Re-playing P5 since it recently got the Best RPG of 2017 award, got me hyped again. Trying to do a max social link run of the game. Also will be on the lookout this time around to spot areas of the narrative which could be expanded on the inevitable "golden" re-make down the road

Re: Currently playing 4: Guns of the Patriots
I'm playing Final Fantasy 12, and I'm really having trouble with this one boss, I think Mateus was its name. No matter what I do, I can't beat it. I can get close, but I run out of gas before it does. Ugh...

Re: Currently playing 4: Guns of the Patriots
On my most recent playthrough, Mateus was giving me some issues too. I left the dungeon and started doing hunts to grind, as some new ones should have become available. The shops at Mt. Bur-Omisace should have also updated too when you started the Stilshrine of Miriam dungeon, so you can always go there to upgrade your equipment (yes, the stores change between the time you first arrive at the mountain, and before you finish the Stilshrine). I recommend doing some of those hunts, which should provide more than enough experience to get you past Mateus. Luckily, the way the dungeon is designed makes it easy to exit and come back once you're prepared to face the boss. In just a couple more story beats, you're going to be free to do a lot of exploration and sidequests. I recommend completing as many sidequests as possible if you're having trouble with the story, and always, ALWAYS, improve upon your gambits when possible.
If you have anymore questions and issues with XII, feel free to contact me about it. I'm still very much obsessed with it, and would love to help out in any way I can. Sharing the joy!

Re: Currently playing 4: Guns of the Patriots
Persona 5 is such a fantastic game. I've played it obsessively for two weeks, before Real Life came back around... I've stopped just before the final Dungeon, too. What a bad place to stop, lol. Revisiting it now with a fresh New Game+ would have been perfect, lol.
Then again, I've stopped Persona 3 mid December (in-game) and Persona 4 after an especially frustrating defeat in Naoto Dungeon.
Right now, I'm experiencing the Magic that is Breath of the Wild. What a fantastic game. The only issue I have with it, that it feels emotionally distant.
Nier: Automata, Persona 5, Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey... This year was as outstanding for games as it was underwhelming for Anime, lol.

Re: Currently playing 4: Guns of the Patriots
Been really into From Software for the past year. Played Bloodborne last winter and Dark Souls after that. Since the servers for Demon's Souls are shutting down in February I decided to start it now, and I'm enjoying it so far. It's fun recognizing all the assets in this game that they reused for DS1 later. I couldn't even get past the first level when I first tried Demon's Souls a few years back, so I'm really happy with how quickly I'm progressing now.

Re: Currently playing 4: Guns of the Patriots
^I bought the stealthy Sheikah gear pretty early, so I've had no trouble sneaking up on horses...
Experienced some shenanigans when I returned to my fully-furnished house in Hateno Village after a long trek; not only was the front door missing, but the royal sword and bow I'd been storing for a rainy day were gone too.
My first reaction was: I've been robbed! Sons of bitches!
Then it was: I've been robbed... neat. Time for a side quest= find the burglars, right?
Turns out the game simply hadn't loaded everything fast enough. Everything popped back into existence eventually. I was mildly disappointed.
Hit the "Jump up, Superstar" segment of Mario Odyssey. That was jolly.
Still playing Bomberman R occasionally. It's no exaggeration to say I'm one of the best players in the world at its online multiplayer; but considering there's still only a dozen regular players in the world...
Wonder what'll happen to that number when paid-online kicks in. Smash Bros. Switch will need to be released before I even think about signing on to that.

Re: Currently playing 4: Guns of the Patriots
I suck at stealth missions. They always make me so anxious and my heart beat and my guts shrivel up. Which is great in a horror game, not so much in a Fantasy game. Especially when so far when I've been mostly been able to solve my problems by either sniping them and whittling down their health from a long distance. Or Just stocking up on heart boost potions and meals whenever I'm fighting a Lynel or Mokublin, and whaling on them with the biggest club I've got without having to think about it too much.
Side note. I went back up the Mountain in the Zora Domain armed with the Sheikah Arrow I got from Beedle, and I One shotted that Lynel that gave me so much trouble at the start of the game. THAT was satisfying to no end.

Thunderblight Ganon is an effing BEAST. I must have died twenty times before I finally beat the bastard. Ate through six of the One-Shot kill arrows and over half of my inventory of Blunt weapons before I put him down.

I completed Final Fantasy XII, but why does my system say that I'm only at 27% finished?

Re: Currently playing 4: Guns of the Patriots
Is that 27% of the acheivements? Did you only do the story? The hunts make up quite a bit of the sidequests, and then there's collecting all the espers.
Re: Currently playing 4: Guns of the Patriots
I'm enjoying the updated Ch14 of FFXV. The expanded Insomnia is great. Hope they give this treatment to other areas of the game and make them bigger.

Yes I completed the story. I did some of the hunts, but not all of them. I guess that makes sense. It's a good game though.

Re: Currently playing 4: Guns of the Patriots
-Just finished up on the Secret of Mana remake on PS4. Frequent crashing aside (though the autosave helps), this is a decent 1:1 remake. The RNG on some of those late-game drops (equipment/weapon orbs) was a right pain in the ass, but I managed to get the platinum trophy. Good times.
-Picked back up on Bloodborne, seeing as it was a free game this month (I already own a physical copy, but whatever). Still a tossup on whether this or DS3 is my favorite of the Soulsborne games, but I think I like this game's aesthetics more. I like the higher focus on aggression, too.
EDIT: Add on Far Cry 5 and Dark Souls III: The Fire Fades Edition to that list, too. Both have had me and Ash hooked (again, in my case, for DS3) for the last week or so.

