Queen & David Bowie - Under Pressure

Pressure pushing down on me
Pressing down on you, no man ask for
Under pressure that burns a building down
Splits a family in two

...

It's the terror of knowing
What this world is about
Watching some good friends
Screaming, "Let me out!"

...

Chippin' around, kick my brains 'round the floor
These are the days - it never rains but it pours

...

Turned away from it all like a blind man
Sat on a fence but it don't work
Keep coming up with love but it's so slashed and torn
Why, why, why?

Love

Insanity laughs under pressure we're cracking
Can't we give ourselves one more chance?
Why can't we give love that one more chance?
Why can't we give love, give love, give love, give love, give love, give love, give love, give love?..

'Cause love's such an old-fashioned word
And love dares you to care for
The people on the edge of the night
And love dares you to change our way of
Caring about ourselves
This is our last dance
This is our last dance
This is ourselves
Under pressure
Under pressure
Pressure

I think that it's a very "Evangelion" song, but maybe it's more fit for Asuka and Shinji.

In Flames' "The Jester Script Transfigured":

SPOILER: Show
Cre-age-aeon,
new beginnings held in infinite vacuum
Biotronic test-worlds free of inscription
devoid of the evils of man,
noble cyborg savage

In cold, ceremonial perfection
more radiant than the sum of suns
with each and every attribute
of animal, machine and man

Dystopia, ElectroHeart
the grotesque and the linear
took one final giant blow
into the Ram of
what is us

In cold, ceremonial perfection
more radiant than the sum of suns
with each and every attribute
of animal, machine and man

Installing, awaiting the restoration of unsequenced chaos

We've only seen the outlines of the beginning
and this core, the slowly moving raptor
will make the very notion of Hell
seem celestial in comparison.

Doesn't this strike you as a poetic description of EVA 01?
I wanted to try harvesting the rice

I wanted to hold Tsubame more

I wanted to stay together forever with the boy I like

Nice timing with the bump, I'm listening Princess of China (Acoustic) by Coldplay ft. Rihanna and my inner AsuShin shipper side connected it with my post 3.0 headcanon. :nyao:

SPOILER: Show
Once upon a time somebody ran
Somebody ran away saying 'fast as I can
I got to go, I got to go'
Once upon a time we fell apart
You're holding in your hands the two halves of my heart
Oh oh oh, ohohohoh

Oh ohohohoh, ohohohohoh, ohohohoh, oh

Once upon a time we burned bright
Now all we ever seem to do is fight
On and on, and on and on and on
Once upon a time on the same side
Once upon a time on the same side in the same game
Now why d'you have to go
Have to go and throw water on my flame?
I could have been a princess, you'd be a king
Could have had a castle and worn a ring

I could have been a princess, you'd be a king
Could have had a castle and worn a ring
But no o o o oh you let me go o o o oh
You stole my star
La, lalala lalalala, lalalalalalala, lalalalalalala,
You stole my star
La, lalala lalalala

'Cos you really hurt me, no you really hurt me
'Cos you really hurt me, no you really hurt me
'Cos you really hurt me, oh-oh you really hurt me
'Cos you really hurt me, oh-oh you really hurt me

I'm gonna say "Fix You" by Coldplay.

While it works for me in a general way it primarily reminds me of Kaworus' relationship with Shinji (not the shippy type relationship but in a more general sense) especially in 3.0.

Fake Plastic Trees - Radiohead
I'd have to say it's pretty much not possible to hear this song and associate it right away with Rei.

[Verse 1]
Her green plastic watering can
For her fake Chinese rubber plant
In the fake plastic earth
That she bought from a rubber man
In a town full of rubber plans
To get rid of itself

[Chorus]
It wears her out
It wears her out
It wears her out
It wears her out

[Verse 2]
She lives with a broken man
A cracked polystyrene man
Who just crumbles and burns
He used to do surgery
For girls in the 80s
But gravity always wins

[Chorus]
And it wears him out
It wears him out
It wears him out
It wears him out

[Verse 3]
She looks like the real thing
She tastes like the real thing
My fake plastic love
But I can't help the feeling
I could blow through the ceiling
If I just turn and run

[Chorus]
And it wears me out
It wears me out
It wears me out
It wears me out

[Outro]
And if I could be who you wanted
If I could be who you wanted
All the time
All the time

Ezra Weston Loomis Pound wrote:How have I laboured?
How have I not laboured
To bring her soul to birth,
To give these elements a name and a centre!

