Ritsuko was pretty clear already that time, and she's the leader of the Wunder. Everyone has a limit and the movie establish that killing Shinji is the line for Misato. Random workers are okay, Shinji isn't.

Kaworu's ability to deactivate, remove, and delay the choker makes it really questionable as to whether or not it matters if Misato pulled the trigger. She could have been slamming the detonator over and over again the entire time, and it wouldn't have made a difference. If Kaworu wanted to, he could have completely suppressed the choker. However, just like in the original series, Kaworu chose to die in order to allow Shinji to live. And like the original series as well, he died by Shinji's hands (this time, less directly, more inadvertently). Shinji is the one that's going to feel guilty about Kaworu's death. Even if in a moment of raw emotion he blames Misato, it's not going to carry any weight behind it. The emphasis will be on Shinji's personal guilt for leading Kaworu to his death, for leading him into a situation where he felt self-sacrifice was the best option, just like the original!

Doesn't the choker activate after it detects the possible 13th angel? It could be activated manually but it could also automatically activate if it detected certain type of activity, then there's also Kaworus line about the choker being made initially for him. I think it just activated automatically after it detected Kaworus angelic properties.

As far as OPs original question, i could see Shinji being angry at Misato, at least initially, but he's more likely to ultimately blame himself for it. Shinji Isn't in a position to hold a grudge over something he and Kaworu actively pursued, Kaworu took the choker from him and Shinji pulled the spears. That's what ultimately led to the choker going off.

Unlikely. Shinji tends to manifest his anger internally not externally, especially with the state he's in at the end of Q.

Obviously, if Misato did end up pulling the Trigger she would know that it wasn't Shinji since the DSS choker detected a Blue pattern (though it was somewhat ambiguous to if they knew Shinji wasn't an Angelic abomination) which definitely checks out since Kaworu is definitely Angelic.

Assuming Misato DID pull the DSS choker and it wasn't automatically designed to go off?

1) Assuming she knew it wasn't Shinji, would he blame her for killing (Supposedly) the last person who ever cared for him? Denial and deflection is a step on the way to acceptance.

2) Assuming she was out of options and pulled the trigger, assuming she still thought it was Shinji wearing it when she pulled the trigger. How will she react to finding out he's alive? How will Shinji react to finding out she pulled the trigger believing she was killing him and not Kaworu?

OMG, im so curious now, how Shinji will handle this...

but guys, if he wanted he could have taken the choker off right? but he didn't do it to save Shinji, but still, will Shinji just blame himself or blame someone else for it?
Kaworu, pls come back in the 3.0 + 1.0
