I've assumed from the start that this would be sanitized of any super juicy cut info. The two examples Literary Eagle has posted seem to be very tame and insignificant and cut for the sake of pacing instead of a deliberate change of plans in the story.

As for BIG BLACK TEXT BLOCK I'm assuming we'll get an unmolested version with the actual Q CRC set. When that's out there'll be no point in heavy-handed blocking.

Welp, refreshing my DHL tracking.

I'm waiting to see if Final brings the release of the Q CRC as well.

I think it's guaranteed we'll get more Eva CRCs eventually. They've shown with the recent Godzilla set that they still very much love the format.

Fuyutsuki's dialogue there carries on a little after that. The full quote is posted here:
君を運んできた複製体は、Mk.09の暫定パイロットとして用意されたアヤナミ型試作体第6号だ。ユイ君の情報は転送されていない ゆえに碇も興味ないようだ。あの複製体はゼーレのプログラムで動いている。我々の関知しないところだ。

Fuyutsuki: The clone that brought you here was the Ayanami type experimental prototype number six, prepared as the provisional pilot of Mark.09. As Yui-kun's information has not been transferred to it, it seems not to interest Ikari. That clone operates according to Seele's program. It is not our concern.

Fascinating! That one bit of dialogue explains so many of the mysteries surrounding Rei Q. In the final cut of the movie, Fuyutsuki says only Yui's data was left behind in the Ayanami series after her experiment. Going by this exchange, he must have meant personality data of some sort.

Mari also called Rei a provisional Seele pilot, but if she wasn't the intended pilot of Mark.09, who was? There isn't anyone else that we've seen. :???:

Thanks, Eagle and Numbers! ^_^
Someday I hope that we'll be reunited if that is what's destined to be. Perhaps we'll discover that elusive bible. And then we will finally be free!

I'm not so clear on what exactly the cut dialogue elucidates, precisely. The final film has Kaworu's comment about Rei Q's soul being somewhere else, and that remains just as mysterious. There is absolutely no need to imply that Rei contains anything but genetic data from Yui, that I can see, so nothing of value lost here, aside from the reveal of which Rei clone this is. (Though even that doesn't make sense in the final film, either, going by the number of heads they have lying around.)

But the point is that the excised words do imply exactly that (because she's a clone, she already has the genetic data, so this must refer to something else). Since those words are gone, they are not canon, and so you can ignore them of course; but it is of interest that another scenario was in their minds at some time, which is as worthy of discussion on those terms as, say, the alternative endings of EoE.

Blue Basilisk was saying that Rei Q made more sense on account of the cut dialogue. I don't think Rei as seen in the films so far makes more sense if she's supposed to be getting uploaded with Yui's personality data, so I was explaining why I disagreed. If the cut dialogue tied into Kaworu's line about Rei Q, then maybe I would lament its absence.

Maybe I'm just overlooking something really obvious, though...

I didn't mean that the possibility of Rei being implanted with leftover YuiOS explained a lot about her. I just remembered Fuyutsuki mentioning that during the conversation with Shinji and realizing those two statements could be linked. Rather, I think the stuff about her being pulled into service just to be Seele's provisional pilot and Gendo/Fuyutsuki not caring about her does a lot to explain why she is the way she is. You could already infer a lot of that from the movie but this spells it out rather plainly.

Wow, I'm thrilled there's been so much discussion on this thread lately! Also, thanks for the translation, Numbers-kun! I still have a hard time reading handwritten Japanese, so I'm glad someone here was able to decipher that part. Even if it turns out that information is no longer canon, it's super interesting to see what kind of ideas were being considered during the pre-production stage. Thanks again!

***NEW POST (March 1, 2017)

I posted my fifty-seventh review today! This time, it's Hiramatsu Tadashi Animation Gashuu. It's a collection of illustrations by Tadashi Hiramatsu, a key animator for the Evangelion TV series and movies. This is a NEW BOOK that just came out a few days ago (although people who went to Comiket in December 2016 were able to get it sooner), so I hope you enjoy the review!

Hiramatsu Tadashi Animation Gashuu wrote: The first image in the book is a fun crossover. It’s a two-page spread of Rei and Pen Pen hanging out with characters from other titles such as Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water, FLCL, and Gurren Lagann.

I would like to have seen that but I guess amazon.co.jp has gotta make some money someday (hah, like hell I'll pay tariffs.)

The illustration being referred to is from an old magazine article: https://yande.re/post/show/120922

It's really nice that we've gotten this artbook, along with two great Yoh Yoshinari ones, and all coming from STYLE. Still wishing for a great, big Takeshi Honda artbook with all the fuckton of Eva art he did.

I posted my fifty-eighth review today! This time,it's Ide Koji no Evangelion Forever. Koji Ide is a musician and radio personality who also happens to be an Eva fan, so in this book he explores the Evangelion TV series and The End of Evangelion with a little help from the voice actors and producer. ^_^

This one seems especially interesting, for two reasons:
First that Asuka won the polls, I kind always assumed she was the least popular in Japan, because of that one quote by Anno in which he said, that Japanese people can't handle strong women.
Second that they are actually talking about End of Evangelion! Background info on that movie is really, really sparse - sadly I cannot read Japanese well enough to justify me buying this book - but I'd really know if the voice actors are sharing any interesting infos on the movie?
So if you find the time, I'd greatly appreciate it, if you shared some intriguing infos! (if there are any, the interviews could be kept rather superficial, after all)

Heh, for some reason I was under the impression that you read Japanese better than I do. I still need a dictionary for a lot of kanji. -o-;

The interviews in this book are multi-page walls of text that I don't feel confident tackling until my Japanese reading skills are better, however I checked the Japanese Wikipedia page for The End of Evangelion just now, and yeah this book is cited as a source. ^_^

Oh, ok. Thank you for taking the time to answer my request! :) If the book is cited on the Japanese wiki, chances are, the info has already dripped into English.
How many Evangelion-related books do you own at this point?

シンジ役の緒方恵美は、第26話のラストシーンにおけるシンジのアスカへの首絞めは、庵野の知人女性の体験談がモデルであると発言している
and
are statements on the Wiki that source the book. Unfortunately, my Japanese is far to bad to correctly translate them.

My translator translates this as this.

Emi Ogata who is Shinji 's role in Shinji' s last scene in the 26th episode said that the experience story of an acquaintance woman of Anno is a model

And

Shinji that was sent out to EVA's first machine in the 25th story was planned to be a dialogue to mute "I did not come after all ...", but Emi Ogata "Shinji," said, "Both Misato and Asuka "Although I was fighting hard, I guess it would not be," he said to Anno and he changed the line to the result, "Because I can not get on Eva, I can not do anything".

Please note S3 google translate isn't always perfect when it comes to Japanese.

I figure I can do better than a robot, so here's a quick stab at the Wiki blurbs.

(A) Shinji's VA Megumi Ogata said that Shinji's strangling of Asuka (in the last scene of episode 26') is modeled on a personal anecdote of a female acquaintance of Anno's.

(B) In episode 25', there were plans to make Shinji, having been sent to Eva Unit 01's location, mutter the line, "I knew I shouldn't have come...". However, Shinji's VA Megumi Ogata said to Anno, "Aren't Misato, Asuka and everyone else doing their best to fight, even though they don't have a chance?" As a result, the line was changed to, "But I can't pilot Eva. There's nothing I can do."

I wouldn't mind knowing more of the context for the former especially. Thanks for letting me know this book exists, LE! I'll have to pick it up one day.