She is beautiful as the sunlight, and as fluid.
She has no name, and no place.
How have I laboured to bring her soul into separation;
To give her a name and her being!

Surely you are bound and entwined,
You are mingled with the elements unborn;
I have loved a stream and a shadow.

I beseech you enter your life.
I beseech you learn to say "I"
When I question you:
For you are no part, but a whole;
No portion, but a being.

I may have shared this before, but to this day this song gives me strong Eva vibes and I love it. create a beast, made a man without a soul~

New Frontier by Iron Maiden wrote:Bleeding you dry from the start
The sum of my parts
To give it away
New life in a day
Some new Frankenstein
Damned for all time

Cursed by the angel who fell
Who saves me from hell?
And who is my god?
And where is my soul?
Too tired to jump too young to run

Never ending, forever searching
Chasing dreams, the dreams of my heart
Always seeking, always asking
Questions right from the start

Out beyond the new frontier
Playing god without mercy, without fear
Create a beast, made a man without a soul
Is it worth the risk, a war of god and man?
Is it worth the risk, a war of god and man?

I want to end my life now
But I don't know how
Recycled again a lifetime of pain
The spawn of a man
The devil has planned

Never ending, forever searching
Chasing dreams, the dreams of my heart
Always seeking, always asking
Questions right from the start

Out beyond the new frontier
Playing god without mercy, without fear
Create a beast, made a man without a soul
Is it worth the risk, a war of god and man?
Is it worth the risk, a war of god and man?

Might have been posted before but this gem by "U2" fits so many characters and works even on a meta level.

I'm likely defeating the purpose of this topic, but I've been an Utada Hikaru fan pre-falling into EVA universe. Was really surprised to find Beautiful World and Sakura Nagashi were written/composed specifically for Rebuild because I've been listening to those songs since release. It was definitely some knowledge I passed by in the past but did not retain, probably because I did not care about EVA at the time. Now I don't think I can ever not be able to associate these two songs with EVA.

Who Will Know by Shirō Sagisu

If I die in this world,
who will know something of me?

I am lost,
no-one knows,
there's no trace of my yearning

If I die

But I must
In this world,
carry on,
who will know
nothing worse
something of me?
can befall.

I am lost,
All my fears,
No-one knows,
All my tears,
there's no trace
tell my heart
of my yearning
there's a hole.

I wear a void,
not even hope,
a downward slope,
is all I see.

I wear a void,

As long as breath comes from my mouth,
not even hope,
I may yet stand the slightest chance,
a downward slope,
a shaft of light is all I need,
is all I see.
to cease the darkness killing me.

Even when he's not doing Evangelion soundtracks, Mr. Sagisu still gives me that depressing vibe.

Shameless YouTube self promotion FTW.

I agree, Who Will Know would fit well in 3.0+1.0 and I half expect it to be there similarly to Shin Godzilla and Decisive Battle.

Metallica and Evangelion

I've been on a huge Metallica hit as of late. I bought their first 5 albums recently too.

I'm curious to know what you guys think would be the eva cast's favourite Metallica albums, songs you would associate with them and maybe discussions about how their songs could relate to Evangelion.

P.S. Sorry for creating my own thread for this before.

I can think of one:

Metallica-Hardwired

The chorus just sums up Evangelion perfectly:

We're so fucked
Shit outta luck
Hardwired to self-destruct
My ROFLcopter goes Soi soi soi.

I'm listening to Queen II right now, so...

For the scene where Rei incorporates Gendo's hand, and turns instrumentality over to Shinji: Father to Son
SPOILER: Show
Don't destroy what you see, your country to be
...
Won't you hear us sing our family song,
Now we hand it on

Take this letter that I give you, take it sonny hold it high,
You won't understand a world that's in it, but you'll write it all again before you die"

Gendo himself: Loser in the End (about a mother's lament after her son leaves her)
Shinji: Nevermore
SPOILER: Show
There's no living in my life anymore,
The seas have gone dry and the rain's stopped falling,
...
Why did you (Kaworu) have to leave me,
Why did you deceive me,
You send me to the path of nevermore.... nevermore x2

Asuka: Ogre Battle (Ogres=MPEs)
SPOILER: Show
Now the battle is on, yeah yeah yeah
Come tonight. Come to the Ogre site. Come to Ogre battle fight...

