In case anyone who plays XIV missed it, the new updated trailer for Stormblood:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jt1h1MinlLI&t=1s

Seeing the updated Eorzean map and then have it move through the other two continents was the craziest thing, I am more psyched than I was for Heavensward.

I've finally started seriously sinking some time into FFXV. Loving the game so far, I'm on Chapter 6 right now IIRC. There has obviously been some content cut here and there, but what's finished is excellent. I'm already enjoying XV more than I enjoyed the entire XIII trilogy and Type-0 combined. I'm proceeding through the game at a pretty slow pace because I like to make sure I'm overleveled for the next area, and because I seem to be making a lot of unnecessary trips back to Hammerhead. I know there are other gas stations, but I keep driving all the way back for the excellent Cindy- I mean service. Great service at the Cindy- I mean Hammerhead.

...I ended up downloading the Cindymobile skin for the Regalia and applying it, so that should help alleviate the need for further return trips. Bugs the crap out of me how the skin is lower resolution than the original car textures, though...

On the side, I love how the FFVII remake is turning out. I'm also psyched that S-E has finally confirmed they are developing a console port of Dissidia Arcade. Can't wait for more news on those. I bought the "PS4" version of FFVII to show my gratitude to S-E (but mostly because they had it on sale for $8 and I couldn't pass it up for that price).

Have you guys heard of the big rumor that the big FF XV expansion will be "The World of Versus" that will take place in the
SPOILER: Show
10-years Noct was sleeping inside the crystal.
In there, he will relive some Versus XIII elements as he faces his inner demons, fears, and regrets in order to purify himself to become the king of light. If this is true, I am sooooo down with it!

I resumed my playthrough of FFXV yesterday, and just started Chapter 10 this afternoon. Chapters 6,7,and 8 had basically nothing going on, then Chapter 9 happened... well that escalated quickly! And I mean the 0 to 120 mph in 3.5 seconds kind of "that escalated quickly."

The "honeymoon effect" is starting to wear off in regards to this game, and the game's obvious flaws in areas like story pacing and world map design are becoming more and more apparent the longer I play. And from what I understand the game ends about 3 to 4 chapters from now? I'm disappointed that I'm over halfway done with the game and only know slightly more about how this fantasy world functions than I did when I first started playing.

I've had XV for months now, and have yet to really even begin playing the first chapter. On one hand, I feel as though my patience for video games in general is waning, particularly for new games that I have to learn to love; I find myself logging hours mostly into games that have nostalgic value (Kingdom Hearts, FFX, SO3, etc). On the other hand, I feel a bit intimidated by the large, open map they immediately throw you in, especially since exploring it on foot is sooooo slow and there's a lot of empty space. I get bored with the game almost as soon as I start playing.

Then again, my relationship with most FF titles has been like that. It took me a long time to truly appreciate FFX and FFXII, but now I really love both of them. Perhaps I'll eventually come around with XV soon enough as well. Probably later rather than sooner, since I'm still backed up with my run through of FFX, SO3, and now XII is being released next month so that's also on my queue.

Honestly, FFXV is such a mess. The best part of the game is just running around the open world for your first time and exploring the landscapes. The story is nonsense, the characters are shallow, the cut content is visible - and the boss battles are messy. If you're in ch1, just go run around until you're done exploring, the story isn't worth it.

Oh come on now, the story may be noticeably flawed, but it's far from any sort of mess or nonsense. Especially with Tabata continuing to update the game after release. Boss battles were perfectly okay and the only "shallow" characters I saw are the ones that didn't get enough screen time, something they are currently;y trying to fix.

I have not played any game since FFXII and I was very happy with XV. The flaws are painfully visible the game is simply not finished - but what's there I enjoyed immensely. I'll wait until the last patch has been released before replaying it to form my final opinion.

I'm thinking they might do a GOTY edition port on the ps5. That might be worth a replay.

I've just finished FFXV. Gotta say, even though chapters 10 through 13 were a huge letdown, the last two almost made up for it in a way. The ending itself was great, although I can't figure out whether or not that very last scene actually happened. The final boss was a little anticlimactic, though not as much as in the previous FF games that had human-form-only final bosses. That dude put up a pretty good fight.

I did, of course, have some big issues with this game:
SPOILER: Show
First of all, the second half of the story really needed to be at least 10 hours longer. There just wasn't enough time for the characters to develop properly and for the finer workings of the world/mythos to be properly explained, and it was agonizingly obvious. The second half of the game felt like a highlight reel, where only the key moments of the original story were cut out and pasted together in a line. The end result was a rushed and disjointed mess that almost felt like playing a bad fanfiction, where the author had lots of great ideas but couldn't figure out how to properly connect them.

