So you know how in 2011 it was announced that ADV was suing Gainax due to them not getting the rights to make a Live action eva films, long story short, from what I understand, Adv gives Gainax $100,000 as there contribution to the budget, since there wasn't an estimated budget to begin with, Gainax decides not to make a live action movie, sends back the $100,000 Adv complains about missing a big opportunity, and sues, fighting for the rights of Eva live actions films

Soooo, is there even a possibility of there being a live action film at all? In the near future, I can't find anything past 2013 about it, and theres always the occasional (so, and so) is making a Eva film, yet if there still fighting for the rights, from what I understand, will there ever be a possibility of a live action eva film in the next 5+ years?

ADV no longer exists and Gainax hasn't had the rights to Eva for several years now, so I assume that ship has not only sailed, it's been sunk to the bottom of the ocean.

Anno's talked about opening up the franchise to other directors, so a live action version coming out of Japan would probably happen much sooner than a Hollywood bastardization.

Yeah, hopefully, getting a live action from an unknown company in Japan seems more promising than getting a rehash of transformers, with nothing that makes evangelion evangelion, only keeping the basic plot and characters

ADV Films' project is dead. It's questionable as to whether ADV Films even still exists, and Gainax no longer has the rights to Evangelion. Rebuild filled that void, and the real question is what will come after. Something tells me it won't be live action, but I thought the live action Battle Angel film was also dead, but well... we have that to look forward to.

Any live action adaptation of Evangelion would almost certainly be terrible. Given the fact that the most important and celebrated things about Evangelion are its characters and interpersonal/intrapersonal drama, they would need a truly talented and visionary director who knows how to handle adaptations with a heavy emphasis on characters on the scale of Stanley Kubrick or Akira Kurosawa.

Any attempt to exploit the property as another Giant Mecha Action Epic, would miss the entire message of the series and be a complete and utter failure.

Also, the fact that the recent Ghost in the Shell movie was a flop domestically and internationally is going to severely lessen the likelihood for more big-budget live action anime adaptations (I happen to think that the Cameron/Rodriguez Alita adaptation is going to flop massively as well). GITS's budget was reportedly $110 million. A live action Evangelion film would need nearly AT LEAST that much money if not more.
Among the people who use the Internet, many are obtuse. Because they are locked in their rooms, they hang on to that vision which is spreading across the world. But this does not go beyond mere ‘data’. Data without analysis [thinking], which makes you think that you know everything. This complacency is nothing but a trap. Moreover, the sense of values that counters this notion is paralyzed by it.

And so we arrive at demagogy. - Hideaki Anno, 1996

Well, I also brought this up because I read a Giznodo article (yeah, the information could be mistranslated, or misinterpreted) but it was talking about how a Korean site interviewed Michael Bay and his plans with moving forward after he finished the live action tmnt movies, and that he was interested in making a live action Evangelion movie, which makes me pretty nerv-ous if that was to happen, Michael Bay turned Transformers from a children's action show to a stupid drawn out series, with the same villain throughout the entire trilogy, and turned the TMNT from action fighting teens to uncanny valley turtles that act way too much like humans, which makes ir offer, I hope if anyone directs an evangelion movie it isn't Michael Bay

This should quell your worries.

I remember tweeting Michael Bay at the time asking him to formally deny the rumor. The rumor was seemingly generated by a K-Drama website that had a formula whereby they would write up clickbait articles that cited other sites (that don't exist) citing events that didn't happen.

Good times.

I remember back when Pacific Rim first came out and people were saying it was basically a live action Eva movie, sometimes painfully stretching the small similarities to make it seem like that was the case.

Then Uprising came out and the writers apparently took that sentiment to heart, because that film has far more similarities to Eva and in ways that do NOT seem accidental. It's like they said "People seem to insist we're making a live action Eva, so fuck it, let's give them what they clearly want." For the time being, that'll likely have to do.

Beyond that, I'm not sure I WANT a live action Eva film. We'd either end up with Tokusatsu stuff that would look too hokey for the serious subject matter, or a CGIfest that would make people wonder why they'd bother with "live action". A fully CGI movie like Resident Evil Degeneration or FFVII Advent Children? Sure, I'd swallow that like an NSFW simile. But I don't see any need to get live action involved.

Shin Godzilla had Tokusatsu and told a very serious story. Then again, my not into that kinda stuff friends found that hilarious and couldn't take Godzilla seriously because of it.

Shin Godzilla at least has the fact he's a fairly slow-moving entity with little dynamic range outside his tail, and is fairly bulky. Evangelion Units are wire thin and have to do a lot more physical stuff, and when that happens Tokusatsu gets stretched to truly goofy levels.

Plus Shin Godzilla actually used CGI for several scenes of the creature. And my comment wasn't that Tokusatsu can't be serious, but that the visual side often produces unintentionally funny scenes that betray the serious story.

Someone needs to watch Gamera 3: Revenge of Iris. That's one of the most compelling Tokusatsu films ever made featuring quick-moving creatures.
