In episode 12, she takes out a Tokyo Gourmet book, but for what reason would she be carrying it around for when I'm sure she didn't know she was going out for dinner? She appeared to be taking it out of her pocket, but it wasn't visible anyway before, I would assume it is too big to fit in her pocket and it just came out of nowhere.

She pulled it out of her school bag.

Given that she's only been there a few weeks, it would absolutely make sense for her to have something like that to bring her up to speed on what there is to do and eat in Tokyo-3. This was of course 1995's vision of 2015. They didn't take into account that nowadays we use smart phones to find everything, including food. If Evangelion had been made today, she would have just whipped out her phone and looked on Yelp instead.

Oh okay, well, either she hid that bag behind her back or it was a continuity error.

It's pretty obvious to me (even from memory) that she was holding a bag.

The remastered version of episode 11 suffers pretty badly from crushed blacks. Hard to believe it was done with any care at all considering how much is lost as a result.

So originally the shades of black were different?