The much-maligned Chapter 13 felt more bland than anything else to me, although Prompto announcing that he's a Magitek Trooper was a real head-scratching moment (how the hell does that even work!?). Other than that and how dull the chapter was, I'm not really sure what everyone's on about.

One thing that really pissed me off though, is how they explained the global darkness/daemonization with FUCKING MUTANT MALARIA PARASITES!!! Wow, way to break my immersion and ruin the magic of the game. What's next, DLC that reveals that The Six were really just nanomachine-enhanced humans the whole time? Maybe Ardyn got a full-body nanomachine conversion just like Senator Armstrong? This super-parasite shit wasn't good in MGS5, and it sure as hell isn't good here either.

The world map was also poorly designed. For one thing, it's really just too damn huge. My playthrough clocked in just shy of 52 hours, but a lot of that is false length. I'd estimate roughly half of that was spent driving from A to B, the actual story really isn't very long at all. You're pretty much forced to waste a lot of time driving around, and I consider it wasted time because of this: During a normal FF game,
you walk everywhere (or ride a chocobo if you're in a hurry). The map is sized appropriately so that you can logistically walk everywhere as your primary means of travel. Chocobos are there as a luxury in case you're in a hurry, they're not mandatory. And while you walk, you fight monsters and level up, as well as finding treasure and new equipment. Now in FFXV, in order to justify the addition of the car,
the map has been made so massive that it's no longer feasible to walk from town to town (let alone the entire world). This makes driving a necessity, and while you are driving you are completely disconnected from the world around you (and therefore the core gameplay elements of the FF series). You can't explore, fight monsters, level up, or find treasure/new equipment while you are in the car.
If you want to do that, you must stop and get out on foot. If they had just shrunk the distance between towns down to something more manageable, the car would have been an option instead of a necessity, and the gameplay would have been much more seamless because you could do normal FF stuff en route to your destination instead of having to make frequent side trips.

The second thing about the map is there are just too many impassable barriers. I'm talking about physical walls such as cliffs that seem to go on forever and that huge-ass impact crater in the middle of the map. This makes foot-travel even more of a hassle because you have to make huge detours to get around them. There are several places I tried to explore, only to say, "Fuck it" after 10 minutes of running alongside a cliff without finding a way over or around it.

There also needed to be some actual story events taking place in the World of Ruin. I wanted to at least go to Lestallum to check up on Iris and Cindy, but nope, you're railroaded into the final dungeon as soon as you leave Hammerhead. I really wanted to explore the world and see the stuff Talbot was talking about firsthand instead of just hearing about it.

All that aside, FFXV still managed to be enjoyable. The main cast was pretty well-developed with the exception of Lunafreya and Ravus, the party characters' interactions were enjoyable, and up until the second half of the game, the story was damn good. Overall I'd give it a 7/10. Great game, but also greatly flawed and not as good as it rightfully should have been. It was obviously destined to be outstanding, but fell far short due to lack of development time and budget. If S-E one day decides to give the story the surgery it desperately needs, the game could easily be an 8/10, maybe even 9/10.

I've put in a few more hours into XV since the other day, and I've gotten a little more familiar with the gameplay. So far, it seems like a brilliant hybrid of Kingdom Hearts (battling, music, party AI), and Final Fantasy XII (explorability, hunting, story). However, I think the map has a too much open space in it without a whole lot to fill it up; perhaps if there were more abundance of enemies or locations to encounter it wouldn't seem so empty. I do like the variety of things to do, particularly the hunting side quests and the occasional random dungeon; and never did I expect such an involving fishing mini-game.

Tomorrow is my first day off in a while, so maybe I'll plow through several more hours or story.

Looks like the size of the map will no longer be an issue. The June update will add off-road Regalia, and it's more ludicrous than I ever could have dreamed.

Well, that alone eliminates all my complaints about the map.

EDIT: actually, I was just thinking about it, and my other biggest complaint would probably be the car. The mechanics on it are seriously messed up, and I wonder what this update will do to fix it. Off-road joyriding sounds like a good first step.

There's a free demo on the PS store if you're interested in trying it out. Go to the game's main page and keep scrolling down until you find it. The demo was all I needed to realize the game wasn't for me.

World Of is a Final fantasy themed Pokemon. You guys are being way too hard on it (Well, maybe just Sachi) it's great but it just gets tedious after a while. The only thing that had me scratching my head is why they didn't release it this year if it was a game made to celebrate the series 30th Anniversary.
