible.

I'm pretty sure ANN's an accurate source, though I 100% recommend https://gematsu.com/tag/final-fantasy-vii-remake for news because there's so much incorrect clickbait articles/Youtube videos out there. There's also https://thelifestream.net/(Sorta like the Evageeks of big VII news??) to keep updated  It simply frustrates me as a fan, same with incorrect info out there regarding Eva.

And actually, here we go. VII Remake is indeed still multipart: https://gematsu.com/2019/05/final-fanta ... art-series

This is the guy that leaked May State of Play = new Remake trailer, so I think we're in good hands, haha:

Everyone's so impatient these days, though I guess it is the social media age  Since Nomura and co were understandably pissed that a fan uploaded KH3's ReMind DLC trailer (from last night's KH Concert) enough for Squenix to upload rather than wait until Monday, maybe an "early" full Remake trailer upload's likely?

Hoping tomorrow night we'll get a proper Remake E3 presentation with price point(s), release date, etc. Looking forward to meeting TIfa and everyone again! :buster_sword:

To be fair, putting a full trailer behind tickets to a limited concert that will only happen in one city is a *insert word for "not necessarily bad and understandable, but kinda annoying for fans, given the hype and following the game has"* move...

IMO it's incredibly smart marketing for KH and FFVII both, but I do understand the fan annoyance with that E3 time-slot literally tomorrow

So FFVII Remake (at least part 1) might be coming before Shin Eva.
I really didn't think this was even a possibility some months ago.

Edit:
Here's the concert trailer.
https://youtu.be/T2zTJGOreFc

Gotta say, not a fan of the direction personally. For example don't like (trailer spoiler)
SPOILER: Show
the beautiful Aeris flower scene becoming an action set piece.

But I'm super happy for those who like it.
