If you're watching Elvis movies you need to watch Clambake.

He will teach you despair.

Uck. Don't get me started on that.

Him dying on the toilet had more dignity than that movie.

At the very least, when Elvis passed on, he was able to also pass on the contents of his bowels directly into the shitter.

Moana-2016

Okay I confess I went in to this film not thinking that it would top Frozen but I was so wrong this is just as good and it shows that Disney's animated movies are just getting better and its got me really interested now in what will happen with Frozen 2 and Wreck It Ralph 2.

SPOILER: Show
The movie does some great things but the biggest is making it easy for the lead character she messes up she gets knocked around and nearly gets killed quite a few times and can't even sail. Its also the first time I've seen Disney get a demi character right as Maui is arrogant and egoistic at the start and clearly doesn't get mortals and doesn't like getting attached to them because he spent all of his life trying to please them only to find that they only loved him for what he could do not for who is as a person.

The message in this film is so different as its about self love and belief for both characters but in different forms also the ending twist on the evil villain is brilliant and a really nice change for Disney. I liked the hood wink Disney does at the start in that it shows you two animals friends but the one that ends up in Moana's boat is not the one you think its gonna be. The only thing in this film that doesn't land is jokes about tweeting and princess's granted this is Disney mocking itself for past princess's but it feels out of place in this universe.

I watched The Mummy (2017).

It's an okay movie. It's predictable. Tom Cruise plays Tom Cruise: Snarky Ladies Man with a heart of gold.

It actually has interesting themes. Cruise's character whose name I don't remember spends most of the movie as The Chick, and the sexy sedictive mummy is an interesting take. For most of the movie she's human enough to be attractive and dead enough to be offputting and the effect this has honestly deserved a better movie.

There isn't a single surprising plot beat or twist. It's an interesting take on hybridizing a superhero origin and a horror movie, but lacks commmitment. The PG-13 rating forces it to take some generally unnerving choices and tap into actual fears over gore/disgust. It's derivative, but in a polite, winking way that doesn't insult it's audience or look down on its own genre the way Sherlock Holmes did. The plan put forth by the inevitable monster hunter secret society is dumb, but not much dumber than the human plan in Godzilla. The climax is orderly and by the numbers, but not dependent on stupidity like some recent superhero flicks. It sets rules for its universe and keeps to them without cheating either to help the heroes or to force a twist.

I find it to be a good natured, journeymans film. Everyone did their job. Not a ringing endorsement, but it's not an Uwe Boll flick because of a boneheaded musical choice in a trailer. 3 out of five, worth an hour and a half of my life.

The Tall Man (2012)
Wow...
Hard to talk about this one without spoilers...
Biel is really damn good here, can't wait to start watching her new series The Sinner which looks to be a showcase on her acting.
End of the film ask a lot of uncomfortable no easy answer questions about societies apathy & parental treatment of children (Gone Baby Gone raised similar queries)
There is a single moment where the film seems to stop & preach to you but it doesn't beat you over the head with it. (a character literally says "if your done...")
I have not seen & have no intention of ever seeing Martyrs (torture porn is not my thing) but Laugier's direction here is really damn good, There is a LOT of misdirection & red herrings but it all flows extremely well.
Stephen Mchattie & William B.Davis are wasted, it's Biel's show the whole way.

Inferno-2016

Okay there is nothing wrong with this movie is quite good it has a solid cast its interesting well acted just not on par with the first film but the one thing that is wrong with it really hurts it, though its still a good watch though and I'd still recommend it.

SPOILER: Show
Did they have to make the villain so damn obvious? Its like they put huge markers above her head like person acting odd here, couldn't they have just kept this out and made it a huge surprise when she did turn on the lead. Did they also have to make so lame, like she has no story line other than following her boyfriends plan and has no real agender of her own.

I'm not saying take the boyfriend out but please make it about more than him, give her own reasoning beyond his and give her own view of why killing everyone is a good thing outside of his word for word for view point. Its a shame as this movie series normally has great female characters but the writers just didn't care enough about this one to make her really interesting outside of a cookie cutter minion that's following a dead masters dying wishes and it hurts the film so much.

Wind River- 10/10

When the poster informs you it was written by the same guy who wrote Sicario and Hell or Highwater, you are already expecting greatness. This surpassed even my high expectations. Without a doubt the best of this unofficial trilogy. I suspect after a second viewing once the blu-ray is out, it may very well go on my "all time favorite movies" list. Get your ass down to the local theatre and see it. Now.

Alien (1979) 2003 Director's Cut - 8/10

Wow. This movie was very good. I was impressed by Sigourney Weaver's performance; I had only seen her in Ghostbusters (the original) before this, and I didn't like her much there. But she did QUITE a good job here.

