How could someone even make a knife that gargantuan, it seems like it would cost trillions of dollars. Also, how long would it take to create such a thing, months, or even years?

Even so I would imagine it wouldn't cost nearly as much in time or money as an Eva. TBH after building multiple Eva units, I'm not sure anyone in the Evangelion universe is concerned with cost.

As for what the actual cost would be or how long it would take, I have no idea. But it would seem that it might be expensive.

The cost for a prog knife - or any Eva weapon for that matter - would be enormous. The material alone would cost a small fortune, ensuring that everything works would require ultra high precision engineering and extremely pure metals, and let's not even talk about
the ammo costs on the guns. But yes, the costs for an actual Eva would still tower over all equipment costs

Just revisiting the cost of the Eva: while rewatching episode 2 during Gendo's meeting with the other 5 leader's including Kiel about instrumentality, they mention that the cost of the Eva was enough to bankrupt a nation. That's not much of a clarification in terms of exact figures but it does narrow down the price point slightly to give an idea of how expensive the Eva is. Although this doesn't have much to do with the Progressive Knife and it's cost, it was still kind of interesting and seemed worth mentioning.

My point. If someone can afford building an Eva, the cost of losing a prog knife is fairly insignificant in comparison
