Mother! Every Eva fan should see it at least once. Granted, you don't watch a movie like this as much as you experience it. Btw, Chuckman, with regard to your avatar, I have always loved that Bacon painting. :)

That final 25 minutes is a total assault on the senses. Would agree with fans of EoE checking it out.

Underworld Bloodwars

Okay its not a as bad as the last one which I consider the real low point of this franchise but its no where near on par with the first and second movie or rise of the lycans and it doesn't feel like underworld any more and its just kind of boring set pieces and cookie cutter villains on both sides. This is the kind of movie you watch when your doing something else or not really paying attention.

SPOILER: Show
There constantly using the idea of drinking blood to get hybrid powers hence you have super vampires and werewolves again and this movie had a brilliant opportunity to make both sides truce at the end but just lets it go because it wants sequels which this movie doesn't deserve as its not that good. It has great ideas but there very poorly executed and there just no real character development and the so called white peace vampires magic water and why it does what it does is never fully explained.

Just like the previous movie the werewolves are somehow the evil guys again when the first movie was brilliant for its grey is grey perspective regarding both sides and showed later in rise of the lycans that there a persecuted minority and were originally slaves. The villains could have been so much better as well Eva green is the typical sexual dominating female leader which looks so old hat now on screen that it made me roll my eyes. The werewolf villain Marius is just a boring macho archetype unlike Lucian who I loved as he had a wonderful depth of character and preferred intelligence over brute force and his love story with Sonja was bitter suite where as Marius's relationship with a barely named female vampire comes off as toxic, unhealthy and mildly abusive.

I feel the film makers have made a huge error in this film as they've now turned Selene in to god and in the next film this could do real damage because there is no werewolf who can stand up her unless the werewolves somehow call up a real god to challenge her via magic or technology, but then it drifts further and further from source and breaks its own canon rules which its started doing with the magic water as there now implying magic exists when before it didn't.
Anywhere can be paradise as long as you have the will to live. After all, you are alive, so you will always have the chance to be happy.

Millenium Actress:

I've never seen any movie quite like this. I never really got to know Satoshi Kons movies until after I found out about his death. The only movie of his I've ever seen was Paprika. Though I know of his reputation and how he inspired many western filmmakers and animators.

It's a really artistically done, yet at the same time somber film. Crossing genres and blending different eras and scenery together into something really surreal. I mean how many films have a 2001 Space Odyssey Reference and a Kurosawa pastiche in the same movie?

Kingsman: The Golden Circle will have far less rewatch value for me than the first film. The original film was a 4/5, this film is a 2.5/5.

Oh, and like the original, there's
SPOILER: Show
a sex scene
that's generating a fair amount of controversy. Also, like the original, I don't see what the big deal is. It's no more over-the-top in its presentation than the rest of the already over-the-top film its in and features
SPOILER: Show
two consenting participants

Is it ass sex? Because that determines theater or rental.

No, he fingers her in order to plant a GPS tracker in her body to lead the Kingsman/Statesmen to an important location because her other sexual partner is the main sub-villain of the film. That's it.

Also, I think the reason I don't like this movie as much is that I don't think it entirely knows what it's about, at least I wasn't able to gather anything significant on first watch because it feels so haphazard. The first film had clear themes of class warfare and was a revenge fantasy wherein the poor are proven to be worthwhile members of the society if given proper resources and it ends with our hero pauper literally get to fuck the rich princess in the ass.

This...I dunno what this film is trying to say, exactly. Drugs are bad...but we should legalize all of them? I guess the best way of expressing it would be that it feels like the plot of the first film served the films themes, whereas the plot of this film just serves the plot and really nothing else.

Raiders of the Lost Ark – Hasn’t aged well. Found myself almost dozing off at parts. The story behind the still fantastic face-melting special effect is more interesting than the film itself.

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade – Has aged better. Good flow to the story, decent action, the humour hits its mark better. Gotta love that cut to Marcus.
And is that Alexei Sayle playing the Sultan? Yes!

The Magnificent Seven (2016). S’alright. The shoot-outs are satisfying, even if the samey-looking characters and costumes didn’t help much; it’s often hard to tell who’s getting shot, are they goodies or baddies? I can’t tell.
Some of the camera work is distracting, just watch the awkward focusing-blurs during the town meeting scene at the very start.
Ended on a bit of a whimper, and I must say- that punchline almost made me throw-up. Those crosses and field must have been CG, right? It looked awful.

The first Kingsman is one of those movies where I'm so entertained that I don't pay much attention to interpreting it while I'm watching it, but I totally agree with your class-based reading of that film. The contrast betwee Eggsy and Samuel L. Jackson's villain makes a great deal of sense in that context, as does the McDonalds thing.

