When I'm talking people with a YouTube channel I'm talking dorks who regularly post videos where they share their useless opinions about new things in pop culture.
Too many projects I've worked on & far too many projects my peers have worked have gone through a moment of PR control & fighting social backlash because some asshat with a popular YouTube channel recorded a video in their basement about how "upcoming film A is gonna be awful for reason X" & it suddenly went semi-viral.
I've been privy to some awful stories of neckbeards hacking/searching/finding the personal contacts of people (usually women) who work on these singled out projects and sending them personal threats for "ruining a good thing". It's a small subset of angry loners who listen to popular angry youtubers and then take their opinion as word.
I have little care for people who run YouTube channels that talk about pop culture. Do your own thing. It's easy to get a fan base piggybacking off the work of others.

Mind you that's just based off my personal experience. I have a personal vendetta against all "Let me talk about upcoming projects from my basement" accounts. YouTube is a Venue for sharing art. If you have a YouTube channel and post original videos or music or art, etc that's cool. That's encouragable and a great thing! But a channel that's basically a glorified IMDB forum account? Not good.

I'm with you re: YouTube channels, but going after Marvel isn't helping your point here. Marvels delivers exactly what fans want, both in terms of summer blockbusters and in the sense of relatable superhero movies. They are not looking to break new ground with each new film: they are looking to keep the audience hooked while they tell a layered story over the course of dozens of movies, much like comic books in general. And they are succeeding in those efforts, far beyond anyone's expectations.

That aside, I'm cautiously optimistic about the Blade Runner sequel.

Marvel is pure cookie cutter filmmaking at this point. The cookies are definitely tasty but they're beginning to get a little stale. Occasionally they'll toss in a dash of nutmeg or cinnamon to the recipe to spice it up but in general the cookies you had last week are the same ones you'll have next week. They're defineitly tasty but lacking in any nutritional value. Mind you I won't begrudge anyone who enjoys a cookie. They're delicious... but empty.

And let me reiterate, from what I've heard you should not be cautiously optimistic for Blade Runner 2049. You should be ENTHUSIASTICALLY OPTIMISTIC!

That's ridiculous. They're movies, their sole purpose is to entertain . . . they're supposed to be tasty cookies, that's the point! If you think they're getting stale you do, but I haven''t found that to be the case (at least not consistently; AoU was forgettable, but Civil War was pretty darn great and Homecoming looks fantastic).

Edit: let me take this point to its logical conclusion to fully illustrate my point: would you consider a perfect filet mignon a superior meal choice? Under most circumstances, probably. But do you want it for breakfast? I don't. I want a three cheese omelet with chopped ham, bacon pieces, and diced onions, or maybe an English muffin with a bit of peanut butter, or maybe oatmeal with cinnamon and maple syrup, or any of a number of other things. I sure as heck don't want steak! How about for a mid-afternoon snack? No one wants cookies for dinner, but no one wants steak at tea time, either -- you want something light and delicious then, an indulgence that fits the season and puts a smile on your face. A fresh-baked cookie is perfect for that. So, if I'm evaluating my mid-afternoon snack, or my breakfast options, or pretty much anything other than my evening meal, I will not be using the standards that put a perfect filet mignon near the top of my evening dining list -- instead I'll be looking at what hits the spot for breakfast, or lunch, or that mid-afternoon snack and judging accordingly.

Simply put, you seem to be knocking the MCU movies for failing to be something they very much are not meant to be, and I think that's unreasonable. Judge a fish by how well it manages to be a fish, not by how well it walks like a bear.

And let me reiterate, from what I've heard you should not be cautiously optimistic for Blade Runner 2049. You should be ENTHUSIASTICALLY OPTIMISTIC!

That's great for you, since you're hearing this from sources you trust. I don't know those sources, so it's all hearsay to me. So I've gone from "man, why?" to "cautiously optimistic", and that's where I'll stay until I get a substantial amount of verified information to use to reassess my opinion.

Okay, pretty sure I understand your point of view now. Your personal experience definitely helps with that too. Thanks for clarifying.