Kaworu: The Fairy Feller's Masterstroke (kinda obvious, eh?)
SPOILER: Show
To swing his axe (02) he swears, as he climbs (descends to Dogma) he dares to deliver,
The Masterstroke (Impact).
...
Oberon and Titania (Kaworu as Adam, and Lilith) watched by a harridan (Misato)
Mab is the Queen (Rei) and there's a good apothecary man (Shinji)

Rei (well, GNR): The March of the Black Queen
SPOILER: Show
You've never seen nothing like it, no never in your life,
Like going up to heaven and then coming back alive (Instrumentality),
Let me tell you all about it, and the world will so allow it, give a little time to choose (to choose to return from Instrumentality)
...
Here comes the Black Queen, poking in the pile, (collecting souls)
...
bring them down to size (LCL)
...
Put em in the cellar (Yui's chamber of Guf?) with the naughty boys (Seele and Gendo, who don't come back)
...
(The rest is about Shinji's realization of the need for others' company) A voice from behind me reminds me, spread out your wings you are an angel,
Remember to deliver with the speed of light, a little bit of love an joy,
...
In each and every soul lies a man and very soon he'll deceive and discover
That even till the end of his life, he'll bring a little love.
...
Forget your singalongs and your lullabies, surrender to the city of the fireflies
But now it's time to be gone, forever. (the voice in him that wants to stay in Instrumentality)
My first fanfic: Neon Genesis Craig-Insertion
Kyoko's Melons: Currently being completely rewritten, so... if anyone liked it so far, great. I did too. But... not enough. ;)

Liam Gallagher's first solo album contains this gem called For What It's Worth, and the lyrics could have been wrote by Shinji during 3I in NGE or after 3.0

SPOILER: Show
In my defense, all my intentions were good
And heaven owns a place somewhere for the misunderstood
You know I'd give you blood if it'd be enough

Devil's on my doorstep since the day I was born
It's hard to find a sunset in the eye of a storm
But I'm a dreamer by design and I know in time, we'll put this behind

For what it's worth, I'm sorry for the hurt
I'll be the first to say, "I made my own mistakes"
For what it's worth, I know it's just a word and words betray
But sometimes we lose our way
For what it's worth

Behind the lens is a poison picture you paint
And let's not pretend you were ever searching for saints
'Cause I've been crucified for just being alive

Somewhere in the crossfire of this whispering war
Seems that I forgot just what I was fighting for
But underneath my skin there's a fire within
Still burning

For what it's worth, I'm sorry for the hurt
I'll be the first to say, "I made my own mistakes"
For what it's worth, I know it's just a word and words betray
Sometimes we lose our way
For what it's worth

The first bird to fly gets all the arrows
Let's leave the past behind with all our sorrows
I'll build a bridge between us and I'll swallow my pride

For what it's worth, I'm sorry for the hurt
I'll be the first to say, "I made my own mistakes"
For what it's worth, I know it's just a word and words betray
But sometimes we lose our way
For what it's worth

Rei - "Copy of A" by Nine Inch Nails

Ritsuko - "Speed of Pain" by Marilyn Manson

Misato - "My Lady Dominate" by William Control

I'll think up more later...
FROM EVANGELION:
"Acts of Man are greater than acts of God!"

"I'm saying that I love you."

NOT FROM EVANGELION:
"You are excrement. You can change yourself into gold."

I'll be you, let's trade shoes
Just to see what it'd be like to
Feel your pain, you feel mine
Go inside each other's minds
Just to see what we find
Look at shit through each other's eyes
But don't let 'em say you ain't beautiful
They can all get fucked, just stay true to you
Don't let 'em say you ain't beautiful
They can all get fucked, just stay true to you"
Just a big bro looking out for sistah

Mess with this crew, and I'll give you a blister
