I found this post I've been looking around for, for a while.

Why do 90's anime girls look so much better than 2000's anime girls?

Cherry picking to the max.

How old is that post. Complaints about shading? In 2018? Did none of these people actually watch anime from the 80's and 90's? Any kind of shading is absent in most of them!

Also, I can't believe they mention proportions when the 90's gave us some of the most ugly faces in anime.

And they also mention moe and one dimensional female characters, of course.

The nostalgia googles that person is using must be of excellent quality.

I can't off-hand locate the "K-On! through the decades" picture which would be the appropriate riposte, so I'll just point at this epitome of '90s style which is used in that picture. Or we can just point at something slightly more objective.

What I want to know is why do anime studios feel a size E cup size is appropriate for a 14 year old?

Some people look at giant boobs and ask why, some people look at not giant boobs and ask, why not.

"Small" breasts on a typical anime girl are already wildly out of proportion for an actual human being, might as well commit to it. Go big or go home.

Also for the sake of being a miserable pedant, the boobs ya'll are calling e-cup are way, way bigger than an actual e-cup. Cup size is a measurement of proportion, not absolute tit volume.

Also,

Why did Walt Disney draw a mouse with human characteristics?
The answer to those questions is not the same, but it comes from the same place. Because they don't think of it as a human being, they think of it as a cartoon.
I recommend reading the Moe Manifesto, if you're interested in how the creator side of "Otaku" stuff thinks about Anime-girls.

Japanese culture is generally more open to the idea of sexuality in media, as opposed to the puritan influenced media from the U.S. They think of media as media, not as something that defines real life - especially in (originally) fringe cultures as late night anime otaku.

I recall a previous iteration of this complaint where the general response was along the lines of "Did you never have that girl in your class at school?".

Unless you're watching a show heavily focused on fanservice, it's very rarely all the girls.Take a quick look at last season or even this one and check the girls. Watch shows have high amounts of girls with large tits?

Quite. Ray should name some names here.

The original complaint seemed to be calling out phenomena like Tougou's megalopolis, where there's oppai monster who stands out from the rest of the cast. There may not even be that token boob demon if the characters are all high-school students.

I still agree with the post in this regard.

http://custodialghost.tumblr.com/post/168366581904/persefones-glitchmeow-anime-why-do-anime wrote:anime girls have lost much of their visible personality over the years due to moefication. This has happened to male characters also, although to a lesser extent. Anime girls are often not allowed to make cartoonish expressions (deemed unattractive) or generally change their expressions at all barring blush lines. In producers’ efforts to make the girls attractive to the audience in every frame, they sacrifice any personality that they might have. Anime girls look increasingly similar to one another, differentiated only by their hair style and eyes. Granted, there has always been a problem with female character same-face syndrome since the conception of anime (actually, in all drawn media) but as the number of female main characters in anime has grown (Ray: and the technology has improved), ironically, the problem has only increased.

Here we have three anime girls with the same hair color you can tell apart, and several anime characters with the same haircolor you somehow can't.

So I added the link that was missing.

And, oh boy where do I start, beyond saying that the author of that piece should seriously watch more anime?

I especially liked

> Here we have three anime girls with the same hair color you can tell apart
because three very different artists and art styles

>, And somehow, girls with all different colors that you can’t.
Which shows the girls from Higurashi, who themselves put the lie to the earlier assertion that

>Anime girls are often not allowed to ... change their expressions at all barring blush lines

Tumblr posts look like someone sat down and said, "You know what our social platform needs? The readability Twitter and the design flexibility of MySpace."

Also it's easy to tell those girls apart. I don't even need to know what show they come from. The blonde one with the big tits is the compassionate and spunky protagonist who doesn't understand her sex appeal, the one with hair the color of salmon meat is her angsty rival, and the skinny one is an obnoxious bitch that's constantly hoisted by her own petard for comic relief because only girls with big busts can feel good about themselves.

There was actually a chapter of ''Franken Fran'' than had pretty much that exact image as the punchline. Basically, a cosplayer wants to look exactly like her favorite anime character, so she goes to the title character (a surgeon who can do anything, pretty much) to get her body changed. But the procedure goes wrong, her hair falls out and in the end she's mistaken for an alien.
Life can seem a challenge. Life can seem impossible. It's never easy when so much is on the line.

So, you took an argument from an episodic show about another episodic show and how episodic shows are bad, and applied it to yet another episodic show, without really distancing yourself from the episodic show from which the argument originated.

...Okay.

That manga was effed up.

How effed up was it? There was a whole chapter about a bunch of perverts who get turned on by near death experiences exploiting Fran to bring them back from the dead. IT ends with Fran.

SPOILER: Show
Stitching their bodies together into a congealed John Carpenter-esque mass so they are always on the brink of death and in constant pain.

Repeatedly, until dead.

Seriously though, i feel bad for people who watched Zero without reading the VN and are waiting for the Heaven's Feel movies. All the earthshattering plot twists in the route are just casually mentioned in Zero, removing much of the drama from the best route of the VN.

DBZ is absolute garbage, but Kai was able to somewhat salvage it
Attack on Titan is visually bland, and the lack of colours other than brown, white, red and the occasional greens and blues outside the city make it boring to watch (although now that I'm typing this, it makes me think maybe this was done on purpose, make the city visually bland, and the outside exciting and beautiful, so viewers can empathize with wanting to take it back from the Titans
Gurren Lagann was hype as fuck, but besides the final battle against the Anti Spiral, the second half was bland and forgettable.
Afro Samurai, P&SwG, and Hajimete no Gal are the only dubs anyone should ever watch legitimately, to me, dubs are more like a comedic, terrible way to watch a show or movie after an initial viewing
I still think "*western-made children's comedy* is my favorite anime" jokes are funny
I couldn't get past the second Jojo story arc, the first was fine as it's own self-contained narrative
Evangelion Break is the best of the New Theatrical Evangelion films (as of 2018)
The two Sonic the Hedgehog OVAs made in the 90s were really fun to watch
I much prefer the gritty, hand-drawn cel animation of the 90s to the clean, calculated computer-aided animation of today
Devilman is terrible and the pacing is super rushed, Anno made a better narrative using similar concepts
WALL-E is best girl
*injects Angel blood* I know what the fuck an EVA is now :)