I must say, I'm quite amused with how you took this standard figure-of-speech and expanded it into a full-fledged analogy to support your point. Got a chuckle out of me, though I'm not sure if it was supposed to.
I also agree with that point--that the Marvel films are becoming stale, that is. With me this staleness always narrows down to: a. having an extremely predictable plot and b. not making the characters interesting or stand-out-ish enough (I would say fleshed-out/developed, but these movies need to have LESS characters and/or a sharper focus on a select few characters in order for that to happen, which I think Civil War actually did moderately well with) for me to care about them.

But I digress. I do genuinely hope Blade Runner 2049 does well when it releases, but until then, I'm just going to be cautiously optimistic as well.

Full trailer is here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gCcx85zbxz4
They used the Vangelis score, nice ^_^
Looks utterly gorgeous.
Plot sounds good & not a straight up rehash of the original.

Edit - Was largely indifferent to Leto's Joker, he looks notably better here.

Looks alright, I'll give it a shot.

... that is, hopefully after I re-read Androids (as I've only read it once and I feel it may be important here) and re-watch the final cut of Blade Runner (as I've seen the director's cut, but not the final .... I think).

Very curious about this though a little sad that they have not brought back Rachael's characters as I always thought her interview under the Voight-Kampff machine was epic as was the cinematography in that scene.

I have never seen the original Blade Runner. I tried, but then I saw that there's like 6 versions and no answer which one I should watch, so I kinda never did.
From what I've seen from this trailer, I am in love with the visuals already. I don't know to what extend Ridley Scott's actually involved, but the director did Arrival, which I have heard good things about, so I'm positive this film might work out fine.
Also, Ryan Gosling is hot enough to sustain a bad movie for me.

I would suggest you watch the theatrical version, then if you are so inclined, read up on the others and decide if they sound worth watching also.

Short film with Leto's character Wallace in 2036 directed by Luke Scott.

Makes clear some new details. Apparently all replicants were banned even on the off world colonies after the events of the 1st film.
Wallace states he can now give them any life span of his choosing.

:boingy:
This is the greatest thing ever...

Director Shinichiro Watanabe (Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo) is directing an animated short tie-in to the Blade Runner 2049 film, which opens in Japan on October 27. The short is titled "Blade Runner Black Out 2022

The anime will take place in the year 2022, between the original Blade Runner film, which takes place in 2019, and its sequel Blade Runner 2049. The story will involve a large power outage on the west coast of the United States.

Watanabe is writing the script in addition to directing. Cygames Pictures, the anime studio subsidiary smartphone game publisher Cygames established last year, is producing the animation. Shukou Murase (Halo Legends, Mobile Suit Gundam Wing) is serving as character designer and animation director, and Flying Lotus is composing the music.

The cast includes Kenichirou Matsuda as Iggy, Ichigo Aoba as Trixie, and Makoto Furukawa as Ren.

Edit...
Another live action short about Dave Batistia's character.

Okay off hand question is this film really going to be over three hours long? Because I heard a rumour that its gonna be and all I can say is if its really gonna be as long as avatar, titanic or Peter Jackson's King Kong it needs to be bloody good because if its not its going to be really painful for the audience.

I popped over to Crunchyroll to give it a watch, mainly because it's been a loooooooong time since any live-action film's had an animated short or spin-off to tie in with it (the most recent example I can think of is Genndy Tartakovsky's Star Wars: Clone Wars mini-series back in 2004/05; if there's more recent examples, please correct me) and I was curious to see how it would turn out.

I thought it was pretty okay, but to be fair, I'm not a fan of Blade Runner nor director Watanabe's work so that's not really shocking. I imagine that if you're a fan of either that you'll like the heck out of this short, but it just wasn't for me. Despite that, there was some pretty good animation (especially for the flashback, where the art style completely changes thanks to it being done by the incredibly distinctive Shinya Ohira) and it managed to keep my attention to the very end.

I'm not sure what else to say other than that I wish there'd been a whole anthology film of animated shorts made around the Blade Runner verse (then again, you could argue that every cyberpunk anime since '82 has already done that!), considering that there were a few decent nuggets that I wish could have been expanded upon. Not gonna check out anything else to do with the new film, but it was really cool to see some of the most famous folks in the modern anime industry work on such an influential work - hopefully, this inspires similarly interesting ventures in the future!
