Re: Currently playing 4: Guns of the Patriots
So right now I'm sort of past the mid point of the Half Life 2 saga, like, I'm in Chapter 4 of Episode One. Vanilla HL2 is fuckin amazing, it's currently my favorite Valve game, tied with Portal 2. Episode One is good so far, but nowhere near as engrossing and compelling as HL2. It seems to be much more focused on gameplay than story, which I would likely be totally down with if I were more of an FPS guy, but as can be seen with my less than 20 hours combined time from both Half-Life Source and Blue Shift (both of which I got less than halfway in before saying fuck it and permanently turning on godmode). I remember I watched a let's play of the HL2 saga a few years ago but I don't remember anything from Episode One, I may have accidentally skipped it because of Valve's shit, Kingdom Hearts-esque naming scheme for the games. I'm glad though, because that means this is the first time I'm experiencing everything in a Valve game unspoiled by myself. For every other game I stupidly watched playthroughs because "Hurr durr I'll never have a computer powerful enough to run these games guhurrn"
On a side note, I'm currently watching Shammy's An Actual Review of The Surge, and I'm surprised that no one is pointing out the similarities to the Half-Life 2 saga; you begin riding on a train into a new place where you see a video of a representative of a big conglomerate who's definitely NOT evil being run by a man who shows up on broadcast screens throughout the game in prerecorded messages to 'subtly' deliver exposition and backstory on the fucked over post-apocalyptic but still tech-filled Blade Runner esque world and the plan that definitely DOES NOT involve causing humanity's extinction.

I'm the same with Episode One actually; I can't remember anything of it, if at all. I can recall only the one battle sequence where you're with Alyx underground, it's almost pitch-black and wave after wave of headcrab zombies attack you. That's seriously about all I can remember, whereas Episode Two is still freshly engraved on my memory, i.e. the open vistas and forests, the buggy, the battles, Combine Hunters, the buildings and villages, the mines, so on, so forth. Dang, I need to get around to playing them again.

Re: Currently playing 4: Guns of the Patriots
So I recently finished Episode Two and I'm still a bit fucked up over it. I had forgotten just how visceral and cold death is.
I got both Fahrenheit Indigo Prophecy Remastered and Deus Ex on Steam a few days ago in a sale. I tried to start Fahrenheit but it was just too damn depressing for right now in my life. I'll definitely revisit it at some point, but I don't feel like sending myself down that life-draining rabbit hole during my last few days of senior year and my first steps into the real world.
I did start playing The Desolate Room last night, and I'm really enjoying it. It's insanely impressive for a clearly amateur project made by one guy. Of course, the holes shine through here and there, most blatantly with the patched together landmasses making up the island, and with just how much damn grinding is straight up required, but the music, aesthetics, story, and atmosphere especially are all fantastic. I plan to start The Desolate Hope after I finish TDR, and I really hope The Desolate Abandon is returned to one day once Mr.Cawthon has drained the FNaF cow dry. Pizzeria Simulator was clearly the end of the story arc, wrapping everything up and finally, so it's definitely possible he's done with the series (although I doubt he'll stop production on merch, the man is too smart to just let so much money go).
SPOILER: Show

Re: Currently playing 4: Guns of the Patriots
I'm playing Mega Man 9 on MM Legacy Collection 2. It's a lot of fun but it's hard as shit and I don't feel like some of these deaths are fair. In particular the hitboxes on spikes seems to extend farther than it should and it seems like I get sucked in and killed without actually touching the thing.
Someday I hope that we'll be reunited if that is what's destined to be. Perhaps we'll discover that elusive bible. And then we will finally be free!

Re: Currently playing 4: Guns of the Patriots
Finished Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon completely. All trophies and endings. All in Veteran mode, naturally, my pride wouldn't let me pick the lower difficulty. That said, even at it's hardest moments, it still can't compare in difficulty to the old Castlevania games. What a great game, I'm sure it'll join the classics soon enough.
And the music, man, this game screams Castlevania in every aspect!
Only complaint I have is in regard to character graphics, they're nice, but feel a little simple compared to the wild bosses and environments. I guess I'd prefer Symphony of the Night style graphics over this NES style stuff.
10/10
Can't wait for the main Bloodstained game, even with its awkward 3d graphics.

I and four of my friends have been kinda addicted to Dead Cells for the past week or so. Can't wait for the full release in August!

Playing Nioh. This game is fucking hard and I love it. Just made it to the Kansai region. Favourite part so far is fighting/duelling Revenants.

I’m playing a mobile game called AzureLane because a weird, tasteless pseudo-retelling of Pearl Harbor with anime girl warships (some of whom are cat girls and fox girls) is the funniest fucking thing I’ve seen this year.

I am currently in the middle of a very fierce session of Elevator Action Returns for the Sega Saturn. I am also immersing myself in the colorful world of Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age which is an absolute treat for an old school gamer such as myself.
Next, I plan on replaying the classic Tactical Espionage Action: Metal Gear Solid: a Hideo Kojima Game, which I have not played for many long and lonesome years.