Just saw it myself. It's a great movie, to put it in Eva terms it's third impact from EoE + the first 2 acts of Eva Q. It's claustrophobic, it has lots of symbolism and it's intense. Visually speaking the second half of the movie it's one of the craziest thing I've seen. It's totally worth the money and the time, even if the execution is not perfect.

I'd say it's a biblical movie, literally too.

I just finished Transformers: The Last Knight.

It's the best one of the series so far and actually pretty damn good. Frank Welker is Megatron and he has his arm cannon at long last. All the lore presented in this movie contradicts the last movie, despite sharing some characters. Retcons abound. Anthony Hopkins doesn't quite gnaw on the scenery so hard as when he was in a Dracula movie but it's close. Bay somehow found an English clone of Megan Fox. In grand Transformers tradition, concepts like scale and physics are pretty much dictated by the whims of the director.

It's full of batshit crazy mythology about King Arthur being buddy buddy with Transformers and Marky Wahlberg having Excalibur or something... except it came from another planet... in the last movie, from a robot that crashed in Chicago but no one saw it... or something.

It gets a little chaotic during the big finale fight but the designs of the Transformers have found a happy middle between the swirling piles of scrap metal from the other movies and the blocky aesthetic of the cartoon.

Can't wait to see Unicron, they've been teasing him for I think three movies now.

Also this is the second time that Cybertron has almost destroyed Earth and like the fourth explanation of the origins of the Transformers and why Earth is important to them, and it's hilarious.

Perry Mason - The Case of the Shooting Star (1986) - First time viewing...

Perry Mason - The Case of the Lost Love (1987) - First time viewing...

Dragon Ball Z - Super Android 13 (1992)
- Meh, one of the lesser Dbz movies.
- That said them actually battling in a city for once was refreshing.
- Some fun sarcastic lines ("gero must be getting old")

The Mysterians (1957)
- Might have just been tired, but was pretty bored through this viewing.
- Regardless the score is the best part of the film.

Rules of Engagement (2000)

Vantage Point (2008)
- Strong thriller, would like seeing a sequel in the same style.

Terror in the Midnight Sun (1957) - First time viewing...

Blade Runner (1982)
- Great no question but I like Alien notably more & don't get all that much emotionally out of it.
- Hoping the sequel will top it in that regard like it has for at least a few critics so far.
- Forgot the love scene being kinda rapey.

Bayonetta - Bloody Fate (2013) - First time viewing...
- Never played the game.
- Absolutely love the animation & art design. A few spare 3d models looked poor but it's never on screen long enough to cause issue.
- Voice work is good to great especially the lead.
- Score is really good.
- Surprised how notably overpowered Bayonetta is.
- Final cosmic god battle is fairly awesome & the kinda thing I'd really like to see in a Thor anime if Madhouse would get off their ass and do one.
- Makes me long for further anime video game adaptions, I need to watch the Dante's Inferno movie next. I wish Heavenly Sword's 2014 movie had this animation style rather then the 3d crap it got that didn't even look as good as the 2007 cinematic trailer for the freaking game.
- Also I feel the main angel design here are very similar to the mass production Evas.

Good choice.

I've heard Mother is just a failed attempt at making something EoE already did perfectly. Is that true? Should I rewatch EoE to get my dose of brilliance? Or is Mother the spiritual LA version?

The Handmaiden
I loved Oldboy (wow, how controversial) and Stoker, so once I learned this existed I needed to watch it. Very competent thriller, I thoroughly enjoyed it. But it didn’t exactly blow me away. Also, I would have preferred more male nakedness, as the endless fetishization of lesbian sex bored my gay dick.

Jackals- A poor man's You're Next without the dark humour and cool kill scenes. The best scenes were ones inside the cabin. 6/10

The New York Ripper- Undoubtedly Fulci's sleaziest film. A good blend of his oldschool giallo influence and the gore effects that made him known. Also, the serial killer talks like a psychotic Donald Duck so points for creepiness. 7/10

Rocky:
Confession, I'm a big fan of Stallone. But I've never seen any of the Rocky movies. Not even Creed. So I was going into this completely blind. It's a B-Movie, but it's a decent B-Movie. It's about the Everyman given a chance to compete with the big dogs, everyone can relate to that.

One thing I was not expecting was Apollo Creed dressed like George Washington. That moment of over the top camp came out of nowhere in what was otherwise a pretty grounded movie. I thought we weren't supposed to get to the really overtly patriotic Rocky until Rocky IV.
