It's existence doesn't bother me a lot, but this craze goes on for more than 10 years now. I just think that one superhero movie per year would be enough, since so many of them eat revenues of all the other films in cinema. (there is only that much of the pie). And I feel like we get less and less high-budget non-superhero or comic movies lately.

I would do something to ensure that great sci-fi franchises such as Alien, Terminator and Predator did not lose their quality over time and instead maintained a consistently high level of quality. Or I would make it so that each franchise ended at the third or second installment, thereby ridding the universe of such monstrosities as Alien Resurrection and Alien vs. Predator.

Having seen the first part, I don't think it would have been a loss to the world of film if that project hadn't produced anything at all.

1.) directly adapting the avp comics/novels Particularly Prey with the awesome Machiko Noguchi character
and not just pulling details from it and half assing them like the first avp film did
2.) stan winstn studios for the effects and not making them buff clean like the first film had them, have them be there traditional girtty lean look
3.) better actors, this would have been late 90s early 00s so i would have cast Ayako Fujitani (90s gamera trilogy) as machiko, of course that would be a hard sell in hollywood, but it would work on screen.
4.) good character writing and dialogue taken directly from the book
5.) r rating
6.) Good serious director
7.) serious tone all the way thru 100% cept mabye some brief fun character beats

Yeah, one of the biggest nerfs is the difficulty with making a solid R rated film these days. Films these days have plenty of explosions but you'll never ever see anything that comes close to watching Kane get face-raped by an alien parasite or the subsequent monstrosity bursting from his chest. The most you can hope for these days is stock gore with lots of blood but little horror. Even Ridley Scott's Prometheus only has one scene (the C-section scene) that seems worthy of an actual R-rating, and it felt more like they tacked the rating on to make fans nostalgic rather than going out of their way to earn it. These days films are more focused on making money and much of the subtle horror and depth that propelled the original Alien has long since fallen out the airlock and burnt to death in the jet thrusters.

The only place where you can find gore in current movies is in torture porns, and that's played for bile fascination, not horror.

Gonna bump this thread with a few ideas, if that's alright.
-Ralph Bakshi being made able to adapt one Lord of the Rings book per film instead of doing the first two in one film and the third in a cancelled sequel. Seriously, I'm quite fond of Bakshi's version (especially its really good cast, lovely background art and endearing character designs*), but the film really became a barely coherent mess when it had to cover The Two Towers in the last half hour. *Sam's design aside, of course
-Satoshi Kon doesn't die, so he can finish and release The Dreaming Machine, and continue living in general (as well as maybe making another film or two down the line).
-Edgar Wright being allowed to do whatever he wanted when making Ant-Man, so we could have at least ONE stylistically interesting Marvel film.
-Richard Williams being allowed to finish The Thief and the Cobbler as he originally intended, instead of having it taken off of him and turned into Disney-lite guff.
-Wolfgang Reitherman being booted off the director's seat for The Rescuers. That film had the potential to be very good (it was certainly the studio's most ambitious film in the 70's), but I suspect Reitherman's desire for comedy and silly characters (especially in Robin Hood) contributed heavily to the film's massive tone problem, and resulted in it being such a middling movie.
-Joss Whedon decides to not direct films. He would be content writing scripts, but he'd hand directing duties over to someone who knew what they were doing.
-Hayao Miyazaki doesn't interfere with the artwork of his animators, and allows each of their styles to shine as bright as they can in his movies, instead of redrawing them all to suit his look and make everything look so damn homogenous.
-Someone somewhere decides to pick up the rights to Hideaki Anno's live-action films and release them in the West, making sure they are readily available on DVD, streaming sites and the like.
-Labyrinth does well at the cinema and gets the rave reviews I feel it deserves, simply so that Jim Henson would be happy he worked on the film. I don't want sequels or anything like that; I'd just like the man to have some peace of mind.

As for my input:
I wish Disney had more faith in Tron, and continued with the plans after Legacy. Instead, I hear they're now rebooting it entirely. For shame, Disney. For shame.
Within a similar vein: Guillermo Del Toro's Hellboy 3. The second one was mediocre, but I still highly enjoyed the characters created and the overall look of this version of Hellboy. I wish we could have gotten that third movie. I'm hesitant about the reboot.
And for something a little more controversial: I dislike this garbage controversy with the Marvel rights being split between multiple companies. I'd love to see these characters together on screen without some behind the scenes bullshit going on about who owns which character. This latest drama with the MCU Spiderman movie and the recently announced Venom movie highlights this absurdity which is going to negatively affect the quality of the content produced for these characters in the future.

Oddly if that hadn't happened there'd be no Marvel movies st all and possibly no Marvel. The company was panic selling rights when they were on the edge of bankruptcy. Oddly enough, the huge success of comic book movies and the "-cu" thing started with the properties that were so obscure or whatever that no one wanted them. More people knew Iron Man as a Black Sabbath song than a superhero not long ago.
All this (and, actually, the DCCU) goes back to Marvel and DC trying to monopolize the comics industry thirty years ago by jointly building a vertical monopoly via adopting Diamond as their sole distributors and forcing out competitors, which is also why comics became a niche product sold mainly in specialty stores and the spinning wire racks in supermarkets and drugstores disappeared.
All this (and, actually, the DCCU) goes back to Marvel and DC trying to monopolize the comics industry thirty years ago by jointly building a vertical monopoly via adopting Diamond as their sole distributors and forcing out competitors, which is also why comics became a niche product sold mainly in specialty stores and the spinning wire racks in supermarkets and drugstores disappeared.

Lovecraft - it's not the tentacles that make his work chilling - but I would have loved to see Guillermo Del Toro's completely bonkers & pulpy $175 million R-rated At the Mountains of Madness adaptation where Tom Cruise & (probably) Ron Perlman fight off killer man-eating albino penguin shoggoths with AK-47s.

I would have loved to see his take on The Hobbit, as well. Not as much as AtMoM and Hellboy 3, but it still would have been a fascinating romp and I hate that we got Petey's try-hard LotR rehash instead.
Also in a perfect world, American studios would have long since embraced animation as a medium for all ages and all story types, not to mention never abandoned hand-drawn to pursue derivative CGI celebrity-voiced animal shit.

I have wanted them to make Prey live action for years because the premise of both the graphic novel and the book are just so excellent the problem with the first AVP movie is it softens its source material and plays it off as corny. Where as in Prey its really serious and R rated and pulls no punches and has us questioning ethics, honour and other issues and it gets the enemy of my enemy is my friend theme ten times better. Anyone who is likes alien vs predator should read both the graphic novel and the book as they are excellent.
