Ghost in the Shell? More like Ghost in the Meh.

But this brings up the question - am I talking about the 1995 original? The 2017 remake? Or both?

Went to the theaters to see Kong: Skull Island. I had quite high expectations solely with the sunset poster, which reminds of that Eva 03 scene of Ep18. Besides of that, it was only partly of the director's statement that Kong was partly influenced by EVA :shifty:

Turned out it was a really good action movie. the visuals are really gorgeous with the most huge point is the military equipment scene. My main gripe here is the EVA references aren't explicit except for

Fudoh: The New Generation (1996)

My new favorite Takashi Miike film which I can certainly watch repeatedly because even though it does have it's moments of wanton violence, it's somewhat tamer than later productions like Audition and Ichi the Killer.

Went to the cineplex, asked friends online what I should watch. They mostly asked for Logan and Power Rangers...

Watched Kong instead, partly because I am a sucker now for 60's rock music.

Funny to find Loki and Nick Fury on the same page.

I watched Logan twice and subsequently wept leaving the theater, in the car home and once I got home (the first viewing).
Also found Pootie Tang and Dog Soldiers on DVD/BD, both classics.

Just went to see Logan... damn I cried at the ending... so sad. Actually I haven't cried in a movie theater since seeing Star Trek: Nemesis where Data dies at the end. But overall the movie was fantastic, great effects and story and all that.

Also planning on seeing Kong: Skull Island this weekend for my birthday.

What did you think of Nemesis overall?
Very underrated film in the franchise IMO.

It is underrated, and even though there were some character missteps, it was still a great movie. Evil young clone, particles that dissolve people into dust, a pretty epic space battle, the wedding scene was pretty great, oh and the best part -
ramming into another ship to stop them from shooting you, pretty badass. Also, even though the ending was slightly heartbreaking, still was a great way to end to movie series for TNG.

Also, first trek movie I saw in theaters at 10. Also, damn, that movie is 15 years old already.

Nemesis was the first Trek movie I saw in theaters.

At the time, I remember thinking that the ships crashing into each other was cool and that the Riker/Troi sex scene turned mindrape was unbearably awkward.

Now, that film falls into the same trap that all TNG Goldman that aren't Generations or First Contact fall into:

I can't watch them for more than 5 minutes without wanting to cringe myself into a ball so dense I turn into a black hole.

There are innumerable problems with those movies and I don't feel the burning desire to spend the next 20 minutes detailing them all here. Suffice it to say that I agree with the majority of the arguments that Mike Stoklasa makes against those films. Though, I'm not beholden to his opinions, as I enjoy First Contact and Generations holds a special place in my heart for being the very first Trek film I ever saw. Plus, I had very meh-to-negative feelings towards Nemesis years before I watched his review.
Among the people who use the Internet, many are obtuse. Because they are locked in their rooms, they hang on to that vision which is spreading across the world. But this does not go beyond mere ‘data’. Data without analysis [thinking], which makes you think that you know everything. This complacency is nothing but a trap. Moreover, the sense of values that counters this notion is paralyzed by it.

Guy makes some good points. And holy hell, I had no idea Star Trek IV made that much. It was always my favorite of the Trek films, but it seems everyone else felt the same way!

IV is the film that easily has the most mainstream appeal of all the entries featuring the original cast. It's a fish-out-of-water time travel comedy with no antagonist that gives pretty much every character a moment to shine, which is rare for a Star Trek film.

It's just a plain fun movie, and one that can be enjoyed by someone who only has a passing familiarity with Star Trek.

I remember watching this at home with one of my brothers and he spent the whole movie tearing through all the inconsistancies in terms of plot, technology, etc... and it made sense. It was both the most horrible and beautiful thing I had ever witnessed. I particularly remember his criticism of your favorite scene DarkBluePhoneix.

Come to think of it, I've never seen Star Trek IV from beginning to end.

6 is my fav, may slightly be because of nostalgia as it was my introduction as a kid, but I just love the mystery and handling of the political elements.
Chang was a great villain. Plus the battle with the unwaveringly cloaked Bird of Prey at the end is among the best space battles of the franchise, how it was edited into the attempted assassination was really well done.

Generations I feel is slightly underrated (mainly just because I think Soran was a good villain & I didn't find Kirk's death offensive) but Nemesis is better IMO.
First Class is good but the earthbound part of it was never appealing to me personally so It's not one of my favorites.

Watched Kubo and the Two Strings with my parents. Pretty good film, feel I can comfortably recommend this to anyone.

... Although it does remind me that I've still to see Laika's adaptation of Coraline, and given that I'm a fan of that I imagine I'll track that down one day soon.

Night Of The Lepus:

It's one thing to make a movie where the monster is an unstoppable force of nature. It's another to make those unstoppable forces of nature rabbits. I'm sorry, bu a bunny licking fake ketchup blood isn't scary, it's adorable. and makes the whole movie impossible to take seriously. It's likely that the actors didn't even know the movie was about the monsters being rabbits until towards the end of the production. Because the actors play the whole thing straight.

It's like someone spliced two different movies together. On one side, a serious honest to god 1970's monster movie. The other movie an adorable commercial. Seeing the rabbits frolic in tiny models is just impossible to take seriously.
