Disney may in part be doing this out of concern that Comcast may try to acquire them, out pressure on them with their broadcast and internet access arm.

Didn't they try to do exactly that in 2004? And get turned down?
Anyway, if you don't mind me making a wild-ass guess, I think Disney's next big acquisition is going to be. . . Sega. Here's why:
Here's why:

1. While Nintendo has become closely connected to Comcast/Universal lately, Sega has no particular affiliation to any other major corporation. It could easily be picked up by any company with enough cash without having to worry about pre-existing partnerships.

2. Out of all the guest-star video game characters in Wreck-it Ralph (Disney's movie about video games), the one who got the most promotion by far was Sega's mascot, Sonic the Hedgehog. Eggman, Tails, and one of the zombies from House of the Dead also appear in the movie, whereas only one Nintendo character, Bowser, is shown. Ralph himself even appeared in Sonic All Stars Racing Transformed.

3. Disney seems to have a habit of acquiring corporations that are falling behind in popularity and giving them a new lease on life. When they bought Lucasfilm, it hadn't really been relevant as a film studio for years. When they bought Marvel, it was in second place in the superhero sweepstakes--DC was ruling the roost with the Dark Knight movies. Sega is in the same boat. It used to be Nintendo's arch-rival, but now it's just a content producer.

4. Universal Studios is going to be adding a Nintendo area to their theme park, with rides based on Super Mario Bros. games. What better way for Disney to compete than to get their hands on Mario's arch-rival Sonic?
Life can seem a challenge. Life can seem impossible. It's never easy when so much is on the line.

What else can be said that hasn't already?
I’ll escape now from this world, from the world of Jean Valjean, Jean Valjean is nothing now! Another story must begin!

Phew, I’m not tense anymore… now I’m just miserable.
People say "be yourself" but that's bad advice, if we were all to "be ourselves" many of us would stop wearing clothes. -Chuckman