Re: Currently playing 4: Guns of the Patriots
After receiving a brand new PS2 controller in the mail, I popped in GTA: Vice City and have been making significant progress. I have managed to complete the Waste the Wife as well as the Demolition Man missions after lots of fails. You probably won't believe me but I believe chasing the wife all the way across town was much more difficult than handling a remote control chopper with a time limit no less.

And so Javert, you see it's true. This man bears no more guilt than you! Who am I? TWO-FOUR-SIX-OH-OOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNNEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!! - Jean Valjean (Les Miserables)

^ I loved GTA: San Andreas so much more. The world was so much larger, and honestly some of those missions were ridiculous, no matter how good you were (like that fucking train mission early on............)
I played Vice City Stories too, similar aesthetic (go 80s), though it was for the PSP, so the game worked a little different than on a console.

Voted in college to be Most likely to Take Over the World, how to do that however, will require at least Four Evangelions. Thanks for the idea Misato-san!

Oh yeah, totally forgot about Vice City Stories.
Also, I'm sure that San Andreas is the much better game (I wouldn't know since I've never played it), I was just referring to the aesthetic.
San Andreas' 90s vibe is great too, though.
As much as I enjoyed GTAV, I kinda wish Rockstar would return to a more stylised, graphical style for the next installment... Though looking at Red Dead Redemption 2, that might be a pipe dream.

Re: Currently playing 4: Guns of the Patriots
Gradius II Interstellar Assault: Game from my childhood that I never managed to beat back then. It's know as one of the easier Gradius games, and with good reason. I can't even beat the second stage of Gradius III.
The game is more beloved for the things it does differently from other Gradius games:
-Stage transitions, almost non existing in other games, here there is an unique transition for every stage: fleeing from an enemy ship, being captured, entering a planets atmosphere, all very impressive for a tiny gameboy game.
-The music isn't just good, it never repeats, there is a unique track for every stage and boss, witch again, rarely happens in other games of the series.
-Good graphics considering it's a gameboy game
It's just a really good game all around.
Castlevania : Belmonts Revenge: Another game I couldn't beat until today, mostly because of the last two bosses, witch are insane difficulty spikes compared to the rest of the game. Thankfully, it has a continue function, otherwise I would have been driven insane. Pretty happy to have finally beaten these two games.
Also, Praying Hands is one of the best music tracks in the Castlevania series and that's saying something!
---
Red Dead Redemption 2: How much are you willing to bear for a good story? Because this game tests the hell out of your patience. Horse ride after ride all leading to the same three or so missions repeated a hundred times. The first game also suffered from this but at least it wasn't this long.
Someone really has to go tell Rockstar you can have a good story and good gameplay at the same time, because they clearly don't know that.

Belmont's Revenge is one of those last gaps in my classic Castlevania collection that I still need to fill, I've heard good things. I'm not sure about Praying Hands in relation to the rest of the games, as there are some good pieces, but that's definitely not a bad track, even with the Game Boy's limitations. Four bits really is not much to work with.
As for me...
I got Trauma Center: Under the Knife for Christmas, which I previously played on the Wii. I thought it would be easier with a stylus, but I think they dropped the difficulty down quite a bit for the Wii release. Some of these operations are a real chore. Still, love this game, definitely want to grab the rest of the games in the series.

Re: Currently playing 4: Guns of the Patriots
I "played" (it's a visual novel with only three choices) Urobuchi's Saya no Uta.
It is without a doubt the most fucked up story I have experienced, to the point I had a despersonalisation episode with one scene lol. (After which I almost dropped the game)
HUGE warning for very disturbing, graphic sexual content.
As with every Urobuchi work I've experienced, there are things I just fundamentally disagree with, and in his pursuit of darkness he sometimes reaches ridiculous scenarios.
I will say though, the concept of the game, and especially the first scene, are absolutely genius. Wouldn't say that about the game as a whole. And honestly, I was too shocked by it to form a coherent opinion.
Soundtrack is awesome. Sabbath is sleep-inducingly relaxing and Schizophrenia is the ultimate hope annihilator, perfect track for psychological horror.

Got my Shenmue I and II Collection PS4 game in the mail recently and have been playing the first part. So what exactly happens if you don't get back to the dojo by midnight? Because I had to hightail it back in the nick of time to save my progress. One thing I haven't done is find the old lady in the park so I can guide her to the Yamamoto house which I found but cannot seem to find her.

Re: Currently playing 4: Guns of the Patriots
My friend is super jazzed about Resident Evil 2. I'm not terribly familiar with the series so I decided to pick up the PC version of Resident Evil HD. My friend's been kind enough to help me through the game so far.
I'm about halfway through Chris's campaign and I have mixed feelings so far. Visually the game is excellent. The characters and backgrounds both look great overall. The environments and minimal soundtrack do an amazing job building tension.
Mechanically...being entirely honest here, the game plays like complete ass. The port is just fine, but it feels like the game designers reveled in making everything as tedious and unintuitive as it could possibly be. I quickly abandoned the 'classic' tank controls for the more normal 'alternative' controls and I still find myself getting fed up with the constant backtracking to juggle your tiny inventory. I can't imagine doing this with only the old controls. I'd have quit within the first hour.
My friend thinks I might have more fun playing as Jill. Guess I'll see soon.

Yeah old RE games dont hold up really well. I would recomend RE 4, 7 and the remake tho.
