For the shy Yuushabros out there -- Washio Sumi part 3 PV, subbed already
Since this series is being part-funded funded by public money (tourism advertising from the Kanonji local government), it doesn't really have to turn a profit.

...Mankai? Well, clearly we all know what they're lifting from there.

Clearly, Japan wants to solve its population woes by tricking otakus into ******** horses. I mean hey, it worked in America. That poor damn pony.

Ikuhara directs new show at MAPPA
This is amazing news. MAPPA has finally a director who knows how to structure and write a story and actually has a vision beyond grim-deep-cool. (Then again Yuri on Ice was amazing). And Ikuhara isn't stuck with people at Silver Link who obviously struggle to animate anything good looking.

Hey man, Garo(the first season) and Singeki no Bahamut have good direction!
Anyway, this makes me happy. Yurikuma was good, but a letdown compared to Ikuharas previous works, so hopely this will be a return to his previous heights.

Re: News of Anime in Japan
Terror is Resonance was also a pretty cool MAPPA series, and had one of the directors. Though I may be the only person who remembers that series...and maybe you had to stay up late to watch Cowboy Bebop on Adult Swim back in the day to truly appreciate Watanabe? haha

Re: News of Anime in Japan
As I recall, it was quite well done; but for me the basic premiss was unconvincing, and became more so as the series proceeded.

Re: News of Anime in Japan
I enjoyed it, but the problem in hindsight was that it used all this exploitative imagery (especially in the opening episodes with the blatant references to 9/11) and didn't really do anything MEANINGFUL with it. It wasn't commenting on Terrorism, or discussing the ideologies that make people commit terror acts. . .it was just your basic Tom Clancy-ish story without any of the thematic meat I was really expecting from something that was tackling terrorism. Especially in light of ongoing events in the real world.

Re: News of Anime in Japan
I'm with Ray on Terror in Resonance. Joy Evangelion is right, that it was still awesomely directed (as expected by Watanabe), but the script fell terribly short to go anywhere.
Grim-dark-derp is an unfair assertion, as is that I blamed the directors for their shortcomings. I just found all of their shows, while always good looking (though quality tends to drop pretty fast as the shows go on) to be terribly lacking in writing. I hope Ikuhara has a good team to bring his vision to life!
SPOILER: Show
Especially the fact that nobody died due to the terror acts kind of broke it for me. This decision alone bereft that show of a lot of tension. Also, the backstory for the MCs was terribly boring. They could have gone so many more interesting places with the concept, if they were "normal" school kids turned crazy because of "normal" reasons, instead of yet another Anime conspiracy.

I have never been more excited for this type of news since I don't really follow the show anymore except for now and then unforgettable moments in select episodes:

Re: News of Anime in Japan
PV for new Yama no Susume OVA -- or at least I would guess that it's an OVA with a 28th October date, and the distinct lack of a numeral to indicate a 3rd series

Japanese Government Moves Forward With Plans to Relax Visa Restrictions for Foreign Animators
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/daily-b ... rs/.121523
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/daily-b ... rs/.121523
The Japanese government is moving forward with plans to relax visa status regulations for foreigners seeking to get jobs in Japan after graduating from Japanese colleges or vocational schools in fields such as animation, design, or cooking.
In March, the government established the "Cool Japan Talent Raising Investigation Commission" to open communication with experts and industry professionals about the issue. Starting at the end of this month, the commission will examine each business and educational institution with the goal of changing visa requirements as early as next year.
The current Japanese visa laws have placed strict regulations on foreigners working in certain areas, including animation, fashion, and cooking. Some foreign graduates of Japanese vocational schools with job offers from Japanese companies have been denied visas that would allow them to stay in the country.
In particular, under the current regulations, graduates in certain fields usually must have exceptional knowledge or skills in order to earn a visa. For example, vocational field graduates seeking to work in the clothing industry may be able to get visas for high level jobs such as designing or merchandise planning, but not for entry-level jobs such as sewing or dying. However, some in the government are now considering a "more realistic" method of encouraging a "training period" for new employees in companies, where they will work entry-level tasks for a one- or two-year period, but will still be able to acquire a visa.
