For bonus points, only include songs that a Japanese boy such as Shinji would be likely to know about without stretching suspension of disbelief.

Also, I doubt a young Japanese boy would nessisary know these songs, but whatevs

DarkBluePhoenix wrote:I finally finished Shinji's SDAT Track Listing for my fanfic. Please note Tracks 25 and 26, as being not only an EVAbridged reference, but also the perfect choice. I tried to keep the list as angsty as possible with music from my own collection. However, the tracks that have the “*” are courtesy of silvermoonlight, who gave me a few suggestions as I was coming up blank, so credit where credit is due, and a very large thank you to her as well for the help ^_^

It's listed out as song, Artist, “Album Title” (Year)
Track 01: The Music Or The Misery, Fall Out Boy, “From Under the Cork Tree” (2005)
Track 02: Points of Authority, Linkin Park, “Hybrid Theory” (2000)

Track 05: Thanks For The Memories, Fall Out Boy, “Infinity on High” (2007)
Track 06: Higher, Creed, “Human Clay” (1999)
Track 07: Wherever You Will Go, The Calling, “Camino Palmero” (2001)
Track 08: Closing Time, Semisonic “Feeling Strangely Fine” (1998)
Track 09: Look Away, Big Country, “The Seer” (1986)*
Track 10: Sugar, We're Going Down, Fall Out Boy, “From Under the Cork Tree” (2005)
Track 11: Wake Me Up When September Ends, Green Day, “American Idiot” (2005)
Track 12: Can’t Take It, The All–American Rejects “Move Along” (2005)
Track 13: Mouth, Bush, “Deconstructed” (1997)*
Track 14: Pushing Me Away, Linkin Park, “Hybrid Theory” (2000)
Track 15: The Boys of Summer, The Ataris, “So Long, Astoria” (2003)
Track 16: Cry Little Sister, Gerard McMahon, “The Lost Boys” (1987)*
Track 17: The Great Escape, Boys Like Girls, “Boys Like Girls” (2007)
Track 18: Hero/Heroine, Boys Like Girls, “Boys Like Girls” (2007)
Track 19: Good Riddance (Time of Your Life), Green Day, “Nimrod” (1997)
Track 20: Money for Noting, Dire Straits, “Brothers in Arms” (1985)*
Track 21: A Place For My Head, Linkin Park, “Hybrid Theory” (2000)
Track 22: Numb, Linkin Park, “Meteora” (2003)
Track 23: It Ends Tonight, The All–American Rejects “Move Along” (2005)
Track 24: Army Dreamers, Kate Bush, “Never For Ever” (1980)*
Track 25: Crawling, Linkin Park, “Hybrid Theory” (2000)
Track 26: Runaway, Linkin Park, “Hybrid Theory” (2000)
Track 27: The Road to Hell, Chris Rea, “The Road to Hell” (1989)*
Track 28: In The End, Linkin Park, “Hybrid Theory” (2000)
    Track 29: -BLANK-
    Track 30: -BLANK-

Some of the songs are left over form Gendo, namely all the tracks from before 2000, but Shinji kept them as he liked them, and he felt connected to his parents through the music. These and how he edited the tape will be coming up in Chapter 11 of Episode III, so for now please, listen and enjoy. All songs can be found on youtube

Thinking about it more, so many Radiohead songs can be applied the series itself...thinking about the End of Eva ending with Motion Picture Soundtrack...

If we want to go for the obvious, just slap Creep onto the playlist.

And how about some metal in the mix?

Bloody Kisses - Type O Negative
Symbolic - Death
And having Raining Blood by Slayer in his head during Instrumentality.

What was the name of the artist that Shinji was listening to in girlfriend of Steel? I watched a playthrough of the game and Asuka got mad and smashed his SDAT. To which he said something along the lines of.

"NOOOOO! My __________!"

What was the name of the artist he said?

