I had absolutely no idea a new Alien film was out. I just happened to recently rent Alien and Aliens by pure coincidence…

Watched Alien with the director's commentary. I was annoyed to hear no explanation whatsoever for Weaver’s completely random nose-bleed during the Ash goes robo-crazy scene. What the hell happened? Was something cut? Did she bump into the automatic door in an alternate take and forget to wipe her nose? Weird.

There was a line in Aliens which made me happy- Ripley enters the busy cargo hold in an early scene and asks: “Is there anything I can do to help? I feel like a fifth wheel here.”
Fifth wheel. Thank you, writers.
I’ve always disliked the phrase “third wheel”. Whilst the saying does make perfect sense in a romantic/dating setting- in most other situations a third wheel can only be considered useful, not superfluous. Sure, you can ride a bicycle just fine as it is, but you can’t argue that a trike is more stable. A fifth wheel on the other hand- now that really is completely unnecessary. Who wants to be a fifth wheel? Nobody.

Save for its handful of iconic scenes, Alien is pretty dull, sadly. I only wish I could see it for the first time again.
Aliens is still good stuff. Sequel done right 101.

Agreed they are my top favorite (non anime) animated films alongside the original The Land Before Time, The Secret of Nimh & The Rescuers Down Under.

Ripley also starts nosebleeding out of nowhere during the eulogy scene in Alien 3, so I assumed it was triggered in both instances by psychological stress. Looks like this is actually a real thing, too. Perhaps Siggy is prone to them, and both Scott and Fincher decided to incorporate it into their films.

The Belko Experiment- 8/10

A fun genre film that I didn't know had been written by James Gunn (of GotG fame). The tagline describing it as Office Space meets Battle Royale was extremely apt.

I didn't think this was a bad movie and it was nice to see Scarlett Johansson really given something to do in terms of acting as she's really underused in the Marvel series in my view as they don't give her enough emotion. The idea was interesting as was the premises yes its gets sort of weird in places but it was one of those few films in my view that really gets what becoming a god would be like and has amazing visuals. My only not pick though with this film is there are moments when Lucy kills people in cold blood and both times these people are innocent they've done nothing to her at all I understand this towards the end of the film with the car driving scene because she was loosing touch with humanity and her own emotions but the taxi driver and the guy on the operating table were innocent and deserved a chance.

Everyone shut up & watch OKJA on Netflix streaming.

Went and saw Baby Driver this week. Please go and see it, if you can. It's the best live-action film I've seen since Fury Road.

Film-making wise, it is one of the most ambitious films I have ever seen, and easily blows every other 'big-brand franchise/superhero/Star Wars' movie out of the water. Everyone who wants to get into film-making should look to this film for inspiration.

I've been waiting five years for Edgar Wright to make another great film, and I was not disappointed. Mr Wright, you truly are one of the great directors.

Starship Troopers 3: Marauder

While the action is not on par with the first this being a smaller production, it did present some ideas of how religion can be used as a weapon from both good and bad angles in a war situation. I look forward to the upcoming Traitor of Mars which will bring back Dina Meyer's character Dizzy back from the grave apparently.

What a coincidence! I just saw Baby Driver too!

I saw the Power Rangers movie last night.

It's... weird. Fairly solid teen drama. The Power Ranger elements are surprisingly well done and interesting. It's in a strange limbo between taking itself seriously and campy metahumor.

The product placement is actually really funny.

I had a couple of hours to kill, so I decided to watch The Full Monty. It's considered a (fairly) modern British comedy classic, or is at least very well liked from what I generally gathered, so I was looking forward to seeing how it turned it. How's the film? Eh, it's alright.

It's not terrible; far from it, in fact. In terms of the script, it's actually quite good. It covers a good deal of topics by saying very little, establishes characters' personalities and backstories through their actions and short exchanges, and manages to accomplish a lot without feeling overwritten or expository. If I had to recommend good scripts that manage to do their job perfectly well for budding film/TV writers, The Full Monty's would be one of them.

No, the reason I'm so apathetic towards the film is in its visual storytelling. It's very mediocre, with a lot of scenes using either wide shots or the typical 'shot/reverse-shot' manner seen in a lot of shows and films. It gets the job done, but it's pretty uninspired and gets boring after a while. I think that having mundane visuals for most of the film could have worked, had the dance scenes been made with a stylized flare that would have created a strong contrast between 'normal life' and 'musically timed strip dancing'.

But that didn't happen, not even in the final scene of the film. That scene in particular was a disappointment; it's the big climax to a whole film building up to the idea of these six dudes stripping in time to a big belting number by Tom Jones, and yet it's so lackluster in its execution as to defy belief. The editing doesn't go in time with the music, the sequence of certain cuts lack a sense of flow, the dance choreography can't be appreciated when most of it is obscured by the camera angles. I felt like I was watching a recording of a stage show more than anything (actually, The Full Monty WAS eventually made into a play, and I have a feeling it works a lot better that way).

Again, it's not bad, but it just didn't do anything for me.

Baby Driver is another Edgar Wright classic. Go see it.

Yeah I want to see Traitor Of Mars as well as I am one of those people who is forever sore that they killed Dizzy off in the first movie as loved her character and I'm not a fan of Carmen at all and think it should have been her who got her brain sucked out of the Brain bug along with her boyfriend while Dizzy should have lost a leg and arm and should have been given a robotic limbs which would have been keeping with the universe canon and tragedy of war.

I've heard nothing but praise for that movie from people with all kinds of tastes and sensibilities. I'm looking forward to watching this. Sadly, screening won' start before the end of July in Austria.

Koe no Katachi. It was amazingly heartbreaking.

Coraline. Still just as fantastical, atmospheric and awesome as I remember it being when I saw it in theatres.

Swiss Army Man. You know, parts of this film are eerily similar to Yuasa's Mind Game, just with more Harry-Potter-as-multitool action.

Lost In Space (1998): this is a bad movie, but today it was the perfect movie for me, at least to have in the background. I find myself lacking in either the time or the attention span for engaging movies these days, so it's nice to have garbage in the background while doing homework, practicing music, or gaming. As for this movie, perhaps it's my inherent love for sci-fi aesthetic, or because Gary Oldman is entertaining no matter what, but Lost In Space is a fun little, bad movie. I passionately believe bad movies are good for the heart, and that they are a necessary nuisance.

Lost in Space is a not good movie but I'm in love with the design of everything in it.
