Is Hideaki Anno the Japanese Kurt Cobain?

After having watched The End of Evangelion and taking a look on Hideaki Anno's history, I brought myself to the question if Hideaki Anno is the Japanese equivalent of Kurt Cobain, especially when you consider that both were loners in their youth with a passion for their respective mediums (art for Anno and music for Cobain), have struggled with depression across their lives, and that their works pretty much reflect their lives.

Anno has profoundly better taste in romantic partners.

You can swap out Kurt Cobain with pretty much any artist that has ever struggled with depression.

Is Hideaki Anno the Japanese Chester Bennington?
Is Hideaki Anno the Japanese Vincent van Gogh?
Is Hideaki Anno the Japanese Edgar Allan Poe?

The better question is, "Is Hideaki Anno the Japanese George Lucas?".

Probably Kurt Cobain and those 3 in terms of personality and life, George Lucas in terms of the impact of his works on the industry and medium at large, and Gene Ray in terms of being a luminary (that is, acting as a symbol of the powers, opportunities, and dangers of the Information Age, where the newest celebrities can come from the most unexpected of places).

Sounds like you should watch the video I linked out. There are some pretty loaded assertions there that can't go without comment.

I see now, though I still also see similarities between Anno and those 4+ guys with depression and Gene Ray.

Speaking of comparing Anno to Lucas, I'd also like to mention that Anno could also be compared to Chris Roberts of Wing Commander fame, especially considering how long Star Citizen and the Rebuilds have been taking. This video does a pretty good job explaining the history of Star Citizen.