From Celldweller's album (that is thematically associated with extraterrestrials to boot) we have two songs

"It Makes No Difference Who We Are"

LYRICS  SPOILER: Show
I am still here waiting
I'm anticipating
While they are orchestrating
To grant the wish that I am making

No price to great, no distance too far
If I can wish upon a Blackstar
It makes no difference where they are
They'll grant my wish upon a Blackstar

We are all here waiting
We're anticipating
While they are orchestrating
To grant the wishes we are making

It makes no difference who we are
It makes no difference who we are

No price too great, no distance too far
If we could wish upon a Blackstar
It makes no difference who we are
When we have wished upon a Blackstar
When we have wished upon a Blackstar
They'll grant our wish upon a Blackstar

And then it phases into this one as a direct continuation

"Blackstar"

LYRICS  SPOILER: Show
You must have wished on it
Because I saw them riding in on a Blackstar
They’d rather chew than spit
And they’re full of piss and vinegar

There’s no way to persuade them to give up their crusade
They’ve come to grant the wish you should have never made
Sing Hallelujah because you can’t change anything

They’ll let you try
To reverse everything
Don’t waste your time
Sing Hallelujah because you can’t change anything

They move without a sound
And their eyes will paralyze who gaze into
They’ll leave you gagged and bound
To the whip of the wish they’ve granted you

Looks like they’re over it
I saw them riding off on a Blackstar
With nothing left to chew, they split
Because it makes no difference who you are

After reading lyrics to both it uncannily reminds me of Ha into Q.

Or maybe I'm just delusional as seems to be opinion about me here :P

This song is currently probably more associated in terms of popular media today with a kids' movie about a green ogre (Or occasional holiday carols), but listening to the lyrics and with this rendition in particular:

Leonard Cohen - Hallelujah
Rendition by Kate Voegele

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sDJgxE-0PZI

SPOILER: Show
Well I heard there was a secret chord
That David played and it pleased the Lord
But you don't really care for music, do you?
Well it goes like this: the fourth, the fifth
The minor fall and the major lift
The baffled king composing Hallelujah

Hallelujah [x4]

Your faith was strong but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew you
She tied you to her kitchen chair
She broke your throne and she cut your hair
And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah

Hallelujah [x4]

Baby I've been here before
I've seen this room and I've walked this floor (you know)
I used to live alone before I knew you
And I've seen your flag on the marble arch
And love is not a victory march
It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah

Hallelujah [x4]

There was a time when you let me know
What's really going on below
But now you never show that to me, do you?
But remember when I moved in you
And the holy dove was moving too
And every breath we drew was Hallelujah

Hallelujah [x4]

Maybe there's a God above
All I've ever learned from love
Was how to shoot somebody who outdrew you
And it's not a cry that you hear at night
It's not somebody who's seen the light
It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah

Hallelujah [x13]

It seems to fit in quite well with the overall "emotionally drained" vibe that tends to linger in the immediate aftermath of Third Impact.

IIRC he says something along the lines of "My...My Walkman..." and doesn't make reference to any particular song/band.

That scene was just cruel, and further cements my opinion that Girlfriend of Steel is the most hilariously awful "official" thing Evangelion has ever shat out.

A song that fit Shinji and Rei

It's been awhile...

While listening to this song here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N5heBwvVbfI) and reading the lyrics, Shinji and Rei popped into my mind as I think the lyrics fit them well. It pretty much describes them during NGE series events given their motives and mindset while piloting the units. There are parts which describes more Rei than Shinji given her standard attitude towards piloting the Eva.

P.S.: Yes, I'm a metalhead.

P.S.(2): I don't know/remember if there's a topic discussing main themes for the characters.
I've got nothing better to do, so I have registered myself here!

Shinji: "I'm just a poor boy. Nobody loves me."

Bridge Bunnies: "HE'S JUST A POOR BOY FROM A POOR FAMILY. SPARE HIM HIS LIFE FROM THIS MONSTROSITY."
Among the people who use the Internet, many are obtuse. Because they are locked in their rooms, they hang on to that vision which is spreading across the world. But this does not go beyond mere ‘data’. Data without analysis [thinking], which makes you think that you know everything. This complacency is nothing but a trap. Moreover, the sense of values that counters this notion is paralyzed by it.

And so we arrive at demagogy. - Hideaki Anno, 1996