Re: Currently playing 4: Guns of the Patriots
Axiom Verge: Bought this for PS4 for a cheap price with high expectations and they were kind of met? The game play is fun, by the the end of the game you can basically fly through the map, which is super satisfying, the soundtrack is this fun electronic sound and the story is unobtrusive, but satisfying.
Still, the bosses are a joke, they're very pretty, some of the best visual of the game are in the bosses, but they have just a couple of attacks that are easy to dodge...until you get near the end, where super fast dodging suddenly becomes a necessity. There's no difficulty curve at all. It's even more jarring because the rest of the game isn't like this at all. It's hard to believe the same guy did everything. I also don't know how to feel about the aesthetics. It's very Metroid, probably? As a kid I only played Castlevanias, so these weird alien environments are new to me, and I don't know how much I really like it.
These minor complaints can't sour what is ultimately a wonderful Metroidvania experience in an age where those sorts of games aren't all that common anymore.

Re: Currently playing 4: Guns of the Patriots
I've been playing Tekken 7 almost religiously on PS4 since launch last year. Sadly, somehow it's become corrupt on my profile after a power outage incident. I've tried reinstalling the game completely a couple times, scrapping my save file(s), everything, save reformatting the entire machine from scratch, which I'm reticent to do as everything else works fine. So, I got a Steam/Windows copy. The only hitch; my laptop is a piece of shit and even had a hard time trying to run Medieval II: Total War not long ago...

Re: Currently playing 4: Guns of the Patriots
That's a pretty fuckin radical avatar, Blue Monday. I should really finish Cowboy Bebop one of these days.
Right now I'm very slowly working my way through the campaign of Anarchy Reigns [this is like the one time I prefer a US localized name to the original Japanese one, both because it's cooler and it works as an oxymoron]. I've never played Madworld but I might have to find myself a copy if Anarchy Reigns' ridiculously fun combat is anything to go off of. It's taking me so long to progress because you have to essentially grind points by doing side missions to unlock story missions to advance, but also because even once I have all three story missions in an area unlocked, I still want to keep running around and chainsawing dudes in half because it's just so fun and satisfying. This is one of those games like Super Mario Odyssey or Sonic Adventure where even just moving around in the world with no real objective is fun because of how tight and responsive the controls are, and how they work with the area design to give everything a feeling of flow.

Re: Currently playing 4: Guns of the Patriots
Started a Half-Life marathon recently upon getting a new laptop that can actually run things, and "finished" Source last night. I never beat the original Half-Life despite owning it since I hated the combat, but upon turning on godmode, my enjoyment skyrocketed. Nihilanth was still annoying as hell, I have no idea how you'd even survive Xen without godmode. I'm currently watching a playthrough of the unavailable demo, Half-Life: Uplink, and will start Blue Shift tonight, this time really trying to get through without godmode.

Re: Currently playing 4: Guns of the Patriots
Hey, I just replayed Half-Life 2 only a few weeks ago
It's only the second time I've gone through it but I find that game really peaceful; just the ambience, the world, the vibe. It's all pretty cozy. It really is an "ambient shooter". I'll have to get around to playing Episode One and Episode Two sometime soon as well.
I sincerely hope the fan project to create Marc Laidlaw's version of Episode Three in Unreal Engine 4 gains traction, because I honestly believe we may never seen a continuation/finish to the story otherwise. I don't know why they don't just use Source Engine though, it'd be quicker and fool-proof, seeing as it's more common, been around longer and knowledge of it is more widespread.
Thanks, yeah it's a good'un

Re: Currently playing 4: Guns of the Patriots
So right now I'm sort of past the mid point of the Half Life 2 saga, like, I'm in Chapter 4 of Episode One. Vanilla HL2 is fuckin amazing, it's currently my favorite Valve game, tied with Portal 2. Episode One is good so far, but nowhere near as engrossing and compelling as HL2. It seems to be much more focused on gameplay than story, which I would likely be totally down with if I were more of an FPS guy, but as can be seen with my less than 20 hours combined time from both Half-Life Source and Blue Shift (both of which I got less than halfway in before saying fuck it and permanently turning on godmode). I remember I watched a let's play of the HL2 saga a few years ago but I don't remember anything from Episode One, I may have accidentally skipped it because of Valve's shit, Kingdom Hearts-esque naming scheme for the games. I'm glad though, because that means this is the first time I'm experiencing everything in a Valve game unspoiled by myself. For every other game I stupidly watched playthroughs because "Hurr durr I'll never have a computer powerful enough to run these games guhurrn"
On a side note, I'm currently watching Shammy's An Actual Review of The Surge, and I'm surprised that no one is pointing out the similarities to the Half-Life 2 saga; you begin riding on a train into a new place where you see a video of a representative of a big conglomerate who's definitely NOT evil being run by a man who shows up on broadcast screens throughout the game in prerecorded messages to 'subtly' deliver exposition and backstory on the fucked over post-apocalyptic but still tech-filled Blade Runner esque world and the plan that definitely DOES NOT involve causing humanity's extinction.