The movie is difficult to watch, in parts. It was very good, but I think I'll have to wait a while till I see the sequels.

Following, are my comments on the movie, made while watching it. Spoilers, obviously.

SPOILER: Show
The onboard computer's called "Mother"....

They enter the yonic alien structure, and find the dead alien on the inside, manning a phallic device (looks kinda like a telescope?). Then, they go deeper, and find a cave filled with "eggs". The symbolism's not too subtle here, eh?

When they're cutting off the thing from Kane's helmet, also looks quite... yonic (useful word!).

"I'll try and remove one of the digitals-"
"You're gonna do what?" Nice humor, for a movie like this :).

Wow. Ash actually calls it "Kane's son" explicitly... Nice.

Oh my God. Oh my God. Oh my God.
The scene where Ash subdues Ripley, and he's stuffing the rolled-up magazine into her mouth: There are pictures of naked women around (presumably for the entertainment of the male crew-members). Those pictures reinforce the creepy sexual undertones of what he's doing.
Oh my God. Oh my God. Oh my God.

Huh. The voice of "Mother"'s not unlike that of Angela Lansbury (AKA, "Mrs. Murder, She Wrote"). Makes sense, 'cause of the whole "maternal" figure thing going on, to have it sound like an elderly woman.

Fullmetal Alchemist  SPOILER: Show
Dallas et al. remind me of the souls inside Envy in FMA.

And Dallas at the end, is in a position that reminds me of the alien manning the phallic device from the beginning.

Of course, she's practically naked in the final battle. As if the creepy sexual subtext wasn't bad enough, with the phallic-headed aliens raping everybody... shivers...

Oh, can't wait for you to eventually watch The Best Alien's Movie which is, undoubtedly, Alien: Resurrection.
It is my favorite of them all, even surpassing my second favorite: Alien 3 (well, at least one of the multiple versions of 3 I have).
It has the corniest tone and most scifi-ish plot of them all, and some of my favorite actors and actresses, beyond Weaver herself: Winona Ryder (Lydia from Beetlejuice), Ron Perlman (Hellboy), Gary Dourdan (Warrick from CSI), Brad Dourif (Chucky+Wormtongue), Dan Hedaya (Arius from Commando).

I've watched it a hundred times; both the extended and theatrical version. And I love it.
I love it with the passion of a thousand suns, and whoever doesn't recommend it as much as me is lying to you and obviously not a true Aliens fan.

The first sequel, Aliens is my favorite James Cameron film, and is one of the best examples of a sequel that is as good or better than a previous entry. That being said, it's an entirely different kind of film--more of an action-thriller than a horror film. It's unanimously regarded as being just as well-made as the first, but it's obviously a different director's take on the franchise.

Alien Series Rank for Me:

1. Alien
2. Aliens
3. Alien: Covenant
4. Alien 3
5. Prometheus
6. Alien: Resurrection.

And even Resurrection is a movie I hold dear to my hear and have watched too many times to count.

We don't speak of the AVP films.

Oh & Sion Sono's TAG is on Netflix streaming if you haven't seen it. It's another wonderfully INSANE work of Sono magic. How the man makes a movie seemingly every other month is beyond me.

I watched Dune. It's very Dune. I think it's too short, the sound shit is dumb and Lynch was probably the perfect director for it.

People who read the book first usually hate it.

It's a very rushed, borderline nonsensical movie. The first half until Paul reaches the desert is good, but after that it's like they gave up and decided to explore the rest of the plot via montage.

You have to separate the impressive visual realisation from the elision of key elements to fit it in at under the 150 minute mark. Given the constraints, it did about the best that one could expect, and while it is overall a failure, it made a damned good try at what it did. As we'll never have the Jodorowsky version, it it also as good as we'll ever get.

Dune deserves a massive adaptation, both in screen time and in the cast, locations, sets, effects, etc. It deserves a Lord of the Rings treatment from a director who loves the work as Jackson loved his material. My ideal would be a Cecil B. DeMille type thing, with vivid colors, bombastic stage actors commanding the material, etc.

Truth be told I don't think it'll ever get made because it's the story of a charismatic religious leader forming a space jihad to overthrow imperialists with asymmetric warfare. At best, all of the pseudo-Arabic and religious commentary would have to be excised to get it through the studio system.

Syfy channel back when they were good before they became about real cheap series and bad b movies did do a mini series called Frank Herbert's Dune and its really good as they put in so much stuff that the movie left out and it's much more true to the book it was done back 2000 and well worth digging up and watching. https://www.tor.com/2017/05/09/syfys-dune-miniseries-is-the-most-okay-adaptation-of-the-book-to-date/
